When this song was not very old, a strutting fellow came to London, claiming to be the Christ. A huge crowd surrounded him in Trafalgar Square to hear him speak. In the middle of his talk a rag tag Salvation Army band began to march around the perimeter of the crowd, singing this very song. And the man slunk off in shame and defeat. They were not the nail pierced hands of the risen Lord Jesus Christ.
