Although I was born in the 1960's I would go back to the 80's in a heartbeat if i could, it was by far the best decade ever for music and fashion, i had some of the best times of my entire life during the 80's and I've got some absolutely wonderful memories, lots of love from Carol in Nottingham UK xx ❤
I still have this single. Love it as much now as I did then. Amazing song and the girls were so talented. I was born in 1970 and going to primary at that time meant everyone took a skipping rope and someone always had a big rope so we could play skipping games at playtime. I still remember the skipping songs we sang. No wonder we were all so fit and slim. Xx Happy memories ❤❤
When you see all of these jump rope videos on the Internet today, just remember that was being done back in the 1980s. Just look at these young ladies back in the day!!
Came here following the chain of Whip-Smart by Liz Phair. This is a brilliant piece from the now-dead era when we sought to embrace what unites us versus what separates us.
The skill shown by these girls is absolutely amazing, I've watched and enjoyed the video many times. Thanks to Malcolm for bringing them to everyone's attention, never seen them featured anywhere else.
Wetten dass was a great show. I lived in Germany in the 90s and I remember watching it when they had blindfolded stamp enthusiasts guessing (correctly!) the country from tasting the glue on the backs of the stamps.
This was the second time I heard Afro riddims (the first time was 'Tantalize' by Jimmy The Hoover, also from the same year - '83). Can't skip for all the coffee in Kenya though......
This is unreal, so talented. should be taught as a history lesson, get all the kids off their phones and out of the fake reality imposed on them by the enemies of fun
I know I have seen this video before, but I never really noticed what was going on in it. I cannot imagine the amount of time it took for them to learn to do what they were doing. I wish I had the willpower to learn to do something like that. Sadly i feel my bones are a little too old now.
There is a longer version about filming this video… Worth hunting down ❤️ Since I’m terrible at figuring out lyrics anyway… I’m glad I finally found out that it was: Ebo, Ebo, Ebonettes ❤😂❤
OO MAMA OVER SCHOOL HIGH GIRLS DO BAR BAR WE CAN FALL DOUBLE DUTCH DODO YOU CAN DO THE DOUBLE DUTCH DANCEDANCE SEE YOU CAN DO THE DOUBLE DUTCH DANCE SEE YOU CAN DO DOUBLE DUTCH DANCE DANCE SEE
I STILL can't figure as to why there is not a World Championship for this ( Double Dutching ) . Or even an Olympic sport. After all ~ BMX, skateboarding & scooters are 'official' sports now ...... !! 🤔🤔 🤨 🤬
Thanks for mentioning this. I never knew just listened to The Boyoyo Boys yes this is a rip off. But someone left a comment saying that they sued him and he paid them out of court. But still kept his name as songwriter. He's a disgrace.
Can't even imagine the stench of rancid body odor in that gym at the time of the filming of this thoroughly stupid song. And to think he created and managed the Sex Pistols! Times were tough during the Thatcher dictatorship.

Same here, a teenager in the 80's, what a time to be alive, and the summers went on for ever, i was born in 1967
Great stuff CAROL x

I love to see this. I have the hand/eye coordination of the average grizzly bear and could never dream of doing this!
Awesome tune , i bet no one now can do what they did or even come close, unless its a computer game
Great childhood memories right here!!!

This song makes me feel like I'm counting an extreme amount of money.
The timing, the co-ordination, the energy, the talent - and not to mention the music!

Been 14 yrs old when I saw this the first time. German TV show called "Wetten Dass...". Absolutely impressing 😊👍

They musta used a protestant church choir for the chorus. Sounds heavenly.
It's strange that all those girls are in their 50s now and Malcolm has passed on x
Makes me remember 1983, going into high school.
I was a year from leaving Secondary School ✌️
A Classic from my yonger days see a kid in uk trying that now love to try lol
Wolf of Wallstreet, great selection of music. Positive vibe. Thanks for posting.

Just played now on the BBC 2 by Trevor Horn

🌷 🌷 🌷 ................ Fucking hell I love this song .............🌷 🌷 🌷
I’m guessing Paul Simon heard this song in 1983 and went hmmmmmmmm 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️
My thoughts too
Yup
As this wasn't a hit in the US, I'd say it's doubtful TBH
He definitely did...it inspired a lot of the tracks from Graceland...
You can call me Al 😂
amazing crazy video i watch it in awe how do they do that
With two ropes ha ha ha ha ha ha ah ah not one !!!!!
Saugeiles Lied ever für die Ewigkeit
Great memories! Are the ladies skipping the same ones singing? Incredible talent and coordination! Happy days back then, thank you for posting.
Burnley football club fans sing the ' um ba ba' bit on the terraces whilst bouncing up n down together.
love this song
Brilliant......... Eminem eat your heart out .

Double Dutch
Would love to know if they can still do this, considering it's been 32 years... :-O
I very much doubt it. It is called "Getting old"
Watch me. I can both skip and jump backwards through hoops whilst fully managing a three ring circus. SO BEAT THAT!
Ah the 80s high schoolin n break dancing or trying too😂
I hate racism .love this its the total

That's not my name by the Ting Tings brought me here
This is brilliant boxing training....footwork...
Presumably they were called the "Ebonettes" because they were an all-black troupe ?
You really had to ask that ffs 🤣😂🤣. 👽
Adapted from a traditional Sotho song
Would love to know how the girls lives panned out .

And who did they take the melody from?
Ham n boiled eggs!!
I STILL can't figure as to why there is not a World Championship for this ( Double Dutching ) .
Or even an Olympic sport.
After all ~ BMX, skateboarding & scooters are 'official' sports now ...... !! 🤔🤔 🤨 🤬
McLaren was a bit of a dick, but this is still an amazing record, and a superb video.
Yeah, he was a bit of a chancer I believe, ole Talcy Malcy 😊
Where are they now?
whats Malcolm McLaren doing now ppl
He died in 2010, 64 years old.....
reailly no way thats bad
Not much, he's dead !
Were the Ebonettes a real troupe?
+Terry Mastriantonio Yes, from NYC.
This song brings back happy memories of playing this in the garden of my first house in London E13..Love it.😎
Yes
Just because…
totsies
But!!!! Is that Jason Statham????!!!!!!!🤔
If just one of them misses a single step, the whole troupe goes arse over tit....Not to be mean, but that would be quite funny, actually >:D
He ripped off The Boyoyo Boys' 'Puleng"
Thanks for mentioning this. I never knew just listened to The Boyoyo Boys yes this is a rip off. But someone left a comment saying that they sued him and he paid them out of court. But still kept his name as songwriter. He's a disgrace.
