This was one of the routes I "lived" on as a homeless teenager. 30+ years later, it feels nostalgic as hell to see and hear the same senses via a brand new train model!
We are deeply saddened that you had to experience that as a teenager. No one deserves that and we just want you to know that it is an honor that we can bring you that nostalgia feeling, despite the unfortunate memories associated. We are proud of you for what you have overcome and thank you for your support. It means a lot.
What a perspective, this is by far the best front view of of a Subway Line I've seen on TH-cam, nice and clear. Looking forward to more of the same for all the other Subway lines
I'm dating myself here...when I was a kid we took the A train from 175th Street in the Heights to Rockaway Playland. I always loved the trip. This video brought back amazing memories. Especially loved the Jamaica Bay crossing
I am amazed by the fact that you can tell in the video the moment you go underwater. This phenomenon happens to sound when the pressure changes because of the sheer weight of the water above you. About 5 before Fulton station it goes away.
I OPERATED R10 CARS TO FAR ROCK IN EARLY 1970s. AFTER LEAVING THE DARK & DINGY SUBWAY & GOING OVER THE WATER IN JAMAICA BAY, IT WAS ALWAYS AS THOUGH I WAS ON ANOTHER PLANET. I NEVER GOT OVER THE AWESOME DIFFERENCE
I have to say within the past couple of days watching this video, I am very intrigued and amazed seeing what goes on underneath the NYC subway tunnels. I've always had an obsession riding subway trains as a kid and I was always curious what lies in the tunnel. Fast forward, I'm 32 years old and still obsess and am fascinated with NYC trains/tunnels whenever I come to visit. I definitely would love to see more videos. I'd love to see the 4,5,6,7, N, Q, R,W,1,2,3,J,M & Z lines, I wanna know what the tunnels look like :D
Excellent! Growing up in Hammel Houses I must have taken this rout on the A, C, and even CC 800 times. Heck as a child I remember the E running way out there as well! This brought back memories of the railfan window days of the R-10s, R-40 slants, R-38s, R-32s, and R-27s on the A and C. This is great. Thank you!
Yeah all the train modles you mentioned yeah back when was fun I used to keep roster while in class JHS180Q still passed all my classes I'm grad 1983 then I'm glad BCHS 1986
Thank you and much appreciation for you sir! That was awesome to hear the R179 screaming thru those tunnels. This is truly something that has been missing, keep doin' your thing.
Wow! This is a lot more fun than the cab view! To me, the train sounds of the New York Subway are not relaxing, it is an adrenaline rush, just like the city itself! Crossing over the many track switches, the third rail flashovers, the signals that change at the right time, and occasionally seeing a train passing by or rushing in the opposite direction. Although the Rockaway sequence is nice, my favorite part is when the train first enters the tunnel, then you fly past the local stops after Euclid Avenue. From Euclid all the way to Inwood-207 Street, the viewer sees the grit, grime, dirty waters, the graffiti along with hearing the traction motors of the city's newest trains taking riders to their destinations with speed and safety. I have rode on the R-1/9 trains on fan trips along the A route. I got to ride on the recently retired R-32's which ran locally and as express trains on the route. I'm an occasional visitor to the system from Pittsburgh, PA, but anytime I visit the subway, and the transit museum in Brooklyn, it is always a treat! And finally, to quote my favorite tag team wrestlers, the late and great Road Warriors Animal and Hawk: "OOOOHH! WHAT A RUSH!! Thanks for sharing a fascinating video!!!
Can't believe I'm 2 weeks late to this! Subscribed!!! Thank you for this amazing masterpiece. You just made me gain the love for trains I used to have. I first got into trains because of the RWF of the R40s on the B back around 2008-2011. With that clear view gone, both on the subways and the LIRR, it became boring watching onboard subway videos because you're just looking at tunnel lights passing by. This is a true subway POV!! I can feel it all, the adrenaline rush between every stop is so amazing. I cannot believe I sat more than an hour and watched from start to finish. The R179 propulsion finished me. The sound effects were out of this world. Thank you for making this and doing it professionally and safely. You do know you can't just stop here right? You've done unlocked a new perspective that is very very very joyful. And the subway has some areas that ASMR would be out of this world. You can really make this channel dedicated to that and get $$$ in the process. I look forward to some more videos. I suggest breaking an entire line down into 2 or 3 parts (more videos, more views, less work), then upload the full route after all the parts. The 4 line, the 7, the J and the Q would be great routes to see and hear from this perspective. Thanks again for this masterpiece. A true classic. Great way to start 2022! Edit: I just took a look through your other videos and I see you already have parts. Glad I'm not too late to the party! Yall just getting started!!
Did the same thing back in 1981-83 from far rockaway to 207 no traunt officers or cops would bother you in those days while cutting class it took 4 hours for round trip
@@hemmingscable It was 1981-82 for me. I'd get on at Broadway Junction and I would transfer to the C at either Nostrand Avenue or Hoyt-Schemerhorn to go to Lafayette Avenue to get to school. When I started skipping classes, I just stayed on the A. The rush hour crowd thinned out at West 4th Street, so I could then go to the front window and enjoy the view. As for school, I already knew I wasn't going to pass anything anyway, so I had nothing to lose. 😊

