The hole you sealed with epoxy was to lubricate the rotor shaft. It was to prevent wear by lubricating the shaft by dripping thin oil on the place where the felts were and ensuring that it rotates easily.
None of the generators I had like this had a lubricating hole. All mine were lubricated with perma-lube from factory. No regular lube required. Such brands were Miller, Sanyo, & Panasonic. Miller from the UK, Sanyo & Panasonic from Japan, & one I nearly forgot is Union, from Germany. All were good. This one here is probably a rare one.

Union already did it in the mid 50s, as the western (non-cοmmunist) part of the country probably made that grease earlier or cheaper.

New versions of the bicycle dynamo light set are still made. They are even made with LEDs replacing the short life incandescent bulbs (which are also hard to find correct replacements). Go on line and do a search. You will find these sets.

On my 12th years old xmass. Santa brought me a beautiful green bike! Immediately I call her the Green Hornet. Well my uncles cane with the idea of giving us money as present. There were a classification older cousins $25, my brother 15 and me $5. Some of them gave me $10 an my grandmother ( and partner in crimes) $20. The very first thing I bought was a beam with its dyamo beautiful cromed beam casing and the mighty dynamo buzzing like a crazy bee. Oh! That was a Christmas that I'll never forget.
Nice trick with the drill and sand. Some of these old bicycle generators used alnico magnets, and if you take them apart without a magnetic keeper you loose some of the magnetism, this one looks like a ferrite one however.
How can the magnetic field of an AlNiCo magnet (or any other permanent magnet) weaken when it is removed from the iron cores of the coils? That would be new to me. The magnetization of the permanent magnet is not stressed when its field passes through the air from pole to pole, in contrast to when the dynamo generates electricity and has to work against the magnetic resistance of the coils. I have an old dynamo with a block-shaped two-pole magnet made of AlNiCo material with two rotating pole shoes made of iron and two stationary pole shoes of the coil. The housing is made of die-cast zinc, coated with aluminum paint. The dynamo must be from the 1950s. I have opened it many times, recently to re-oil it, it can be easily unscrewed thanks to the fine thread. The magnet was certainly never weakened.

The magnetic field of the AlNiCo should not be in danger for a short time and without external magnetic fields.
No. You are probably thinking of a similar looking device made by "Nordlicht", "Anlun" etc. The company who made those here (FER, Ruhla, East Germаny) went bankrupt in the early 2000s, and they haven't made this model since 1990. This iteration here is from the early to mid 1960s.

I think it might have even had a small cap on mine that sprung shut. I think I still have the bike but not sure if it's still all together. Regardless you still did a fantastic job.

Since you jumped at the end straight to the "final look" i can assume the coil is a bust and you haven't been able to make the magnet rotor spin freely. The coil itself looks messy, you should have done it manually. Now it's just pretty on the outside, but non-working.

With generators that do not have this hole the only way to lubricate them is complete disassembly, if that's even possible for the owner.
now, how are you going to lubricate the spindle? you blocked the oil hole with filler. the felt washers were probably meant to retain oil. apart from that -- a nice restoration

Invest in good quality tools. You'll not regret the cost. You've got the money to do so, or you wouldn't have a You Tube channel. Use a tool correctly. Screwdrivers are not chisels, and needle nose pliers are not high quality grippers. Invest in good tools. Make your tools do the work, not you. Don't be cheap. There's no honor in it. Be professional, not on the cheap. You'll look better and show that you know your tools.

Well, it is a childhood memory.
New versions of the bicycle dynamo light set are still made. They are even made with LEDs replacing the short life incandescent bulbs (which are also hard to find correct replacements). Go on line and do a search. You will find these sets.

It had a purpose. I think it was made for lubrication.
The coil looks so bulky.
Put it on the test.
The dynamo RPM is not extremely high, there are other dynamo type type which are self lubricated.

How do you know that the dynamo is made in Ukraine? You never seem to say. Live up to your title.
It's made in East Germany by FER model 8007.4 built 1961-1990 this is an earlier iteration, mid 1960s.
