Sylvain's playing never fails to make me cry, for some reason. His harmonic vocabulary is god-like. His command of the instrument is incredible, and he has the absolutely sweetest touch and tone on the guitar. Not to mention his insane ability for improvising the most amazing arabesques! Plus, have you noticed how he never repeats himself? One of the greatest musicians who ever lived!
You're Right! In spite of me being a total Tommy- fan- Sylvain's solos are absolutely unique!! Those Wonderful, surprising scales are fantastic. Nearly never, what you expect- no, different and much much better!
Absolument unique!
Let me start by saying I have been a big fan of Richard Smith and Tommy Emmanuel for quite a while now, they are the finest fingerstyle guitarists, but.....Sylvain Luc, to me, is beyond compare, I just can't think of anyone that can do what he does, he is simply THE BEST!! Especially his jazz sense, I bought his SUD disc back in 2000 when it came out and that just floored me when I heard it, it is one of my very best albums, so thank you for posting, I didn't know these guys got together on one stage, very special concert to see, would love to see Sylvain perform one day, I wonder,'Where does he tour/ play? I've seen Tommy and Richard before, who both inspire me as a guitar player, but Sylvain is so phenomenal, I wonder if he has any instructional material out there! I just love that guy's playing!
Totally agree man! Its funny you talk about the Trio Sud trio, I almost listen to it everyday, I just need it now to feel well .... I had the chance to see him many times in concert and it changes your think about guitar playing....He IS a genius....should see in live his complete thumb indepedence while he Plays the Melody....
Tommy Emmanuel. The man can play any style with anyone. And the emotion he packs in his tone..Just staggering. And Sylvain, well-words does not cover much in his case. His Phrasing sounds like the way great saxophone players do it. Masters of using space. And the man got great humour. Richard Smith is just great!
0:30 - Stompin at the Savoy 8:15 - Yesterday 16:09 - Caravan 23:52 - Nuages 30:47 - Poinciana 42:09 - Isn't She lovely 48:10 - Blue Moon 01:02:05 - Somewhere over the rainbow 01:08:47 - Swing 42 01:16:16 - If I had You 01:23:14 - Limehouse Blues
Unbelievable! 3 grand masters all together in one room! Totally different skillsets and styles but all 3 work so insanely well to blow everyone's mind!
The uptempo, nearly bluegrass take on Caravan was the icing on the cake! U.N. be freaking believable! I’m hurt I only discovered 😢Sylvain Luc the day he passed. Thanks SO MUCH for this ridiculously awesome video! RIP Sylvain! ❤
3 badass guitarists on stage. it doesn't really get any better with the insane amount of talent right on that stage. (sigh) I could listen to these guys ALL day.
Thanks to their hard work & dedication. Real music! Beautiful music! Compare this to the SHIT that is trending on youtube. WTF is wrong with people. Who cares.
Luc was just tremendous.....during this session with 2 amazing players.....as he is always! He plays with so much creativity it opens your head up to imagine what a guitar can do. Loved seeing a Godin being played with a Kirk Sand and a Maton by 3 masters ...Nuage was played so amazing and has stood to be such a unique piece of music...Django would be amazed !Cheers and thanks for posting
Sylvain produces music subconsciously, in the same way he would walk, talk, read, write..... His instrument is just part of him. Reminds me of Miles Davis or Charlie Parker....
Sylvain is a monster on guitar. good to see a Godin being played by a great artist. but I haven't heard of sylvain before tonight and I have personally been played to by Tommy Emmanuel and I know the honour of having the greatest fingerstylist in the world play with heart and credibility, like Tommy Emmanuel. He can speak in a language that everyone can understand..my hats off to both.
I'm on an excursion into time & space this evening with 3 guitarists of the highest caliber known to man transmogrified I am just what I'm hearing is really beautiful & yet mind blowing . They have brought me on an exquisite journey into time & space with my senses let loose , my brain can hardly take it all in , out of this world does not cover it . I hope this concert is preserved for future generations to listen to & try to understand what the human being is capable of . Note not a sheet of music was used all straight off the cuff . A mighty round of applause for posting & for the tree amigos . The harmonica player is no slouch either . I'm one happy chappie to night
*_I remember and won't forget it, one of the most beautiful things that ever happened to me was when Sylvain Luc and I were playing on stage and then I realized how real this dream seemed._*
When I read the title of the video I couldn't believe it, so I broke the record for fastest click ever and I was delighted by the way those three made me feel... Truly.. Truly priceless
That's FANTASTIC ......When you tube opens the Paradise Gate ....and you share the place with three angels with their guitar who offer you a long walk from Stompin' at the Savoy , Yesterday ,Caravan , Nuages , The Sheik of Araby , Ain't she lovely , Blue Moon , Tenderly , Somewhere Over the Rainbow , Swing 42 , I' ll see You in my Dreams ....until the finishing line with some country tornado . THANKS !!!!!

Two GOAT guitarists here, with two distinct styles. the best part of Sylvain and Tommy together is the sense of humor... they are having. a great time, and so is the audience. No need to rank them... their approach is very different and both are valid. I remember Sylvain’s early years when he was more of a classical player. But playing with Bireli really lit him on fire. And I think he’s eclipsed Bireli now. The sad thing for me is he’s a bit overly flashy now... he used to be more melodic and rich in his chording (check out his early days backing up Bireli). Now it’s a lot of flash. Still a joy to watch. Bireli and Tommy too. Love the fun they’re having.
Absolutely unique! He plays ... of an instrument but above all, he plays, he has fun. It has been a long time since he settled the technical aspect of the guitar, it remains only his emotions, his permanent inventiveness. As JM Jaffet says, there is a celestial vault of guitarists in which we find all our loves, from Clapton to Wes Montgomery to Django or Joe Pass and many others, Sylvain has cracked this vault to offer himself, to offer us a space of unprecedented freedom. This man is a star, like Mozart or Coltrane.
Time for the old Jedds to stop thrashing the same old licks..time to move on to new things..thankyou Sylvain for doing something different and original.

I don’t cry but his improvisational skills are so easy and natural and melodic while retaining the original melody touch points.
This was one of mankind’s peak live performances between two people.
