Thank You For the Heartbreak is a stunning original ballad from Benack, what he calls “the most honest, vulnerable statement that I’ve put on recording.”
“It shows a different side of me artistically,” he shares. “It’s not happy or joyful, it’s just me.
“I wrote this tune days before the session. We had everything planned for months, but it just poured out of me in one night. And I said wow, I want to do this tune. And I want to do it as a duo with Peter Bernstein. And when we went into the studio it was so raw, so fresh, that we started recording, and I literally started crying in the middle of the first take.
“The idea is, I hadn’t fallen in love in so long. I hadn’t taken that leap of faith. I had gotten used to being single, and I had convinced myself that love is a waste of time. And the sentiment of the song is actually, you know what, thank you for being the person who reminded me why people bother to fall in love, and why people bother to have relationships. Because when it’s good, it’s definitely special.”

Mr Benny Benack, words cant express how much influence your style of singing has had on my growth and development as a jazz pianist and vocalist. Even though I'm only 16 years old, I'm play piano for the biggest college in my state, and I get to record one of my solo piano pieces for our album, and your tunes really inspired me to write and compose.
