if one is sincere Allah will take care of the "how" you become guided. Sincerity is not just saying to yourself "I am sincere". It's not letting your desire, culture (forefathers' way), your prejudice cloud your heart/mind when it comes searching for God's path. Forget your name, your language, your formal education, and talk to God as just a human being, with your unique self/personality, only then you will see the truth has been always there, bare, shining and warm. I do wish to make a comment on his past atheism. Atheists come in different forms. The sharpest in critical thought is an atheist who deconstructed from a religion like Islam or Christianity where they strongly practiced their faith. Such an atheist would be embarrassed to tell a conversion story completely lacking in anything foundational and fully devoid of reason. He might have been an atheist but absolutely didn’t go through a deconstruction process from a strong belief in god.