Wow, that was a fun ride. Reminds me of when most subway cars had front windows where a railfan could stare out and take in the sights, trackwork and signalling. The last cars that allowed this kind of fun were the recently retired R-32 cars. I used to always ride in the first car, from a child in the 1950s. The complexity of the trackwork is clearly shown here. Thanks for posting this awesome video, highlighting the longest subway line all the way from Far Rockaway to 207th Street. Loved the ride over the Jamaica Bay, and the express run from 59th Columbus Circle to 125th Street. The perspective, seen from platform height is dramatic and amazingly clear, it's the best NYC subway video I've seen! Thanks for posting this incredible video!!
Thank you so much again for sharing this. Sorry our last reply was erased, as we made a change to our management. How are you liking the channel so far?
I grew up in Howard Beach in the 60’s-70’s. The A train at Euclid Ave was our train. So many memories. In L.A. now, so just memories. ❤️ Thank you for all your videos, such a unique perspective. I look forward to all of them as they get produced and released. You have a unique opportunity with the access you have. Wow, just wow.

My dream/hope is to see you do this route again, or one of the other elevated/exposed to the elements routes, but when there is snow on the ground! Theres a neat muffled sound of the train going over snow-covered tracks that is quite different, calming, relaxing that i havent heard in many years!
I've been an MTA NYCT train operator for the past 5 years and it has been a dream of a lifetime to do what I've been doing. As a Train Operator and as a fellow NYC Transit enthusiast, these videos bring joy to my heart in a way I can't even describe. With that being said, let me just say for the record that when I say that the stretch between Broad Channel and Howard Beach-JFK is, without a doubt, one of the best stretches to operate in the entire system, that is not an exaggeration. It is just an absolute blast!! And the express run on CPW is the greatest express run in the entire system. It will never get old no matter how many times i do it! Keep the videos coming! These are the best NYC Subway videos out there!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for your service to NYC. It is truly an honor to know that you are able to appreciate the content and able to experience your opinion on the best stretch for train operation in the system. Looking forward to sharing all we have to offer and hearing more stories you are wiling to share; Thank you so much again. 🏆🫡
@@wtaenyc WONDERFUL!!! PLEASE PLEASE do as many lines as you can. Even if we have to contribute money for the cause. The next best thing would be to have a camera mounted outside of the Track Geometry Train lighting up all the nooks and crannies. But the NYCTA would not go along with that most likely. So, you are filling in a HUGE NEED now that the R-32's are history. Also, this will act as a railfan's best chance at seeing what lies along the tracks, seeing the ramps of flying junctions, seeing the track level changes and the way switches work! Again, please do more----many more of these videos. If you need contribution from your subscribers, I for one would think it would be worth the money to act as an incentive for you to continue filming the rails of the NYC subway system!
I would LOVE to see every route on the NYC Subway, Long Island Railroad, & Metro North Railroad front view, full trip, & both ways! Such great videos you already have! 😁
Growing up in Far Rockaway never had the experience of riding all the way to the end, always got off in midtown or the furthest I went was to 125th street. These videos are great I am so glad I came across them. Good job
Thank you so much. It’s a pleasure to give you an experience that you have yet to do yourself. We truly appreciate you and hope we continue earning your support.
next you're there, stay on until you reach dyckman-broadway. get off and walk up the hill in ft, tryon park and visit the cloisters. bring your s.o. it's very romantic. the unicorn tapestries are there. beautiful views of the hudson and the nj palisades.
This is great video! With great pleasure watching it from the beginning to the end! Great angle for the camera! And the sound is amazing, real music for the railway fan!)
Great view on the thrash and the rats. 😛 Hearing all the inner working of the power regulators and the motors makes you appreciate the engineering that makes these trains works so reliably.
Thanks for this video! This is the train line I used to ride back and forth from work every day. Been away from NYC for a while now but having fun recalling the station names before the train gets there.
