Famous since when? Why is this famous? Where is this located? I only took an interest this because it's in my screen shots to choose for a background shot. However my personal interest is noticing what it made of. I see it has ancient people and animals within it's structure. For me, it's proof of Giants, even dinosaurs, snakes too! Others may not see it, but otherwise, why is it famous? Thanks

The so-called "shoulder seasons" are definitely a great time to do this hike. April, May, September, and October.

Great info you gave us and a very informative video of the location and of the hike to the arch. I Hiked Delicate Arch a few times before a pass was required. As for the hike, when you get to the end of the trail, you will be facing the Arch, you must go up and over a small land formation to get on the very slanted floor with the Arch, be careful .If you are in decent shape, do this hike...IMO, Delicate Arch the main icon of Arches !!!!!

My family and I did this hike this past week. We are from Illinois (pretty flat) we have done multiple hikes in different parks. I think the hike is labeled well by the park, now with that said- we did the hike around 11am when it was 95F or above! So that alone was hard. We took our time on the slick rock. No shade whatsoever. After you climb the rock there was a very much appreciated little tree that provided shade😂 so if you want to do this hike it's worth it. But I would have done this earlier in the day or later. Plenty of water too.

Difficult is absolutely the correct designation for this hike for general national park visitors. If you're young, fit (and used to the nearly 5k feet altitude), you won't consider it difficult at all. But if you're fresh off the plane from sea level or haven't hiked in a while, the relentless uphill nature of this hike will make it moderate to difficult. For an arch destination that's just as beautiful but with a more enjoyable hike, try Corona arch.

I used your videos to prepare for my Yellowstone/Grand Teton trip last August and I'll be using them again for my next trip to Colorado/Utah next month! Great info as always, thanks so much!

I believe slick rock got its name from early settlers. Their wagons wheels were metal rimmed so the horses and wagons had a hard time passing over

I didn’t think the hike was too bad. But living at 750 feet vs the 4K + at the park was the bigger challenge.

Yes, the altitude definitely plays a role.

I am afraid of trails with steep dropoffs. How bad is the portion that is on a ledge with a steep dropoff? Any recommendations on getting over, or at least dealing with, this fear?

Good question. The path is wide enough for two way traffic, and you can touch the wall for stability or peace of mind all the way up. I have my own phobias, so I hear ya. But I hope that helps you to know what it’s like. I really haven’t ever thought twice about it being dangerous.

You do have to get a permit as I was there this month.

So glad I went last year! I made my own "switch backs" on that slick rock; made the walk longer but slightly easier. There was a line of people waiting to take their pictures under the arch. Kind of spoiled the view.
Thank you for such a comprehensive review!

We did this hike for Sunset. Do not recommend for the unfit.
    Bring headlamps if you insist.
Informative Channel, but, there's turns in this hike that are Mental Strength Game.
Every turn wants you to quit.

Hi guy’s great videos! One question about this video. You said the hike was ok for kids. I have a 4 & 6 yr old that are very well behaved and we are walking everyday to help them on our hikes. With plenty of stops in your opinion will this be doable for them and I? I really want them to experience this. Thanks!

Here is an article we've written about Delicate Arch that may give you some more insight. If you plan to take many breaks, you will be just fine. And that's a great idea to take daily walks to prepare!

How early do you need to drive in to avoid the timed entry?

    • @WereintheRockies
      @WereintheRockies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Before 7 am. Here's a link to the national park website: www.nps.gov/arch/planyourvisit/timed-entry-reservation.htm

Tickets are a summer thing, no longer required two weeks ago at Arches when I was there. So check before you go.
