Designing 15 years. Started doing flowers right before V Day and thought "what did I get myself into?!" But I've learned to love itand even love the chaos. Here in Phoenix Az at Tatum Flowers!💛🌹
Thank you very much for that kind compliment, Nelia! We are so pleased that you took time to watch our show. On Flower School Live today, Leanne made some lovely Valentine's Day designs that you might enjoy as well: th-cam.com/video/EsuWRLiDe6w/w-d-xo.html So glad you could be here with us and hope to see you again very soon. Best wishes to you!
5 years & never intended to be a florist! Opened the shop for my daughter but she decided to do something else & I refused to let the shop close so I put myself through my own “Florist’s boot camp” & basically taught myself! 🌹
That's an excellent question, Daniela! You can probably bring your roses in one week before Valentine's Day. Give them a fresh cut and then put them in clean water mixed with flower food so they can hydrate well before you design. It's also a good idea to dip them in Quick Dip, which is a rapid hydrator, which will also help your roses drink more water. You can find both flower food and Quick Dip here on our website: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/collections/flower-care-products We also have a video on rose care which may be helpful: th-cam.com/video/agjSfbd7_eQ/w-d-xo.html Thank you very much for taking time to watch our show and we look forward to having you join us again soon. Wishing you all the best and hope all goes well with your holiday floral designs!
This is my first Valentine watching you I like everything you do I tell my friends about it and they watch you and I'm from Dallas Texas my name is Lydia and you do a very professional job I love it 👍💝😀
What a lovely post, Lydia! Thank you very much for your enthusiasm and support of our program. You are a valued member of the Tulip Tribe, and we appreciate you sharing our broadcasts with your friends. Hope to see you next week for the Wednesday Live Flower Show, and in the meantime have fun with flowers!
I"m looking forward for my 43rd Valentine's, and love everyone one of them, It's fun, It's busy and yet so very much fun, that you have to love the business, I do!
That's exceptional, Sheri. Congratulations on bringing Valentine's Day joy and happiness to others for 43 years! You really do what you love, and that's truly awesome. Thank you for watching our show, and we hope to see you again this week for the Wednesday Live Flower Show!
So delighted to hear that you liked the Valentine's Day design, Gay! Thank you very much for watching our show, and we hope to see you again soon for more holiday floral design with Leanne. Wishing you all the best!
I was just going to say James from Dallas Texas I've used love to spoil quite a bit because if it's in full bloom it's really pretty it's just gorgeous and it bends very well so I do try to find things that I can or playable and I'm one of these and I still like I call it plumosa a lot of people call the asparagus fern but I think it is so beautiful in a any kind of design❤❤❤❤
You are absolutely right, James! Plumosa is beautiful in any kind of design and it works well in Valentine's Day arrangements too. We're so glad to see you back on our channel and we so pleased to hear that you are watching our shows again. Valentine's Day will be upon us very soon and we want to help all of the floral designers get ready for it. Please join us again whenever you can and hope all is well in Dallas these days. Best wishes to you!
Back again after watch your video, I am retired, and unable to work , so I really enjoyed vicariously watching and reminiscing the holiday prep, and seeing all the new varieties of roses and flowers. Tfs. Debbie in N.C.
That's very exciting, Anita, and your experience doing church flowers will help you during the busy Valentine's Day production. Best wishes to you, and thank you for watching our show! Let us know how it all goes.
That's so exciting, Primm! It's fast moving, but also a great opportunity to learn and develop your floral design skills. Thank you for watching today, and wishing you the best of luck!
Oh my gosh this is January 20th 2024 and you just said this is 2020 I cannot believe this is 4 years later and they still look fabulous all of the designs
Hello James! How marvelous to see you again and we hope you are doing well these days. Happy New Year to you and thank you for stopping by to watch this show on Valentine's Day preparation. It is hard to believe that it is four years old, but it just shows you how quickly time passes. So many things have happened in the last four years, but it is wonderful to know that many flowers and floral designs are timeless. So glad you could visit with us and say hello. We look forward to seeing you again soon and we wish you the very best in all that you are doing these days!
