I bought the 2017 ZL1 w/ the 10-speed (first model of this generation) new, when it came out. It also had the 50th Anniversary badging as well. Truly an awesome, spectacular all-around sports car. It was loaded with nearly every option. I have since sold it, but enjoyed every mile I drove it. What an amazing machine...
As someone who had an SS for a few years, I can't imagine trying to keep this car under control on public streets. The SS was actually fighting me to stay anywhere near the speed limits as it just wanted to GO. I know this model is on a whole 'nother level from that one. To really push this car, a private track needs to be in the equation somewhere.
Love my 20 ZL1, cross country trips, most of the big name drivers roads here in the US, plus a bunch of track time, handles everything no sweat and can really do everything. Almost traded for an M3CX but couldn’t bring myself to let it go, it’s just too much fun and sounds so good.
@@opred3394 yes if you can find one that’s been taken care of properly. I drive mine hard but I also spend the $$$ and take the time to make sure it’ll survive. In the Chevy family it’s better than the C7 used for used because you’re not constantly worried about overheating.
The rear seats are not meant to actually be sat it.. they are only there for insurance purposes. If it's a four seater it gets better rates than a 2 seater so more people can afford to drive it and GM can sell more of them. They were never made to be useful for passenger purposes. If you want room for passengers buy a charger, or challenger.
This hasn't been true for 50 years or more. I'm not an actuary, you aren't either, but my understanding is that rates are based on zip code, age, and vehicle. Vehicle doesn't care if it's 2 or 4 doors, it cares how many crashes and payouts that particular vehicle has been involved with. The number of seats has zero actuarial value
As the guy above said, if this was ever true, it isn't anymore. A similarly priced or spec'd corvette will be the same price or cheaper to insure because of the older demographic that most often drives them, regardless of the number of seats.
Curly/Kurly knocked his ZL1 Build out of the park. Yeah if you want a sunroof on the ZL1 1LE you can't get the Aero Kit, which should be an option. Come on Chevy. Some people like me have to have a Sunroof/open air experience with some sunlight rather than just a dark interior. Great Job😀👍👍👍
Why would you want to add weight to a 1LE? It's roughly 60 lbs less than the standard ZL1. That's the logic behind the no sunroof option for the ZL1 1LE....
@@Mac7504-OG it's would be just for fun and the looks not for the all out best track time regardless of the weight penalty. As I said it should be an option from Chevy for the people who want the convenience of a sunroof and the bad arse look of the 1LE Aero Package

While I think we can all understand the black wing and the M5 competition are very fast, they are still family sedans versus somebody who wants to own a sports car
IMO, absolutely ZERO point in doing upshifts yourself if you are only looking for straightline speed. They will 100% be slower every single time versus the 10-speed doing it. The 10-speed basically does staged upshifts. If it knows your WOT and near redline it will pre-engaging the next gear allowing for shifts quicker than a PDK!
Ehhhhh, if you wan the 1LE look then get a 1LE. I get the idea of having the more daily drivable regular ZL1. But it's like taking a Z06 vette and trying to make it look like a ZR1. Just not the same.
Miles, now you have to find a standard ZL1 (non-1LE) with a *manual* for a truly fair comparison. Now forgive me for saying this and with all due respect to Curly, but the fact that someone would actually consider a car like this Camaro ZL1 with an automatic is sacrilege IMHO. However, personal preference aside, I can and do understand why someone may choose the 10-speed auto over the 6-speed manual. To each their own. Whenever there is the option of a manual transmission in a muscle, sports, super or hypercar. Then the choice is (should be) obvious with very few exceptions to the rule. [Raises an eyebrow and glares intensely towards BMW M cars. If you know - you know.] As far as competitors. Well that is a bit of a dilemma. Are we basing it off of price, platform, category, drivetrain layout or perhaps the philosophy of use? There is a lot of overlap in that Venn diagram. Price is obvious with the contenders you have already mentioned. All of which are at or below the cost of a standard ZL1. However, the platform is interchangeable with the Cadillac CT4-V _and_ CT5-V Blackwing's. The 4VB is obviously the more affordable version with a V6. Whereas the 5VB is the _direct_ successor to the ZL1. Of course, both of those models are still available with a glorious manual transmission. Meanwhile, the drivetrain layout is similar to that of the Jaguar F-Type (you may remember me referring to it as the "Gentleman's GT" car) and the Mercedes AMG GT. Both of whom being a front engine RWD V8. Albeit, the cost of these two models is significantly higher than all of the aforementioned options. Categorically speaking, they are all similar to each other which is where you would factor-in the other parameters such as pricing and philosophy of use. You get my point. Nevertheless, I still thoroughly enjoyed this review, Miles! I hope to see a final review of the standard ZL1 with a six speed manual in the foreseeable future. As always... Stay classy my friend. [Side note - For those unfamiliar and to avoid any further confusion, all that Carbon Fiber trim throughout the interior is _not_ stock from the factory. Everything you see in Carbon Fiber is aftermarket. That should be a notable distinction.]
