I am a teen who has been considering conversion to Judaism for a while now! Your videos are so helpful. When I look at pics of Synagogues or vids like this I just feel at home. I love the community there is with Jewish people. 💞💕
You definitely should! I am currently in the process of converting. My advice is to see if there are any synagogues near you and don't hesitate to contact them! They should give you all the information you need and be able to answer all your questions. You can also attend a few services if you want, as long as you notify the synagogue beforehand. (Also, make sure the synagogue you choose is part of the denomination you want to convert to).
First and foremost, you have to take 2 courses before you move on to the rest of the conversion process: Introduction to Judaism and Choosing Judaism. The synagogue should have them. Just ask when they have sessions available. The overall process should take no more than a year. But it will be worth it! I promise!

This Friday evening I will celebrate and observe Shabbat (the real and correct one) for the 2nd time ever in my life (I will turn 70 years old next week...Last week I simply rested and studied the word, as I did not know what else to do...but I watched your video and took notes, so this Shabbat I will do what you taught me...today I bought my first loaf of Challah bread. I want to keep JeHoVah's commandments! because I love Him! Thank you!

I was raised Christian and tried Shabbat once as a homeschool project with our kids! Changed our lives forever! Don`t wait for the `right time` or the `right items`, just start with what you have and what you know and you will get better as time goes by. Just do it! ;)

Thanks a lot! I just started working in a Condominium building which has majority of Jewish people. I was asked to put the elevator on service for Shabbat. So, the person doesn't have to call the elevator. The elevator just continuosly moves up and down while stopping on each floor. This prevents people from calling the elevator or pressing the switch for the elevator. This was a bit difficult for me to understand. But, your video has given me a great insight to Shabbat. So, thanks a lot again!
I love Shabbat because it is a commandment. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. I am Christian and I partake and celebrate Shabbat. Thank you for this video. G_d bless you!

Great comment... Shabbat should be MANDATORY for all in American law
Not sure what you mean in American law. Does That means the United States should legalize a commandment or laws that requires stores to be closed and no commercial businesses to be open like bars, movie theaters, so forth like it was years ago during Sunday when people thought that the sabbath was changed to that and kept it wholly that way. But we know that the sabbath is a sabbath the seventh day. Sunday is the 1st day of the week and the sabbath was never changed just people did it for religious reasons. Unfortunately if you legislate something like that it will be no different than the last days when the Vatican and the papal rule will mandate that everything is closed and everyone worships on the 1st day of the week Sunday again. schools will be closed stores will be closed no buying of conducting business. No working.This includes for the Jews as well as christians that keep the sabbath. We have to do this because we love God and he commands us to keep the sabbath. We followed his laws and his ways not man's ways. Do you say that's more reasonable and more spiritually true? 🙂
I know very little about Judaism and have no one in my life who is Jewish, but I really loved this video because it was so easy to understand even as someone with no knowledge and your absolute joy talking about your faith was infectious. I learned a lot about Shabbat from this video, 99% of which I didn’t know prior, so thank you :)

Marion, this is a beautiful video. I was brought up very secular, even declared myself an atheist at one point! It was quite a process to becoming religious, but I can definitely pinpoint the very START of my journey, and the START of sparking my Jewish soul with being part of a Shabbat meal at college. :)

I'm an ex-Christian, and only recently discovered I feel *really* connected to Judaism. I was raised in a diverse area (my church was a block away from a Greek Othodox church. I've started limiting my phone use from Friday evenings to Saturday nights.

I too am a convert and although I've been celebrating Shabbat on my own for many years (prior to conversion), I'm learning new things through your videos. I'm at the other end of the spectrum, though. Single with no children, so Shabbat is very different for me. Looking forward to more videos. Hopefully a havdallah one and some recipes!
I’m so glad to hear you are liking them!! When I was single I used to go to synagogue a lot for Shabbat as it was nice to be with friends, it can definitely be different.

