THE EXPANSE
Two hundred years in the future, in a fully colonized solar system, police detective Josephus Miller is given the assignment to find a missing young woman, Julie Mao. Joining his task is James Holden, former first officer of an ice freighter who is involved in an incident caused by the tense relationship between Earth, Mars and the Belt. Far from their struggles in space, United Nations executive Chrisjen Avasarala works to prevent war between Earth and Mars. Soon the three find out that the missing woman is connected to a vast conspiracy that threatens all humanity.
Episode 1 'Dulcinea'
In the outer solar system near Saturn, James Holden and the crew of the ice freighter Canterbury investigate a distress call from a mysterious derelict ship, the Scopuli. On Ceres Station, Detective Miller begins an off-the-books investigation of a missing heiress, Julie Mao.

Some things you should know about this:
First, I would love if Dharma reacted to it as well!
Second, This is considered the best Syfy show on TV today.
Third, it's based on an amazing Novel series by James SA Corey.
Fourth, it introduces a creole language called belter (referring to the citizens of the belt) so expect the fanbase to use it in the comments.
Fifth, The Expanse has an amazing fanbase that are very welcoming and appreciate almost anyone who takes an interest in it because we appreciate its value in our life.
Sixth, as it's the custom, The fanbase of the show despise spoilers and that's a good thing since they will keep it away from new viewers.
so Enjoy the show and don't forget that the show gives you a great story, but if you become a hardcore fan during the process of watching it, I recommend that you read the books or listen to them on audio, they're soooooooooo worth it, I'm currently in book 5 of the series and it's well, literally... EPIC!

Well well said! I'm a massive Expanse fan. I've only watched the show, albeit I've seen all 4 seasons 4 times and can't wait for season 5! I've thought about buying the books. I'm old school so I want actual books. Been leaning on getting them.
@@jamesholland5761 Book depository or Amazon are great sources if you're looking to buy them online. I just don't like reading because I get sleepy and drop the book right after, with Audio I can go through tens of novels every month hhhhh to each his own I guess.

This show will leave you guessing, sometimes for a long time, but it won't leave you hanging. It doesn't let you know things the characters haven't figured out for themselves. In my opinion this is far and away the best scifi show ever made. You're going to love it.

If you ask for more info but no spoilers on the expanse, you will almost always get extra info from what was in the show. This is partly as the show is based on a series of books and people love to share all the background and extra info from there, and people always seem to add bits of info that weren't in the episodes themselves. People also tend to give generic spoilers about what type of episodes are coming up when, or which characters you will grow to love (which spoils you on certain plotlines e.g. where they're at risk but you know they won't die, as people have talked about them being great in the future.) Anyway, the more you can stay out the comments or avoid anything that looks like an explanation of something, the safer you'll be :)

I was hooked the first moment of floating hair and droplets.
Ah good show to react/watch. Fast paced and plenty of confusion to keep you guessing - theorizing.
When I first started The Expanse, I had to rewatch the first 4 episodes twice before I could continue, just to get a better grasp of the characters, settings, and politics. I also found subtitles helpful during the first season for understanding the heavily accented Belter speech/language. So much world building in this show, the first few episodes especially really feel like they’re throwing a lot at you all at once. Totally worth it, and that does level out eventually so the episodes don’t feel so overwhelming after a while. I think you will appreciate the nuanced genius of this series more than most, which is why I’m so excited to see your reviews. Cheers!

Not a spoiler but so that you won't get lost with the people groups...
Belters are those who live on the habitable rocks in the asteroid belt. No central government but they have an Outer Planets Alliance (OPA) which consists of several factions scattered around the Belt. Martians are governed by the Martian Congressional Republic. Earthers are governed by the United Nations.
Hell of a ride for a pilot episode, hmm? Buckle up!
"Canterbury's"' burn is still one of my favourite scenes in the show after 4 seasons - just the way it conveys the sheer amount of power necessary to move the ship...
James Holden is the captain of the survivors of the Canterbury the stealth ship blew up,Christjen is the older Lady Earth diplomat and Miller is the detective on Ceres where the belters are those are the 3 main story lines with Jim Holden are the Pilot Alex Kamal,Cheif Engineer Naomi Nagata, Engineer Amos Burton, and Med Technician Shed

Thank you for taking on this show. Eagerly awaiting season 5, watching the reactions helps me get stoked for the new season. I hope you plan to get through all the episodes before season 5. I find many parallels with GOT - based on a great series of novels and novellas, rich histories and character back stories that are revealed very gradually, and somewhat as a tease. Most episodes seem to end in cliffhangers. Easy to get addicted. My observation - after a certain episode this season, most get hooked.

