Back in the day me and my little sister simply called this song "The Stomp Song!! " Every time it came on the radio we would just go crazy! Oh take me back to those good old groovy days please!!!! LOL
I used to go to this night club in Paris for the last two years before COVID happened. Always first to be down on the floor, this track was always blasting when the DJ was ready to start the party, god those were good nights
This reminds me of my first ride in a Corvette. The driver looked just like one of the Brothers Johnson. We were coming from the nightclub where he played saxophone in a band here in NYC. Those were some awesome times back then🎉
A great funky track from The Brothers Johnson! This was a featured track on "American Top 40 - The '80s" (from April 26th, 1980), & was the #24 song. Bravo, The Brothers Johnson!
Gosh, I miss the Brother's Johnson! I am so happy to have found them here! Thier music was so Tight- perfect at the roller rink and Disco. Now, 45 years later, and spine boken 4 times I just have the nostalgia.
this still sounds as good as it was back in the 70s. it just makes you wanna get up and dance. always makes me happy to here this. wished they played this more on the radio
I could never sit still when that song came on. And it must have affected everybody else the same way, cuz the DJ would start that song and in an instant the dance floor would be packed!!
On this date in 1980 {Mar. 15th} "Stomp!" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it would peaked at #7 and spent 19 weeks in the Top 100. Ranked 63rd on the Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1980 chart... Reached #1 on the Billboard R&B chart, #1 {for 6 weeks} on the New Zealand Singles chart, and #6 on the U.K. Singles chart... Featured in the 2008 movie "Yes Man"...
I forgot how much I love this song and can't believe I've not known the lyrics all this time. Always thought it was "we're gonna stop all night, in the name of the" lol. Yeah youtube rocks, well done
In 1982, this was my introduction to the world of funk music! I was 8 years old and went to the library with my mom. I checked out the album Light Up The Night LP- YES boys and girls- Record/vinyl! AWESOME!!
I have been listening to these guy's since 1980's and reminds my youth oh my god the time has gone so quick and still listening in Lahore..............Pakistan from time to time. Brothers got amazing voice and fanatastic song..........................keep it up.
What an awesome funky song, takes me back in time, to when music and people were awesome, enjoying the dance in night clubs every where in the USA! So sad when compared to what happened in Las Vegas today, my prayers go out to all the families who lost their loved ones in this worst mass shooting in USA history, What a shame, what a tragedy, America needs to return to its former days of glory and peace!!!!
Re: description Why would anyone be tired of these vids w/lyrics?? I remember this song, and even until now, I had trouble understanding some of the lyrics. If anything, we should be thanking you for continuing to do this!
c'mon now - leave the insecurity for others - this stuff is so hard to find these days and it's not like vinyl is repairable cheaply!.. keep em comin I say, lyrics 'n' all
I just don't get it! Songs like this give me a sensation. No song released today makes me feel like this. It's almost like being in a dark dungeon then walking into a well lit room, with people dancing and celebrating. It's refreshing! =D
in my country, when we use to sing dis song,we use to say "stomp all night,in the name of love don't you feel alright" lookin at the lyrics now i realize they were saying "in the neighborhood".I still think in the name of love sounds better.
Great song, and thanks for the lyrics. Loved this as a young teenager, "back in the day." And, I never noticed it before, but the ... uh ... cover art here is just a little ... uh ... suggestive of a message these guys might not have wanted to convey. Just guessing. Still though, awesome song!
i remeber this song it was a jam- i was in 6th grade- we didn'y classify it as disco though it seemed on a different level then some of the instrumentation was similar but different sorta like MJ'S off the wall more party themed than disco..
Quincy Jones production was amazing!
