Ruggs has the massive advantage of having a coach that can scheme him open and a QB that can get him the ball. A video like this gives me pause - especially, when I hear the glowing expectations of fans regarding the Cleveland Browns' pick of Anthony Schwartz in Round 3 of the 2021 draft. Based on the tape Schwartz appears to be a speedster with "ok" route running skills and, at times, suspect hands. Hopefully, Schwartz can make progress and add to his game, so that speed is not his only attribute. Now, granted, the Browns did not invest the same amount of draft capital as the Bengals did for Ross, however, considering the "crap shoot" picking WRs is, reigning in expectations might be wise.
You said it he was a 3rd round pick so he's not coming and they're expecting a day 1 starter. To get him on the field they'll create packages for him and if that goes well they'll expand his role so it'll be a development process instead of sinking or swimming.
A lot of his troubles were do to injury but even when he was healthy he wasn't very good. Sure he can run very fast in a straight line however that doesn't mean he has the athletic ability to play WR at an NFL level. He became more of a liability when he did get into games. Penalties (Usually false starts), catchable tipped balls leading to interceptions, and he is a fumbler. It would be frustrating on go routes seeing him beat his man deep but then have trouble locating the ball or moving his body to make the catch. Glad he got traded.
I disagree, this video really undersold his talent. I hardly ever saw him fumble or tip the ball like you said. And he's not JUST fast, in college football, he constantly jukes at least 7 people almost every touchdown. Seriously, look up John Ross Huskies highlights. Even on the Bengals in NFL, before his injury, I've seen him do the same thing. Even in NFL he wasn't bad, (unlike people like Tim Tebow, who were good in college, but bad in NFL)I believe his injury altered the way he played, and it's a shame that the video never capitalized his ability to juke so many people.