Hello Elia! That's an excellent question, and if you are asking about the powder that Leanne dips hydrangeas into, it's called alum, and it's a pickling spice that can be found at the supermarket in the spice department. We also have it on our website here: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/products/alum-for-hydrangeas-individual-pack-3-ounce-bottle Hydrangeas are thirsty and alum helps the flowers drink more water so they can be fresh and beautiful for your floral designs. Thank you very much for spending some time with us to get ready for Valentine's Day. We hope you will visit us again soon and we wish you the very best in all that you do!
That is very exciting, Simple Curls! Ribbons really dress up a design and make it look festive. Thank you so much for watching our show for the first time, and we hope you will join us again on Wednesday for Flower School Live. Even though it will be a busy week, be sure to take good care of yourself while you work with flowers! And have fun as much as you can. All the best to you! P.S. If you want more ideas, we have a great resource library on our website: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/resources.html
That's a great question, Lashonda! Leanne created the first design with white roses, hydrangea, and a pink heather heart, all in a silver compote. The compote is a container that Leanne had on the shelves in the warehouse, but you could probably find it through a floral wholesaler or through Accent Decor perhaps. We also have vases and containers on our website as well and you may find something you like there: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6 Hope this information helps. Thanks so much for watching our show and we look forward to seeing you again soon when you find the time! Wishing you all the best and please take care!
I was very ill when I had a florist shop. I got a thorn in my hand. One of the very fine ones and I contracted a disease called Tetanus or lock jaw which is the common name. I almost lost my life xxx
We are very sorry to hear that you were so ill, Dorne, and are so glad that you are still with us. It is so important that you shared that and appreciate you taking the time to do so. Thank you very much for watching our show, and please do take care. We are grateful for your presence here every day. Wishing you a peaceful week!
@@FlowerSchool Thank you so much . I didn’t even know I had the thorn in my hand . Paramedics thought I had an allergy or something. My throat was closing up and I couldn’t breath. When I recovered I made sure my two employees had their tetanus shot. Unfortunately due to the recession in the uk , I had to close my florist in 2008 . I love watching your designs . How floristry has changed! I wish I could afford to join your online school . Only my partner works at the moment so money is a little tight at the moment . Love to you all .xxx
Having a business can be both a labor of love and so challenging at the same time, especially weathering the ups and downs in an economy, Dorne. We know how that is and sometimes you have to make tough decisions about what you are going to do. Despite it all, we are so pleased that you've chosen to be with us for our shows, and please know that we'll be here when you are ready to join us for the on-line courses too. Thank you for your lovely presence and wishing you all the best!
Those are some of our favorites too, James, and they work so well in floral designs! Thank you very much for watching today's show, and we hope to see you next Wednesday at 3:00 pm for the Flower Show Live!
Great question Denise! I only work in fresh flowers, but you could certainly add a silk bloom if it was something that didn't hold up as a cut flower, like a magnolia bloom. Thank you for watching.
That's a good question, Brenda. If you are going for a spiky or linear effect, you could substitute snapdragon, liatris, larkspur or delphinium perhaps. Or you could use a different type of green or filler instead. It really depends on what you are trying to achieve in terms of your design. Hope this helps, and we hope to see you next week for Flower School Live!
That's a great question, Maria. Having a small variety of designs to fit different budgets is a great way to go. What you can do may depend on the space you have available. Some customers may want bouquets so having some flowers handy to wrap may help as well. Best of luck with your sales, and let us know how it goes.
Another important question, Karen, and thank you for asking it! It really depends on several factors: cost of perishable materials (flowers and foliage), cost of hard goods (vases and such), and your labor. Also the cost of flowers may be higher (Leanne mentions supply and demand in the video) and that cost must be covered in the price. We do have some videos about pricing profitably, and here is one you might want to see: th-cam.com/video/P_knrLX8uow/w-d-xo.html We really appreciate your excellent questions, and hope that you will join us again soon for more happy holiday floral design with Leanne. Wishing you all the best!
That's an excellent question, Maureen! You type :tulip and it should appear. Here are a few tulips for you as well - 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷. Thank you very much for watching our show today and we hope you enjoyed Leanne's fabulous designs. Given that this is your first Valentine's Day in floral design, you might enjoy our resource library which contains a wealth of information about floral design: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/resources.html So happy you were with us and hope you can join us again soon when you have time!
It's a lovely time of year to create floral arrangements, Marie-Therese! We hope you will take some time to design something that makes your heart sing. It's a pleasure to have you and we wish you all the best!
