Jesus, the sound effects still give me fucking nightmares! I played this when I was FIVE years old in 1985. Amazing, thank you for capturing this in such great quality.
fozzibab Right? I was 10 years old, recovering from a ruptured appendix, and all I did was play this game. I've been searching for a way to play it again...as soon as the video started, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
fozzibab do you know what sound scares me the most? The tricking dragon! If I hear him roar at a distance, he is close. A loud roar, and I'd peed me pants.
Ahhh, the memories. That was such a cool game! I remember playing on expert mode, the creatures would come at you fast. The dragons look like Barney the dinosaur! I loved the other Dungeons and Dragons game - Treasure of Taurmin...something like that. Great video!
Wow! What memories, I was like 7-8 years when this game out and played at a friends house and the game would scare the hell out of me. I just went back in time to a happy place!
Back in the day, I used to think it was a white dragon that was standing guarding the mountain, until I realized recently it's just the mountain smoke. Now I wonder how many thought the same thing, lol! great game for the system!
Holy blast from the past. We had nearly every game as kids (over 50). My little brother really liked this one. It's hard to believe that 1982 was almost 28 years ago.
I loved this game so much! Hearing those snakes before you saw them always scared the bejesus out of me but the first time you won was such a rush. Such a fun game to play, thanks for the memories!
Even with as far as games have come today, I'll still go back and play games like this. Recently got The Intellivision Lives for my Nintendo DS and was pleased to find this game on there. Thanx for posting this
I remember when my sister won this for the first time. We were inches from the TV, sound cranked so we could hear the dragons... then when she finally picked up the second half of the crown, we nearly blew the speaker out with that final sound. Scared the hell out of us as well.
Brilliant! I haven't seen this for over 25 years but it doesn't seem that long. The sound of the dragon snoring ...wow, that really takes me back! I'm 36 now :)
Never gets old. The lack of music and ambient sound, only the "clue" sounds, added to the tension. For a simple presentation, and based on a very primitive game mechanic (check Hunt the Wumpus for an earlier version of this kind of dungeon exploration), this game is still a fun time for me.
@@sinistermoon I've recently resurrected several TI systems and a PEB. Hunt the Wumpus was one of my test carts. As a kid I played that game constantly. It's terrible, but it's a good example of a type of game design that evolved from an earlier dungeon design, to Cloudy Mountain, then further on. Tracing the lineage is the only thing I can recommend about Wumpus these days. Good times with the TI, though.
It was, if you played it on the harder levels! Those snakes and dragons were a hell of a lot quicker and you couldn’t outrun them. Good luck if you ran out of arrows.
Man that brings back memories when my friends and I played this game for hours. It's hard to believe that was high tech back then. If memory serves me right that D AND D came out about the late 70's. In any case thanks for childhood memories.
Thanks so much for posting this, I played ths game ALL the time when I was about six. I just looked up the rarity of my games and found that apparently, my Tutankham game might be worth a few quid. Cool! Thanks again for the vid- brought a tear to my eye. :)
Hey thats awesome! Intellivision was my first console as well. My parents got it in 1982 or 1983 so I just grew up playing it until in 1988 when I got my NES. But I still played my Intellivision and still do to this day. INTELLIVISION LIVES!
I still love the sound effects in this . . . the big "whoosh" as you enter each stage, the snake hiss, the dragon growling, the terrible noise when your man gets hit, and the commanding tone when you pick up the last part of the crown and beat the game. Loved this as a kid and it's still really cool.
Me parents brought me the console in 85 I think... I older brother and I use to play it almost every day...this was one of our favorite but I think we preferred Sea Battle, Night Stalker, baseball, Lock "n" Chase and Snafu. The car racing wasn't that bad either... This console started it all and created my addiction to gaming... My 6 years old son plays my NES... I wish I would still have my intellivision... Thanks for posting this bud
That is awesome that you still have your Intellivision! I have 2 Intellivisions. One is a mint console that I keep nice in the box. The other only has one controller but I still use it anyhow. It sits very close to my PS3. INTELLIVISION LIVES!
Me too! I loved this game when I was younger!! When I get to Cloudy Mountain I use the slow level of play, lure the snake and winged dragons into one room with the crown and before they can kill me I pick up the crown and they vanish! Game over! I wouldn't mind playing this version of D&D again.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for posting this. I LOVED this game back in the early 80's. At first I was disappointed that our mom had bought us this instead of Atari for one of our Christmas presents. I soon realized that this was the far superior product. Really liked killing the monsters while they were still hidden. Way cool. Thanks for the great memories.
