Hello Dr Jimmy. I'm from Malaysia. First time on yr channel after searching for Fairchild Botanical Garden on TH-cam. Interesting information abt yr friend & his favourite plant Tacca Integrifolia (The White Batflower) He said the native plant of Malaysia. Actually it's commonly found in Central Asia, including Malaysia. It's native to tropical & subtropical rainforests. In Malaysia, the Malays called it Keladi Murai translated as Magpie Robins Bird Yam. Haha. It has very beautiful flower, mesmerising "bat-wing or angel-like flower" almost like in fictions. #whitebatflower #Malaysia #Fairchildbotanicalgarden #keladimurai
Aghhh Jimmy so many plant tubers I don’t know an I’m having hard time watching the ones I do now!! Lol Great place an awesome plants, Amazing 😀 Hope your staying safe out there.
Haha lots of plant channels in this upcoming series I didn’t previously know about myself. Who knows, maybe you’ll find some new favorites amongst the collabers 🤗🤗
Thanks, so amazing! Love the shingling plants. Thanks for filming. The huge monstera(s) and huge philos are all around, grown outside in the grown where I live in Sydney, Australia.
Yeah the shinglers and huge monstera(s) were the highlights for me as well. Don’t have any of these in the outdoors where I live in Los Angeles. Just cacti 🌵 all over the place here 🤗
Awww thanks for the kind words. Yeah, it’s hard to please everyone. Someone disliked the video because they didn’t like seeing my face and that I talked too much (I deleted the comment) 🤷🏻♂️
2:04 that's a Monstera Acuminata :) but watch out, there are 3 different plant sold as Acuminata. In Germany there is an adansonii ssp. being sold as Acuminata and in Indonesia they have some other plant as Monstera Acuminata. This is the real one and you can see this in the growth pattern! Juvenile plants have shingling growth that barely has fenestrations (look here: th-cam.com/video/RqlcVrSQ9KI/w-d-xo.html) German & Indonesian Acuminata have fenestrations and viney growth from the beginning on. Also a good indicator that this is an Acuminata is the way the aerial roots grow - it looks like a millipede!
Oh you might be right. I have one but obviously not as mature lol. Didn’t think their form changed more than what I’ve seen but it’s very possible. I’ve reached out to several people and few speculations out there. Mick would probably know best (I didn’t get a chance to ask him 😅).
I didn't like the content--I LOVED the content! I think it was the most fun to watch because you were with a group of likeminded (plant-obsessed) people. :) Thanks for sharing.
Haha thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the content. I’m glad I was able to capture the memories as well. I didn’t realize how nerdy some of the conversation was until the editing 🤣🤣
I bet it is a HUGE temptation for so many people that go there, to take cuttings from this place! I've seen quit a few videos online of people running through peoples yards at night stealing their plants, insane! I wonder if they ever catch people taking cuttings and what they do to them if caught?! I mean this is basically heaven for some of us. It would be the same as sending a normal person into a bank vault and expecting them not to slip a few bucks!
I think this is an issue all botanical gardens face and will face as this hobby intensifies. I’ve heard they’ve ramped up their security cameras and other measures. I figure soon places will take a hard and strict stance on it and treat it like stores handle stealing 👮
@@LegendsOfMonstera they definelty should treat it like stealing! For the plants sake. There are so many cruel, disrespectful, self serving people out there that I could just imagine ravaging those plants until there were nothing left. I see how these people fight over plants on Facebook purges and its not hard to imagine those plants being raw meat and the visitors being wild wolves 😂
Legends Of Monstera As a volunteer, I know they haven’t done too much. There are cameras in the greenhouses, but other than that not really anything. They do keep almost all their ghost orchids in a basement though, pretty interesting.
They are not rare plants, that is a label that internet marketers use to earn more money selling specimens, they are plants from other geographical areas, where the so-called progress has not cut down forests to put super markets and factories yet
Wasn't expecting a "that's what she said" joke to be mixed in there. Haha Loved it.

Haha yes, “rare” is location specific.
