It is wild how much freedom that kid's parents allowed him to have on the internet. He put his entire family in danger pulling a scam like that, and the whole thing could have been avoided with better parenting. There are too many violent people out there that do not care if the person who wronged them is a kid.
As a parent of two elementary aged kids, I live in an apartment building with 6 or 7 other families who's kids are around the same ages as my own. I don't know if you would be surprised or not, but we are literally the only ones who monitor what our kids watch, educated them on what brain rot videos are any why they shouldn't watch it, and not to have a social media account until they are in high school. They hated me and my husband a few times (They wanted to be youtubers, and have tiktok until they found out about the pdfl problem). None of the parents in my area are doing it because of the "working parent culture". If both parent work full time they are too tired to be on their toes... at least that is what they told me. I know it is not am excuse, but they gave me a reason.
You really think his parents are going to let him keep the money? Not to mention the HUGE tax he has to pay on it for being a child, You think his parents are filing his tax returns? haha there is no world where his parents let him keep the money, They either take it from him and teach him a lesson to not do it again, or they take it from him and spend it themselves cos they are bad people, Also the people he scammed apparently stole his dog, doxxed his school and home address, Your actions online have consequences in real life...

The name Quant is hilarious. In The Big Short Ryan Goslings character says have you met My Quant referring to his Asian employee. Makes a couple Asian jokes and said he's my Quantive something and it's a hilarious scene.
I just watched that scene again yesterday on a whim, strange timing. The funniest parts of that scene are when Ryan Gosling just goes "That's right." completely casually.
It's interesting how the focus from others about the kid tends to be on the initial "rug pull" while lesser attention is given to the subsequent two incidents. In total, he made either $50,000 or $60,000 from those later actions. The first incident netted him $30,000, while the second, known as the "I'm Sorry Coin," brought in about $10,000. The details of the third one escape me, but it was worth either $10,000 or $20,000.
The youtube shorts gun videos really are the craziest. I've seen one of a guy showing off his "ghost" switch. Which was a switch on a glock, but it was grinded down to look like a regular back plate. Lol There's a sea of videos where they just show off how many switches they have.
Could go either way for this kid. I cant see him ever wanting to get a normal job to earn a normal wage after seeing how easy it can be to make bank. As a parent I would be proud and ashamed at the same time.
It’s interesting to see the TH-cam thumbnail testing at work. When I first saw this video on my feed the thumbnail was different than it was when I clicked on it this time. I couldn’t watch it earlier so I came back to it now. This makes me think those analytics aren’t too accurate, not at first anyway because based on my activity, it will report me as a viewer with a particular thumbnail when in reality it didn’t matter because I was going to watch it when I had the time anyway.
Loool I remember learning about these! Called meme coins. I didn’t understand the point of it. I realize now I narrowly avoided being scammed, the guy was a rando in a discord groupchat and he tried to explain it to me “yes but you can own the actual file so it’s yours” and in my mind I can just take a screenshot so I passed on it. Currently there is a huge scam in the art community cuz I guess this one artist will only send ss and not files of the art she commissions
... Are you a child or just computer illiterate? There is nothing technically different about having a screenshot of a picture on a computer or the original picture. The quality is entirely dependent on the file type which could be just as high depending on the format of the screenshot. It only makes a difference in the sense if you wanted like an original Photoshop file with all the different layers for some reason.