I've worked freelance with florist doing Valentine's which I agree on the wiring of roses may not be necessary however once upon a time a long time ago when I first started doing sympathy I walked in to the room where most of the floor flowers were put before the service and all the little heads of the Roses or bowing I had to come back and wire them I just couldn't take it so lesson learned in heat they will bow if it's cold they're probably be okay but these funeral people keep the heat on I don't know why it's horrible it's not good for the flowers or the person that is being laid out so anyway that's just my opinion let me know what y'all think
Yes, you are right, James! For many years wiring roses and other flowers was something every floral designer did for all of their arrangements. And if the rose heads are heavy, they may still need wiring to stand up straight and look beautiful. Your years of sympathy design experience are so valuable and newer designers could learn a lot from you about what works and why. Thank you for taking the time to watch this video, and we hope it was both useful and interesting for you. Look forward to seeing you again soon, and hope you have a pleasant Friday!
That's exciting news, Maureen, and we hope it is a successful one for you! Planning ahead for Valentine's Day helps you make sure your designs are fresh and beautiful. Thank you so much for watching our show today and we really hope you will join us again soon. Keep an eye out on our playlist tab as we will be releasing a Valentine's Day Designing playlist soon with videos that will help you be ready for the big holiday. Wishing you all the best and please have a lovely weekend!
That's a great question, Carmen! We have tulips in abundance and you can find them here: 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷 When we are talking about the Tulip Tribe, we are referring to our students, graduates and members of the Flower Lover's Club. Thanks so much for watching our show today and we hope to see you again very soon. Have a beautiful holiday!
That's so true, James! Leptospermum is an excellent produce that works very well. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this Valentine's Day program. Given how quickly this year has passed, other holidays and Valentine's Day will be upon us again soon. We hope you will join us for more festive holiday design with Leanne, and please have a lovely weekend with flowers!

Great question! If the pre-greened arrangemets are watered throughout the week there shouldn't be a problem at all. Thank you for watching Mitsa, we hope you join us for our Live flower show today at 3.
You can always green a vase. Pull them out and tie with simple knot. Make tons, put in large bags or boxes. Spritz with water and store in your cooler 😉
@@abbysnail3 thank you. It's the oasis sponge am worried about if once it's soaked will it perform the same after a weeks preparation with the greenery.
This is my first time valentine I love flowers 💐 I have in a question I do not have a refrigerator ,can I work in this day ?and how many days the flower be ok ?,
Hello Vrgina, and thank you for your question. We hope you enjoy working on Valentine's Day. It really depends on where you live and the climate, but yes, you can do flowers without a refrigerator. Some people cool a room with a small air conditioner, or put their flowers in the garage in colder climates. How long flowers last depends on the the type of flowers and how fresh they are. They may last 5 - 7 days if they are really fresh and are processed correctly with water and flower food. You might be interested in our resource library with information about flowers and their care. Hope this helps and have fun with flowers! www.floraldesigninstitute.com/resources.html
I would like to have a tea party for my mother on mothers day I want to use her birth flowers but I would like to use some other flowers. What should I use?
That's a good question, Munirah! Thank you for asking it. It really depends on your budget and what's available in your area. Carnations and roses are always good choices, and tulips may be available as well. Not sure where you are getting your flowers from, but the local florist and many supermarkets have an excellent selection of flowers from which you can choose. We have a wonderful resource library on our website to help you learn more about flowers: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/resources-flower-library Good luck with your project and hope all goes well with it!
That's an excellent idea, Munirah. A garden theme would be lovely. Mixing flower colors and textures along with different kinds of greens is a great way to go. Maybe decide on the colors you want to use, and then you can see what is available in terms of flowers. Either way it will be beautiful!
That's very exciting, Ursula! It is a busy holiday and an important one too in the floral design world. Thank you so much for joining us for our show and we hope this helps you get ready for it all. Complimenti per le bellissime composizioni. Un consiglio... Se dietro di lei non ci fossero fiori ma un muro in tinta unita, si vedrebbero meglio le composizioni. Grazie😉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
St. Maarten is a beautiful place, and a lovely way to spend Valentine's Day! We hope it all goes well for you this year, Jenifer, and thank you for watching our show. Have fun with flowers!
