- Abandoned and ruined places have always intrigued me. The faded grandeur, vague hints of the decoration that were once carefully chosen and admired, but most of all the possibility of freeing it from its long slumber by piecing it back together using the clues left behind. This might be a romantic view of such a place, but it could become a reality. To take on a project like this, you have to be a dreamer, as well as a bit delusional - and that's precisely the fun of it.

@@SouthernArtist77 I remember him doing a Kickstarter on the place a couple of years ago and it was going to be a collaboration with a handful of people. However, the deal fell through because someone else had purchased the property at the time. I am pleased that it eventually came back to Dan.
I thought his farmhouse was pretty derelict when he bought it and started the backbreaking task of renovating it - this is a whole other level! But I will enjoy watching him bring it back to life. Dan's the man!!

My sympathies to Amaury and his parents on the loss of Phoebe. Our animal companions become such important parts of our families, their absence is always felt strongly.
Me too...just lost my little boy was so special to me..I can't seem to cope with going to collect his ashes, was meant go Wednesday but just felt overwhelmed . 😭 Thoughts with Amaury.
I also extend my sympathies as I have been there too many times to count. There are many reasons Amaury has endeared himself to me - his love of his dogs is another! 🥰

Maria wins all the time everytime (except for when Dan wins) because she is perfect! When she plays the piano in the vlogs I am literally in awe! Multitalented. I also like her personality. And she is pretty.
I am so glad there is so much LaLand community support for Dan and his amazing endeavour. I am guessing that Dan is going primarily solo on this. He has to be one of the most courageous young man I have seen. I truly wish him the fulfillment of his dream and look forward to following his journey.

The countryside you're in and drove through to get to Dan's chateau is beautiful. I'm assuming he's not terribly far away from Lelande. The walls of Dan's chateau first, and then if they're stable enough, the roof. Those walls have me wishing I was a structural engineer and able to jet over to help him out. I hope we get to find out how Dan purchased it and what his plans are. I hope he gets a big sponsor to afford specialists for the structure.
@@emmahiscock9284 Apart from how that could even possibly work - I'm pretty certain he said he's going to restore the entire building to how it was; either way, Dan's probably going to talk exactly about the whole behind-the-scenes of this project at some point.
@@emmahiscock9284 What he meant by that is that there is no roof! So, it is only half of a chateau, currently.
There is a video in French from when it was for sale in 2017 that says the offer wasn’t as important as the condition that it be restored to the original style. I expect the sale was more the case of Dan proving he had the skills & means (or funding plans) to renovate it completely.

Dan's place is going to be epic I think. Going to take a LOT of work but he's young enough, ambitious enough, strong enough, capable enough and he'll spend his time restoring this structurally sound (we hope) gem of a chateau. And your support, that of his fans, patrons and others will be a big help no doubt of it. But it's a monumental task - but one that perhaps even borrowing Amaurey once in a while whose skills are brilliant - perhaps this will be an amazing transformation that will be inspiring, educational, fun and just this side of insane - but so worth it in the end when he does have it as it was before. Big job, but a big imagination to spur him on with help and support. Thanks for supporting our buddy Dan in this by featuring it on your channel. Brilliant.
I agree with Isabel that the first priority needs to be ensuring the walls are sturdy enough to get some temporary roofing on before the winter rains cause more damage.

@@jimmyconnolly3461 Yes, I'm aware of the close bond Steph and Dan have..... I've watched for quite a while and that's obvious. And Dan IS a BRAVE soul but young enough to take this on and tackle it. Going to cost a bit of pocket change but will be worth it in the end. And hopefully the "bones" are strong. First thing is re-secure the steel beams holding the walls together so it doesn't"explode or implode". Then top down and it will be secure. But yeah, Dan always has appeared adventurous so this isn't surprising.

This was so packed full of FUN! Don’t know what I loved best! It’s so great to have such compatible people kidding and having fun with sometimes boring or overwhelming tasks! Competitions galore!! So much fun for everyone. It’s what I love about Lalande.
Dan needs to have a dig party! Everyone bring a shovel and dig out the ground floor. There is so much to do to get it in the dry. I thought of arson when I noticed the twisted steel beams-such intense heat. Instead of closing his Paetron account he needs it more than ever!
What a fancy table setting for McDonalds! 😄Looks like the plates weren't even used. It's a shame, because they looked great there. Someone should have taken some photos of Philip standing inside the chateau--I saw some potentially great shots there. In fact, costumed shots of people from La Lande in there could make some great Halloween photos. Some could dress up as different people who lived in the chateau (like Coco Chanel).
Every day is filled with fun and laughter when you LaLanders decide to do something special for your family and friends. Totally outdid yourselves with the garden party at Dan’s chateau. He likes to pretend that you have gone too far, but I know that he appreciates the huge effort and the big turnout of true friends❣️❣️🥰

A bit of a giggle: when you showed the chipmunk 🐿 plate, a baby chipmunk came by to drink from my fish pond, whilst I was seeing your chipmunk plate on the screen.
