Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

This guy seems to be very calm speaking while sharing his knowledge in all his videos, that's a very good attribute he has acquired for teaching. He should teach trade school, or night classes. I would tell the people while training them not to get a 'mental block' by being scare that you won't be able to learn it, that just lowers you confidence. Instead make learning fun and interesting, and if I can learn this job you can too. I don't own a chain saw and I was going to pass over this vid, but as I find out to remove and reinstall this clutch is basically the same as removing the starter clutch on a lawn mover but without the spark plug tool. Instead you use a starter clutch tool and most guy hold onto the blade to help loosen it (with the spark plug out of course). So, I learned something today from this video about chainsaws that I can relate to now. Thanks for that donyboy!

I remove clutches on all my Stihl saws the same way - I put a 3/4” deep well socket on my battery powered impact and put it in CW mode and spin the clutch off. To put it back on I put the impact in CCW mode, hand tighten the clutch on the crank and hit it a couple of times with the impact. I have piston stops but I never use them for a clutch. Stihl is now using a light blue grease on the worm gear and sprocket bearing, probably some kind of synthetic grease. I use whit lithium grease

Your patience and clarity in explaining this procedure are outstanding. You make disassembly and assembly of the MS180 so straightforward with your non-hurried filming and your clear narrative. Thank you so much! I do have a question for you please, Dony.
As I was changing the clutch drum on my Stihl MS180 over to a "rim sprocket" style of drum and sprocket; I noticed that the thin band which lives to the outside of the drum, seems to have come loose a bit, and when I attempt to the install the new drum over the spindle and roller bearing assembly, this metal band is prohibiting the drum from seating down over the clutch properly, AND making contact with the end piece of the oil pump assembly.
Has this metal band come loose somehow, or is it supposed to be in contact with the outer portion of the clutch drum? I don't recall that the band was in contact with the original clutch drum when I removed it.
Thank you again Dony for your chainsaw lessons, I am an avid subscriber!

    • @donyboy73
      @donyboy73  3 ปีที่แล้ว

make sure the brake handle wasn't pushed forward as this will make it impossible to install the drum

    Great channel.
All methods are well explained even a novice could follow this guys instructions.
But don't use a piston stop tool.
    Just holes my MS180 piston.
I tried an impact driver (without the piston stop but with the plug installed) to no value.
Just take off the starter cover and chock the flywheel, then hand tools to remove the clutch which has a left hand thread.

Dony I would love to see you swap in a adjustable carburetor into the MS170/180. There are several videos showing it but they are all piss poor videos. I know you would do it justice and easy to follow along. I know its not your thing to do those kinds of mods for us but these saws could benefit by being able to use different fuel mixtures like my other saws do and a bump in performance. I love your videos your great at making them and I hope you consider doing a carb upgrade for us.

I like the nylon rope idea as it's never going to damage the crown of the piston :-D
Maybe feed the rope in from it's center, so you have a short loop inside, not so easy to trap it in a port.

I prefer the rope or plastic piston stop. The metal stop can and does punch a hole in the top of the piston. Many years ago, before I got started in this as a hobby, a Stihl dealer returned a chainsaw to me with a small circular hole in the middle of piston. It was in fact running when I gave it to them, but at the time I didn't know what they had done to it. I just took their word for it that it was going to be impossibly expensive to repair. They even charged me the $30 diagnostic fee for what they must have known was entirely their fault. They're good guys, but it does tarnish their reputation some.

Just subbed, Very helpful thank you! I recently got myself a 261c and i believe the worm gear has sheared off because theres not enough of it for the clutch drum groove to catch it. Noticed when doing pre start checks if there was oil, obviously no oil was coming out.
I did try the rope method but it was on extremely tight and i was afraid of damaging the crankshaft, is there a specific rachet you would recommend?

Nice video, thanks ! When I put the sprocket cover back on it doesn’t spin as easily as you showed at 7:02, also the chain spins at idle. Do I need to replace clutch? The springs were not broken