The A is my local line i've been up and down it so many times I commute on in it too and from school and somehow even though I know this all by heart it seemed so new this is amazing and I cant wait to see the rest of your videos this is the subway from such a cool POV
The (A) train is one of the subway lines in the New York City subway system. It is designated by the letter "A" and is one of the busiest and longest subway lines in the city. The (A) train primarily serves the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, connecting various neighborhoods and providing transportation for millions of commuters and tourists. The (A) train operates 24/7, providing round-the-clock service to passengers. It starts its route in northern Manhattan, at the 207th Street station in Inwood, and travels south through neighborhoods such as Washington Heights, Harlem, and the Upper West Side. It then enters Midtown Manhattan, making stops at major transit hubs like Times Square-42nd Street and Penn Station. Continuing its journey, the (A) train crosses into Brooklyn via the Manhattan Bridge, offering breathtaking views of the city skyline along the way. In Brooklyn, the train stops at popular destinations like Jay Street-MetroTech, Fulton Street, and High Street, serving neighborhoods such as Downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights. The (A) train is known for its express service, which means it skips certain stations during peak hours, allowing for faster travel times. However, during off-peak hours, it operates as a local train, making all stops along its route. Throughout its journey, the (A) train provides convenient access to several notable attractions and landmarks. In Manhattan, passengers can easily reach the iconic Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, and the vibrant neighborhoods of Harlem. In Brooklyn, the train provides access to the Brooklyn Bridge, Barclays Center, and the scenic Brooklyn Promenade. The (A) train is equipped with modern features and amenities to ensure a comfortable ride for passengers. This includes air conditioning, digital displays indicating upcoming stops, and designated areas for passengers with disabilities. Like any subway line, the (A) train may experience occasional delays or service changes due to maintenance work, signal issues, or other factors. It is advisable for passengers to stay updated on any service alerts or announcements to plan their journeys accordingly. Overall, the (A) train is an integral part of the New York City subway system, offering a reliable and efficient transportation option for residents and visitors alike. Its extensive route, express service, and accessibility to various neighborhoods and attractions make it a vital lifeline for commuters and a convenient way to explore the diverse cityscape of New York.
I can't thank you enough for this outstanding video One of the 1st trains I ever rode end to end such clarity ! hope to see more of these for the rest of the lines from you :)
Thank you so much for this. We are truly honored that you appreciate the content and hope that you are able to check the rest of the channel out and enjoy the other videos as well.
We don't think it's strange at all. The trains and this system is quite amazing and intriguing, no matter how many times you ride it. We are honored that we can assist in providing something you can enjoy.
It is amazing the different feeling you get due to the lower perspective at bogey POV. The true natural sound is spectacular, as you hear the squelching of the wheels on curves, the clicking as you go in and out of switches, all without passenger noise. The motor accel and decel, and trumpet sounds are a symphonic enhancement. visually, being so low hives you a real sense of track gauge not triangulated from human eye height above the platform. Even seeing the world below platform is as realistic as i ever care to come, because experienced otherwuse it means i am in real bad trouble. The real danger of the third rail feels vulnerably closer, because, well, you ARE closer. Please record more videos in this style for the other lines, if you can. I’m curious about the Williamsburg Bridge lines, and more of the daylight surface stretches, but the subway views are great too, since they are time-if-day neutral in their perennial dark world with eerie incandescent pop-up reality. Wonderful job.
Now that i, m listening to the type of subway car, and the fact that it, s throwing a lot of spark from the third rail, this has to be an r32 subway, an old workhorse first introduced into the transit system in the 70, s. This is a new way to see where you are going, again cool video.
We appreciate you for your kind words. The R-32’s are now retired and this is the R-179 train that is currently the newest, in service, train in our system.
