One of the subjects of this film (manga) is “The Kyoto Animation Incident" It is also a requiem for the creators who died. This is my favorite anime, thanks for the reaction!👍
That scene was so powerful and beautiful ! It's a tastement to masterful writing when a character doesn't have to word his thoughts (in this case, her answer to that question) to fully comprehend them. This whole movie IS the answer to that question. Yes we realized this was a very direct reference to the horrible Kyoani incident. Kyoani is one of my favorite studios, they contributed so much to shaping my anime taste over the years ; Lucky Star, K-On, Hibike Euphonium, Violet Evergarden...their influence on the whole industry is unparalleled. And I'll never forget that morning when I woke up to that horrible news. Last year in Kyoto, we visited one of KyoAni's shops and bought some merch as our way of showing support in our own small way. May all the talented artists whose lives were tragically cut short that day find peace in an art-filled heaven. And thank you for taking the time to comment.