That's an excellent question, Kay, and yes, we have used a tape grid with certain vases. It really depends on the design you are creating, and whether or not you can build an armature (or sturdy nest) for the flowers with the foliage you plan to use. Thanks so much for watching our show, and we hope to see you again for more Flower School Live with Leanne!
You are most welcome, Leni! We are delighted that you are getting ready for Valentine's Day because it will be here before you know it.
Wow, kudos to you! Congratulations on your 5th year. Have a great Valentine's week!
How prepare the flowers for Valentine’s Day? How long can be roses stored before?
What a stunning arrangement Leanne ❤️❤️
This is gorgeous!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Pat, and thanks for watching our show! Hope to see you next week for the Wednesday Live Flower Show.
Back again after watch your video, I am retired, and unable to work , so I really enjoyed vicariously watching and reminiscing the holiday prep, and seeing all the new varieties of roses and flowers. Tfs. Debbie in N.C.
So happy to have you join us Deb!
This is my first valentine. Doing church flowers for five years.
That's very exciting, Anita, and your experience doing church flowers will help you during the busy Valentine's Day production. Best wishes to you, and thank you for watching our show! Let us know how it all goes.
My 1st ever !!!
What's the powder for hydro gas are you using?
This is my first Valentine's as a Business owner 🙏
That's very exciting, Anita! We hope you have a great experience and lots of sales! Wishing you all the best!
Thank you
Let us know it goes for you, Anita! You will do a great job.
Just watched you for the first time🥰 Thanks for all the great ideas, I love your ribbon ideas so fast! This will be my first Valentines!
WI ave been flowering for Valentine! for 73 years!
Wow! That is fantastic Gina.
Love the clear footed vase with pink roses and hydrangeas. Where did you source it? Not the vase with magnolia branches...Thanks
FlowerSchool thank you so much!!
We're delighted to be of assistance, Lashonda. Have a marvelous week!
I love stock , curly willow snapdragon, aspidistra leaves plumosa wax flower etc.
Those are some of our favorites too, James, and they work so well in floral designs! Thank you very much for watching today's show, and we hope to see you next Wednesday at 3:00 pm for the Flower Show Live!
This will be my 1st, from New Orleans area.
How grand! Enjoy your first Valentines.
Do you often add silk greens or flowers into your fresh floral arrangements?
Great question Denise! I only work in fresh flowers, but you could certainly add a silk bloom if it was something that didn't hold up as a cut flower, like a magnolia bloom. Thank you for watching.
If cannot get heather, is there a substitute?
I am thinking baby’s breath?
That's a good question, Brenda. If you are going for a spiky or linear effect, you could substitute snapdragon, liatris, larkspur or delphinium perhaps. Or you could use a different type of green or filler instead. It really depends on what you are trying to achieve in terms of your design. Hope this helps, and we hope to see you next week for Flower School Live!
What kind of arrangement would you suggest for a pop up flower shop in coffee shops?
That's a great question, Maria. Having a small variety of designs to fit different budgets is a great way to go. What you can do may depend on the space you have available. Some customers may want bouquets so having some flowers handy to wrap may help as well. Best of luck with your sales, and let us know how it goes.
How much would you sell the vase out at ?'... X
How do you go about getting your tulip to put it on line? Maureen D’Silva
I may try this Year , why not ?
This is my first Valentine
That's exciting news, Maureen, and we hope it is a successful one for you! Planning ahead for Valentine's Day helps you make sure your designs are fresh and beautiful. Thank you so much for watching our show today and we really hope you will join us again soon. Keep an eye out on our playlist tab as we will be releasing a Valentine's Day Designing playlist soon with videos that will help you be ready for the big holiday. Wishing you all the best and please have a lovely weekend!
how do i get a tulip pl
That's a great question, Carmen! We have tulips in abundance and you can find them here: 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷 When we are talking about the Tulip Tribe, we are referring to our students, graduates and members of the Flower Lover's Club. Thanks so much for watching our show today and we hope to see you again very soon. Have a beautiful holiday!