Nice video been waiting on someone to get creative since MTA went to the full cab on the leads will be watching for more and the rest of the subway system thanks
Thank you for these. Back when I worked in NYC in the 1960's and 1970's, I rode the entire system, including lines that don't exist anymore (Culver Shuttle, Bowling Green-South Ferry Shuttle, 3rd Av El in the Bronx) and SIRT. Now that the 2nd Av line is in service, I can' say any longer that I have ridden the entire system. Probably won't get back east to ride the new stuff, but it's too unsafe to try. Finished Chicago. Now have to finish Toronto.
Incredible video. You can really appreciate the complexity of the track arrangements and unlike most RFW videos, you actually get a good sense of the train’s speed here. Hope you do more of these in the future!
It's a pleasure to bring you this experience and we appreciate your kind words. We hope we have done a great job with the channel thus far and sorry our last reply was erased. Thanks again for the support.
Great views, and it's awesome that you have the overhead displays for every station! I assume you're an employee who got to see the R211 A train program for every stop?
I came up with a probably unfeasible but ingenious idea to tidy up the Fulton St Elevated and Rockaway Lines. East of Euclid, since there’s a provision, the line could continue underground as a 4-track line until Rockaway Blvd and then go above ground after curving onto the Rockaway Line. Rockaway Blvd can be rebuilt as an express station, the stations between can be local and Howard Beach could be converted to an express station. Further down the line, elevate the express tracks at the bridges and have them bypass Broad Channel above the station and then an elevated infill station can be built where the Rockaway Line splits up and the Far Rockaway Branch can be a continuation of the express tracks and the Rockaway Park Branch for the local tracks and to make said split easier since it’s an infill station, its layout can be like that of 125th St-Lexington Ave. As for the Lefferts Branch, it can branch off from Rockaway Blvd via Y-junctions just like the ones at Columbus Circle, Rockefeller Center and 36th St-4th Ave. Since there’s a provision for the M or R to branch off from Rego Pk and connect to the Rockaway Line, that can also connect to said line in the same way if it ever gets built.
Video was well done as a L fan I'd say the MTA is a bit different than our CTA in Chicago as far clean platforms and tracks go just an observation is all gooday NYC overall great experience!!
Thank you so much and we also appreciate you for leaving your feedback as it relates to the two system comparisons. Shoutout to CTA for their amazing work and for their cleanliness; it is something we too are manifesting for NYC’s system in the coming years. We are happy that you were able to enjoy this and it would be an honor to do the same with your system. Thanks again and we send positive blessings to you and your family ☀️🫡.
Take the "A" Train, as Billy Strayhorn and Dike Ellington said. In fact, the title of the song was inspired in a real stoy. When Billy Strayhorn came to New York to work with Duke Ellington, he arrived to Penn station and phoned Duke to ask how to get Harlem. The answer was "Take the "A" train!"
Such a different view of the city at Night, which I never got to do while living there. This CouplerCam is FanTastic!!! Loved the view of the City Skyline at night!! THANK YOU!!! ❤️ 😍 💖 My Fave part is run between Broad Channel and Howard Beach: isn't that the fastest run in the entire system??
How’s it going. We hope all is well with you and your family. We recently changed management so our comments got deleted unfortunately. We just wanted to take this time to thank you for your support and we hope that we can continue to earn your respect. If you truly enjoy our content, please be sure to thank the next NYCT employee that you see, for their service to NYC. It’s because of them that you even get to enjoy this experience.
Unless I'm mistaken once you get to the Concourse line you are already in the Bronx, I know I grew up there and used to live there. 174th st and Clay Avenue, So anytime my grandmother or uncle wanted to go to the subway we would go to 174th street beside the Cross Bronx Expressway and walk till we got to the tunnel beneath the Grand Concourse and go into the subway. An enjoyable walk as a child, wouldn't be that now, as in my late 60s I rely on a Walker to get around.
Sending you and your family nothing but positive blessings Mr. Gordon. Thank you for taking the time to leave your warming comment and it’s an honor to bring back those memories for you. It’s unfortunate that you have your situation but we’re proud of you for all that you have survived thus far. 🫡

