That whole final scene is one of my favorites of the entire series. The final boss soundtrack that plays with that chorus in the background singing "Sousou..." while everyone prepares their weapons while Clone Frieren floating in the middle has the most calm/threatening look I have ever seen.

Close. It actually links back to the flashback in Ep 6, where Frieren gets that spell to make shaved ice. The spell said it was a mimic, but it had that grimoire. Frankly, it doesn't even matter. Frieren can check all the chests she wants because the mimics really aren't any kind of threat to her, anyway.

I like how that Fern and Sense Convo links to other earlier episodes: to the sunrise episode when Frieren realizes why Himmel wanted her to be present; or to her flashback when Eisen asked her if she would take a companion along and on her travels, her reply, and his words about what a relationship is not supposed to be about... and we see that in Fern's perspective of an essential facet to relationships, on the simple sharing in the joys of others, something that Frieren took too long to realize.

Denken's reaction made it even more solid too. The fact that he wouldn't even bother dealing with that if this wasn't a exam is just scary. The 1000+ year old elf mage that killed more demons than anyone in history. The mage that reverse engineered Zoltraak into demon killing magic. The mage that is a member of the hero's party that slain the demon king. The student of the Great Mage Flamme. Yeah, I dont care who you are in that story. If you're born in an era where Frieren still lives, there little to no chance you're beating even a replica of her at all.
I love watching your videos because your attitudes to this series exactly match my own. I'm an old bloke and this is the best series (not just anime)that I have ever seen on TV. Not a single weak episode, not a single weak character. I'm obsessed.

Idk why I just realized this, but Fern saying she keeps doing what she's doing because it makes Frieren smile parallels back to episode 4 when Frieren does something she probably wouldn't enjoy herself, but seeing Fern smile at the sunrise made Frieren also enjoy it.
This observation is not really connected to this episode in particular, but it’s just occurred to me we’ve never heard Fern speak about her parents at all, which seems strange to me in retrospect. Since Heiter convinced her to continue living in order to carry their memory forward.
I like the parallels between Fern and Frieren that come up in this one. They both finished something and they are both looking for what comes next. At the seaside town, Frieren is happy because Fern is happy. With the pile of junk, Fern is happy because Frieren is happy. This is actually my definition of love. When you are willing to do something solely because it will make someone happy, then that is love.

I could say, most talented people will someday learn to this experience.. but its better to say. when like Fern, that they found there a way to feel passion again. The only difference between Frieren and the replica is more, that the Replica will don't show mercy.
The test is pacifist to the extent that they do not have to fight each other: then it still remains a test for a first-class magician's exam, so a rate of difficulty must be there.
Putting aside jokes and memes, Frieren doesn't fall for mimics. She chooses to take the risk when it's safe to do so (ie, outside of battle situations) because she doesn't lose anything of value (and because the mimic-check spell is only 99% accurate). Specifically, she loses a little time while in the mimic and then later when fixing her hair (but she doesn't care about that because she has practically infinite time), and suffers a little reputation damage (but she doesn't care about how others view her all that much). On the other hand, she may gain something (eg, maybe the shaved-ice spell shown in the flashback in S01E06). In summary, she loses nothing and may gain something so why not try them all?

Frieren is already in their TV time list of their favorite shows of all time along with AOT, Vinland, Breaking Bad and BCS etc.. HxH isn’t on the list. That tells you everything.

HxH Is always the underdog in that kinda regard. But at the end of the day, shows come and go, but we all remember HxH fondly. Frieren Is MASSIVELY goated so far however. Hope it continues like this all the way to the end.

Actually Frieren manga have some extra chapters - in one of them, Frieren together with Himmel and co, find very unic spell in such chest
