I really enjoyed your video. Thank you
Nice job
Nice JOB, you should meet TRX Bench from Germany and organize a CB repair GIG !!! That would be awesome.
uPC1182 original audio-power IC can be replaced by uPC1242. Just one difference. The 1242 has two ground pins. The original 1182 has only one. Pins are in the same order, so long as you connect the two adjacent ground pins of the 1242 to the single ground pad.
73,
Chris at Nomad Radio
idle2600 - thanks, I hadn't worried about sitting down to compare pinouts as I had the right part, and I can get the right part if I didn't have it. if the correct part wasn't available I would of needed to look into it and do what you suggested.
The 1242 was all we could get after the 1182 was discontinued. Probably a moot difference this many years down the road.
Keep up the great work and 73!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Don't forget to clean and tighten the back pcb earthing screws, can cause hell on tx, sorry just my repair habits jumping in LOL :-D.
The case looks almost identical to the uniden 200 40ch uk rig.
All old unidens suffer from lazy rx needle syndrome, im sure uniden had a different s-meter standard, or they allways had a low i.f level to aid filtering, maybe lol.
Uniden schematics allways had a familiar feel, similar reused stages.
zx8401ztv - yes I always check the screws, 8 times out of 10 they are loose.
lol me too, yep allways loose.
loose screws, like most of the operators ;))
Throttle bottle, Ooow i was an operator too LOL :-D
c.b was a community hobby round my neck of the woods, great for older people that were disabled and just wanted a natter :-D
Hello, I was wondering if you could share how you do the alignment of L16, 17 and 18. Per the instructions it calls for a frequency counter to be connected to TP3. When I try to do this I can’t seem to get the frequency counter to lock on the frequency. Please help. Thanks
on the meters screws stuck with thread locker/glue that wont turn, I heat a screwdriver and use it to heat/free it up
I have the President AX144 but it looks exactly like the Uniden AX144. Looking at the back of the radio and specifically the three power prongs sticking out from left to right what is the use of each prong? I don't have the power jack and must connect 12v to the radio differently and don't want to mix up positive and negative of course. Thanks
It’s the same radio, but a power cord from eBay or Amazon, they are cheap. Cobra is the same for instance,
What final is in the ax 144? I haven't cracked mine open yet
Probably the 2SC2312... but who knows if its been swapped out with something else after all these years.
Hi there, nice video, I have a snake 148 GTL here, it was modified for 26 and 27 mhz, I have put it back to just 27 mhz now, I have done a cap kit in it and aligned it using another receiver best I could but it seems to drift off frequency even after it has warmed up (1 hr later) from turning it on, would you be interested in aligning properly for me as I haven't got gear and can't find be bothered mucking with it any more, would it cost much to realign (ball park figure), I'm in the north island, Manawatu, cheers Bill.
Contact me through radiomods.co.nz and we can go from there.
