When I was growing up in Accra New Town I was tracking Polo's performance by watching his matches. In all his matches I watched, I never saw any opponent dispossess him of the ball.
    He was exceptionally brilliant .

The best Ghanaian player ever. I saw him personally and I can vouch that even Maradona wasn't as gifted.

@ 17:31 what is Polo saying here when Smith asked him about Razak being selected as African Footballer of the year in 1978? Fact is Polo was not fit for the 1978 AFCON held in Accra. He was only invited at the last minute when the standing nr. 11 Agyeman Prempeh suffered an injury at the hands of SS-74 (Acheampong's soldier boys team). Ghana panicked. Blankson of SS-74 was called in to replace Prempeh.
Ghana was forced to bring Polo into the Black Stars because the situation was dire. Nigerian newspapers started mocking Ghana that we didn't have a team anymore (remember Ghana was making noise that they wanted to win the AFCON for the third time to keep the cup for ever; that was the norm during those days, that the first team that will win it 3 times got to keep the cup for ever. Brazil had won the World Cup for the third time in 1974 and therefore kept it forever. Ghana wanted to emulate the Brazilian feat on the African continent).
So Ghana had to bring in Polo. He did not play in our first match, a 2-1 win against Zambia. Our second match was a 1-1 against Nigeria; again Polo was rested. His first match was our 3rd group stage match agains Burkina Faso which we won 3-0. At that time the Burkinabe (Upper Volta) were a weak side, so Polo was gradually introduced into the tournament. Got it?
How then can Polo be selected as the best player of Abdul Razak? Polo what are you saying at 17:40 that Kotoko had influence and since Razak was a Kotoko player he was given the African Footballer in 1978

It is for Ghanaians to determine who is the all time best and not Polo. It seems to be self aggrandisement for Polo to say he is the all time best player of Ghana when we have the likes of Osei Kofi, Robert Mensah, Abedi Pele, Abdul Razak, Ibrahim Sunday and above all Baba Yara.
Why do you think the Kumasi sports stadium was named after the late Baba Yara? How was it possible that President kuffour who is an Ashanti would skip all the prominent Akan players and name the Kumasi stadium after a non Akan and a northerner? This must tell you that he was an exceptional player.
Polo's football career ended in the Arab world whilst the likes of Cameroon's Roger Milla who was Polo's contemporary played Europe. The question then was why didn't european scouts spot polo? Those who preceeded him like Ibrahim Sunday and Osei Kofi were invited to play in European teams. You shouldn't be struggling to attain some recognition that has eluded you at a time that you have gone pass your prime and unable to rewrite history.

Yes I liked the who were telling the truth about polo, to my point of view polo were tribalism if you listened to him very carefully that's he didn't succeed 😉 😜
He was a good player but you had to broadern your horizon ,you have to be free from hates envy and jealousy 😉 😜, be matured 😉 and gains respect from all the corner, he wasn't good as osei kofi ,Baba yara , razark ,this players I have named them were picked by their country men because they seen them, they heard them, Razark played for cosmos , in those days I think only player Pele were signed by cosmos , secondly osei kofi were brought to England 🇬🇧 here to play for one of the premiership but he runs away because of the weather 😉 😜
And Baba yara every English person who loves football knows him , this wasn't by agents.
So self proclaimed the best footballer in ghana 🇬🇭 but polo is not realistic, yes. I started secondly school in Accra between 1976 I left ghana 🇬🇭 1986 yes , me and Dan Foster were in the same work place 🙃 I watched polo almost every week .yes we shout 🙌 polooooooh
But he wasn't better than this guys I have mentioned their names even soccer Gaddafi was great 👍
But polo is like one of the guys I think called themselves Ga,m33
    That's cost him.
Correct any typing errors please 🙏

How could the Akans influence African to make Razak Africa best player. I saw both Razak and Polo played and Polo was a better dribbler but Razak was a complete player and scored more goals. I am a Kotoko fan and I will say Polo was a more entertaining player but it's just unfortunate this interview have exposed somebody I like very much as narcissistic and probably a tribalist. No two ways about it, he was a great player and was better than Abedi Pele but he needs to be humble. This interview will make him an unlikable person.
As a player, I will rank him as amongst the best five players of all time in Ghana. He was as good as Messi in dribbling, he was that good.

Greatest of all, that will be difficult to prove or ascertain. A lot of players have come and gone. Baba Yara, Osei Kofi, etc played like magicians. Polo was great, no two ways about it. Polo could have played for all the great teams in the world and made a name for himself like Messi or Diego Maradona. He had the same body structure and played like them. He was just that good.

Polo was a good player but not all time. I saw polo play in the 70's. The debate was between himself and Abdul Razak. Just like Shamo Quaye and Joeb Debrah it was hectic. Then came the deciding factor the 1978 afcon. Both players featured for Ghana. After the tournament Razak was adjudged the best in not only Ghana but also Africa. That ended the debate and the name 'golden boy'. Razak was the best in that generation

The only soccer player whose name was on the lips of every Ghanaian in all the ten regions was Mohammed Polo.He was named after every skillful and talented young player in Ghana. Thus why we had Kumasi Polo,Sunyani Polo,Sekondi Polo,Bolga Polo,Tamale Polo,Cape Coast Polo,Ho Polo,Asamankese Polo,Koforidua Polo,Suhum Polo,Dodowa Polo,Ningo Polo,Obuasi Polo, and more and more, even the great Opoku Nti who led Kotoko to win Africa cup to win 1983 was known as Tarkwa Polo.

@@georgeadamson9050 why was he not chosen as an African best if he was that excellent? Many clubs in England and the world named their players after George Best one of the icons of English national team but he never won any international laurel. Equate that to the polo/Razak debate. Let's debate intelligently and not fanaticism. Razak was Africa best whether you like it or not.

Abedi Pele won Africa best player for three consecutive years ,but he would always tell journalists who sees him as the best ever Ghanaian footballer to give that accolade to Mohammed Polo.Jay Jay Okocha never won Africa best player award, but he is recognized all over the world as the best Nigerian footballer ever.As the saying goes.... Mohammed Polo was even better than Messi of today.Case closed my good brother.

@@georgeadamson9050 what kind of illogical argument are you espousing? Comparison can only be justified among peer groups. Polo and Razak were all household names in the 70's. I watched both of them play for their respective clubs. Polo from Auroras to Hearts and Razak from cornerstones to kotoko. Argument went on for years until the decision was taken in 1978 afcon. Did you see mathematical odegbemi of Nigeria play? How do you compare jj okocha to him? They played at different generations so you can't compare the two. When It mattered most Razak triumphed over polo. Take it or leave it. That was why cosmos quickly signed Razak.

@@lieutenantcolonel8576 I think you've concluded the debate yourself that when it mattered most,Razak triumphed, referring to Afcon 1978,but Mohammed Polo was a household name that dazzled and tickled Ghanaians in those days, even across club lines, since all football clubs and their respective supporters were marvelled at his amazing skills. My brother in Akosombo who played for Akotex in the 70's had this to say,"When you tackle Polo, the result you get is SUULIYA". Good bye my brother, best wishes and stay safe.