What a perspective, this is by far the best front view of of a Subway Line I've seen on TH-cam, nice and clear. Looking forward to more of the same for all the other Subway lines

Yeah all the train modles you mentioned yeah back when was fun I used to keep roster while in class JHS180Q still passed all my classes I'm grad 1983 then I'm glad BCHS 1986
My mother and father are originally from Hammel's. If you know an older guy named Cliff, that's my father.
Hammel houses…tough town👊👊

@@wtaenyc Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to more experiences to come!
I used to ride the A to 207th many times while I was cutting high school classes. Brings back memories.
How’d you like the ride?
@@wtaenyc Much better than sitting in the useless classes that I skipped out on.
My Man that’s an Incredible voyage.
I love watching this train go through the clear night sky

0:54 The R179 goes on the singing tracks.

Thanks. I always loved the view from the front. Can no longer look out the window, liked we use to.
The railfan window days are unfortunately over.

@@wtaenyc Of Cource as a matter of fact Im reading this from an A train at 125th street!
Maximum respect for sharing the information about the A train as it is one of the icon train in the system, like you stated. 🫡

Excellent video from a different perspective. Well done!
Thank you so much. How are we doing so far?

Nice video been waiting on someone to get creative since MTA went to the full cab on the leads will be watching for more and the rest of the subway system thanks
How have we been doing so far?
Thank you for these. Back when I worked in NYC in the 1960's and 1970's, I rode the entire system, including lines that don't exist anymore (Culver Shuttle, Bowling Green-South Ferry Shuttle, 3rd Av El in the Bronx) and SIRT. Now that the 2nd Av line is in service, I can' say any longer that I have ridden the entire system. Probably won't get back east to ride the new stuff, but it's too unsafe to try. Finished Chicago. Now have to finish Toronto.
Shoutout to you for all you’ve achieved thus far; honored you get to experience all that you haven’t personally. 🫡

I. Like. The. A. Train. And. Its. On. Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
R211’s ARE OUT!!
Let us know how you like them
Video was well done as a L fan I'd say the MTA is a bit different than our CTA in Chicago as far clean platforms and tracks go just an observation is all gooday NYC overall great experience!!
Excellent
We appreciate you
Omg 😱 look at that view wow 😮
The A train is connected to every other line in the city.
🤔🏆🫡
Bravo, great ride, great operator and terrific video!
@@wtaenyc Oh, my pleasure. I enjoyed it so severity. keep it up. looking forward to the 211 some day.
Thank you for sharing that story and the true creative idea behind the song. The A may forever be one of NYC's subway system's most unique lines. 🫶🫡
This is the next generation of RFW’s 🤤
It’s a pleasure 🫡. How are we doing so far?
How cool would it be if NYC streamed like this a few random lines a day?
It would be an absolute genius idea. Imagine if you were able to watch this while riding on the train.
wow, this is great!!!
Thank you so much. How’s the channel doing?