We found out years ago that we are part Jewish, bc we were both born into strict Catholic households. I love the Jewish people, we have Jewish friends who are lovely people. God bless you.

I am a non-practicing Catholic but I think the Jewish religion so fascinating and beautiful and the one thing I incorporated in my home was our own version of the Sabbath and in my case it’s turning off all devices and it’s a freedom to know that I cannot check my email every hour or waste my time on the Internet. I like the idea of going off the grid for a certain amount of time to recharge our batteries.😊

This is awesome, I love learning families religious practice. I actually grew up in a Shia household, and we had a gethering every Thursday night, to recite prayers that welcomes the awaited Mahdi.
See, Shia Muslims are expecting that the coming Messiah will be arriving on a Thursday, so will have a Majlis, basically about that.
I'm not Muslim now, but I noticed that many Jewish things remind me of my Islamic upbringing.
Today I actually practice Hinduism, and I'm very happy and grateful in that now, but yes , I enjoy various cultures, and Judaism is one my favorite.

Marion, to avoid the prohibition of tearing on Shabbat my mom and grandmother would sit at the kitchen table and measure out a length of toilet paper and then roll them into balls and keep a basket full of these paper balls in each bathroom. On Friday afternoon in preparation of Shabbat they would go and remove the rolls and place one of the baskets out in the bathroom for use on Shabbat. I still do this to this day.

The reason that I like for lighting two candles is that Only G-d and He alone can divide the Holy from the profane .In lighting two candles He lights the way that we may find His Holiness.

You’re very welcome! We do not strictly observe Shabbat so sometimes we go to schul other times we dont. We like to go on walks or go for a hike. We try not to do errands or things like that but sometimes we still do.

Totally and it's hard to explain why we do things one way or another but it's just how I grew up really and what suits my life now!

This was so lovely. Can I ask you a question? I mostly see two candles for Shabbat. But have often seen videos with several lit at one time. Someone once told me they light a candle for every family member (although I think traditionally two are usually featured in any imagery I see about Shabbat). Are both usually done as the family grows? Or are more than two unnecessary? Or is it ....up too you? Thank you for sharing. 💗🙏🌺
That's right, there are different customs! I have grown up in a family that only ever lights two but I know families who light more.

How do you do and deal with birthdays and parties or graduation parties? Especially when dealing with family and friends that are not Jewish. All these are usually Friday night and saturday... We have a huge family and we will be the only ones who will be observing the sabbath.
We are not that strict so we will go to parties etc. on Shabbat. I know it is so hard though especially if you're not living in an Orthodox community with all religious friends and family!

Aww thank you so much! I'm sure she would but it's a long long labor of love I think it takes her more than a year or two as it's just a casual hobby for her. You can buy a needlepoint pattern like it if you want to make one of your own though or know someone who needlepoints!

Honestly they could be made out of anything as long as it's not flammable.

It's great to have traditions. We have adapted the blessing though as there is no Torah command to light the candles for Shabbat.
I would like to introduce my grandchildren who are 8 and 5 to Shabbat. What activities would you recommend besides the prayers over challah, candles and wine?

Interesting, Greeks have a similar bread called choureki, traditionally it is eaten during easter or pascha. I might be wrong but I think it is called pascha for Jewish people too. I actually looked this up because I did some research on Judaism and was amazed to see how much Greeks and Jewish people have learned from one another and even assimilated certain aspects of each others culture. Even our flags are the same color! God bless.

Actually Paska and Pascha mean Easter (also the Easter bread eaten in Ukraine is called Paskha) but it was taken from the Aramaic word for Peasach.. If you notice the timing for Easter is always around Passover. If you actually translate the word Passover(NOT Easter ) into Ukrainian and Greek...the word is the word for Easter!

I have been interested for a long time in converting to Judaism. Your videos explained things to me in a way I can understand. I asked a Rabbi on web chat about gentiles celebrating the Shabbat and he said it ok. I noticed on one site someone said you can use electric candles as a kindle /light provided you don't switch them off. God bless you and the Jewish People