There is a fair bit of world building in the first few episodes, so don't be concerned about being a bit confused. The answers come, and the authors know exactly where they were going in the story. Strap in. :D

Welcome to the world of The Expanse! Number one, there is a lot to unpack for the first 4 or 5 episodes of this show. It does a lot of world building! So hang in there! If you have any questions just ask because the fandom is totally awesome at helping along and usually not to give away spoilers. This show is by far the best hard si-fi show period! Possibly the best show on tv. I might be a little bias. Sorry. This show is based off a set of 9 books which 8 are published and the 9th should be released very soon. It is very scientifically correct for the most part. No artificial gravity. Only thrust gravity. When no thrust they use mag boots. No hyper drive or warp speed. No imaginary space brakes. When traveling through space under thrust and need to stop you must shut off engines use small thrusters to flip ship into backward position and Fire engines to slow down. From top to bottom this show is so amazing! Hope you stick with it!

Just subscribed to watch tou take this journey. Incredible writing and character development. Season 1 is world building. Season 2 on gets better with every episode. Unlike most Sci-Fi, it is as true to physics as possible. My favorite show.

Yes! More The Expanse reactors :D Welcome to the Screaming Firehawks family. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. This is the best sci-fi series of the past 20 years. Season 1 has a LOT of worldbuilding and it's a bit messy but from S2 onward is just one crazy good episode after another until you are left without breath. Hope you'll stick with it. Have a like and a sub :)
General advice for the show, watch screens. A brief pause to catch details can tell you a great deal. Almost nothing you see makes it on screen by mistake.

People first think "Sci-fi", because of the setting and the era within which the story takes place. But the better description to be applied to the multiple story lines presented would be noir detective story, a mystery, and political intrigue. That these stories are presented against the background of a big chunk of our solar system is just icing on that layer cake.
I'm nearly 70 years old and have watched a lot of quality TV. I used to think "The Wire" was the best show ever. The Expanse surpasses that fine show, like Secretariat winning the Belmont Stakes.
But that's the thing about science fiction: you can tell any kind of story and have any kind of tone - romance, horror, adventure, character study, satire, procedural, Western, comedy, surrealism - within its boundaries. It's an encompassing genre with limitless possibilities. No single type of story (like the space fantasy of Star Wars, what most people think of when they think of SF) defines science fiction.
I love how you're a literal green skin here and do't even know anyone's name.

I doubt Holden's girlfriend was going to tell him she was pregnant because she made it clear she wasn't interested in a real relationship, and I'd think they'd have contraception pretty well perfected by then, and if not that, then quick and easy abortions. She'd have no reason to have a pregnancy or to tell him about one.
An interesting thing about the distress call is that the distress beacon was from an attached transmitter, not from the Scopuli radio. But if the girl we saw at the beginning was the voice Holden heard...that must have been the voice he heard. Two different signals?
You might want to watch with subtitles, it makes understanding things a bit easier, especially the Belter language.

This show is a slow starter but they're world building and developing characters. The show really takes off after ep 4.
And yeah, they are very tight in sticking to real physics. Most realistic sci-fi show to date.
Also, as this is based on a series of books the over arching meta-plot is well planned out. This leads to great seeding and payoffs, even subtle foreshadow you'll probably miss.
You may find it hard going up to episode 4. Stick with it. After episode 4 this becomes one of the greatest Scifi shows ever made. Eps 1-3 Very good but not great, Eps 4 onward... buckle up

Huh. I like that you're actually paying full attention instead of talking over the show, but at the same time that very fact kind of defeats most of the point of the reaction videos... What an interesting conundrum =D
I don't want to be that person who tells you how to do your reactions BUT :D. ... no but seriously speaking I feel like it would be great to get your thoughts as you go through the episode. It seems you're enthralled by the show, and rightfully so because it's really well done and one of my favorite pieces of media, but I'll just say I wouldn't mind at all if you felt like pausing a few times through an episode to talk to us and let us know what you thought of what you just saw. Totally up to you though. :) This would also help you avoid the inevitable copyright strikes that will be coming your way.
Oh yeah - virtually no dangling plot - what ever happened to Jaqen Hagar and the faceless men? The authors must have developed a serious set of checklists. And yeah, gravity, and the lack thereof, actually mean something in the real world.

Yes, if you have Amazon Prime you can watch it. It doesn't hurt to rewatch. This show has a lot to unpack first 4 or 5 episodes. It does a ton of world building. But the it is so awesome!