I love leptospermum I believe it's the pronunciation it's very workable and I just love it
That's so true, James! Leptospermum is an excellent produce that works very well. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this Valentine's Day program. Given how quickly this year has passed, other holidays and Valentine's Day will be upon us again soon. We hope you will join us for more festive holiday design with Leanne, and please have a lovely weekend with flowers!
hi i want to flow flowers arrangements on line
can i am from Mauritius
Hello Christine and welcome to Flower School Live! Yes, you can enroll in our on-line courses from Mauritius. We have students from all over the world take our on-line programs and they love them. There is so much support and guidance from the teachers and you can do the classes at your own pace. Thank you very much for being here with us and we certainly look forward to seeing you often for our shows. Wishing you all the best and may you have a week that is filled with beautiful flowers!
If you pregreen a week before the sponge will not work well when you soak the sponge again to add the flowers,,,is that true??
Great question! If the pre-greened arrangemets are watered throughout the week there shouldn't be a problem at all. Thank you for watching Mitsa, we hope you join us for our Live flower show today at 3.
You can always green a vase. Pull them out and tie with simple knot. Make tons, put in large bags or boxes. Spritz with water and store in your cooler 😉
@@abbysnail3 thank you. It's the oasis sponge am worried about if once it's soaked will it perform the same after a weeks preparation with the greenery.
@@mitsatakkou7308 yes, as long as you keep it watered.
This is my first time valentine
I love flowers 💐
I have in a question I do not have a refrigerator ,can I work in this day ?and how many days the flower be ok ?,
Hello Vrgina, and thank you for your question.
Thank you. I just want it to turn out nice. She love flowers and I thought about garden theme
That's an excellent idea, Munirah. A garden theme would be lovely. Mixing flower colors and textures along with different kinds of greens is a great way to go. Maybe decide on the colors you want to use, and then you can see what is available in terms of flowers. Either way it will be beautiful!
This is my 1st valentine ❤️❤️
That's very exciting, Ursula! It is a busy holiday and an important one too in the floral design world. Thank you so much for joining us for our show and we hope this helps you get ready for it all. Valentine's Day is a busy time for floral designers and also a special time where you will be sharing gifts of love and friendship with so many people. Not sure if you saw the latest show with Teacher Michelle where she also designs for Valentine's Day. Thanks so much for taking time to watch our show today. Wishing you all the best and have a lovely week!
Roses are so expensive during this time, is there a replacement flower, not carnations
Thank you for your question, Brenda. Ranunculus might work as a substitute flower. There are so many choices out there, and you might enjoy browsing our flower library to get some ideas: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/resources-flower-library Hope this helps!
My second year!🌷
Congratulations!

There is always a first time for arranging Valentine's Day flowers, Marie-Therese! We hope it will be this year for you and perhaps you will find some inspiration in our shows. So glad you were part of our program and we hope to see you very soon. Merci beaucoup!
Complimenti per le bellissime composizioni. Un consiglio... Se dietro di lei non ci fossero fiori ma un muro in tinta unita, si vedrebbero meglio le composizioni. Grazie😉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for watching! We do try to keep the area clear for better viewing. Thank you for the reminder.
This is my 4th year I am from St.Maarten Caribbean
St. Maarten is a beautiful place, and a lovely way to spend Valentine's Day! We hope it all goes well for you this year, Jenifer, and thank you for watching our show. Have fun with flowers!
I have been taught to make a tape grid when designing. You are not doing that. Do you ever do it?
That's an excellent question, Kay, and yes, we have used a tape grid with certain vases. It really depends on the design you are creating, and whether or not you can build an armature (or sturdy nest) for the flowers with the foliage you plan to use. Thanks so much for watching our show, and we hope to see you again for more Flower School Live with Leanne!
thank you ma'am
You are most welcome, Leni! We are delighted that you are getting ready for Valentine's Day because it will be here before you know it. what is your favorite flower,
The daffodil is my favorite flower.
Love heather
Also leptosporum

Heather is so beautiful and easy to use.
We agree that there are other choices to describe the production process, James.
Another one of our favorites!

Hello Alison - Thank you for your comment. Working with flowers is a wonderful way to go, and many florists look for extra help around the holidays. If you are interested in learning more about floral design, we have professional courses that will prepare you well for the industry. Here is a link to our courses in case you are interested: www.floraldesigninstitute.com/classes.html On-line courses are available for those who live outside the Portland, Oregon area, and you get a lot of support from our teachers, who are talented and experienced floral designers and educators. Whatever you decide to do, thank you for watching our show, and we hope to see you next week for Flower School Live on Wednesday. Wishing you all the best!