I was born the year this gsme was released, and im not ashamed to say that it totally scared 4, 5, 6 year old me back in the mid 80's when my older sister would let me play it.
I wanted the Atari, too, back then but my parents got the Intellivision - glad they did. This particular game was one of my favorites. At 37 yrs old I am still a gamer. PS3 :)
Gosh! It was more than 20 years ago I´ve got the Intellivision component for x-mas. This was one of my favorite games, besides Night Stalker, Astrosmash, Space Armada (like Space Invaders), Triple Action, Tron-deadly discs and many more. Intellivision lives.
WOOOOWW this takes me WAY back, havent seen it for years...use to have an intellivision back in the late 80's (it was my dads) i used to play this game hahaha wow, thats nostalgic. lol i really want an intellivision back
you're so right. The suspense that was built from the animal tracks and sound effects and how the beasts just pop up when you open another pod was kinda scary. I'm sure those are watching this who didn't grow up in the 80's are laughing at how we were entertained by this but damn, this was about as much action you can pull off on a console back then.
I played this game a lot back in the day. I still own a Intellivision to this day too. It sits next to my PS 3 80g and Wii, lol. We got our first Intellivision in 1983.
I have a story for you... It was Christmas eve back in like '82 or something and I wanted Advanced D&D so bad. I played Dungeon and Dragons in public school so this was the next best thing. Anyways, I was only 13 or so and couldn't afford to buy this game so I asked for it for Christmas. Well, come Christmas eve, I noticed one of the presents for me under the tree was the exact same size as an Intellivision game!! So... when my parents went to bed around midnight, I snuck under the tree and grabbed the present and went into the basement where the Intellivision was setup. I carefully unpeeled the corners and slid the game out of the box. I spent the next 4 hours, with the tv volume turned down low, playing D&D. I can still hear the hisses from the dragons as you entered each cave. Anyways, Before sunrise, I repackaged the game, went upstairs to bed and fell asleep. Come Christmas morning, my mom hands me the present. I tried my hardest to look surprised at what was inside but the tape had come loose and the game just fell out...trust me, you would have laughed your ass off if you were there!
aside this i fondly remember Intellivision game called Armor Battle, excellent game for 1 vs1! Had lot of fun playing it against my friends and bros! It is a tank duel where terrain really matters.
I reamber this game it was my number one game.my brother and i used to stay up half the night playin this game that was 31 one years ago.Not many people knows this was the first game system that could talk cause u had to have a special box for it.My Fav was b-17 bomber !bombs away!
I used to love this game too. I would play with my cousin. We would both play at the same time. I would control the movement and he would control the bow. Both controllers operated the character so this was possible. For some reason that was how we worked it out and we would play for hours.
I have heard you tell the story about the dragon noise and the arrow enough times that I have actually told kids at work and I don't think I've ever played the game. 'Oww oww!"
This stirs up some serious nostalgia for a child of the 80s Sitting alone and freaked out in front of a shit tv compelled to push into the unknown against my better judgment. I love this game!
I wish they would make this game for wii... I freakin' LOVED IT as a kid. My friend had it and I would go over his house all the time and ask to play it as soon as I got there.
OMG!!! after really some 20 years I can see this awsome game...thanks so much for posting it ..you are my hero!!! I need to show this to my brothers!!! I remeber I used to shit in my pants when the winged dragon was close and his terrifing roar used to feel me with fear!!! a CUlt
I have that same memory! I remember getting Beauty and the Beast for like $2. It was the only game there that I did not all ready have. Plus, I was very young so I did not have much money. Intellivison LIVES!
This was the sickest game ever. Even to this day. Scared the shit out of me as a kid when you could hear the serpent but couldn't see him.
ssssssss. sssss.
Yes especially that charging bear with that violent eerie noise! I had issues with him.
Jesus, the sound effects still give me fucking nightmares! I played this when I was FIVE years old in 1985. Amazing, thank you for capturing this in such great quality.
I was JUST saying this!
fozzibab Right? I was 10 years old, recovering from a ruptured appendix, and all I did was play this game. I've been searching for a way to play it again...as soon as the video started, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
+RavingNoah same here, I was ten too...no ruptured appendix though!!
+fozzibab The Thunder Castle intro always creeped me out.
fozzibab do you know what sound scares me the most? The tricking dragon! If I hear him roar at a distance, he is close. A loud roar, and I'd peed me pants.
Great game. I spent many hours playing this. Intellivision was a great system and ahead of it's time.
I remember spending most of a summer playing this at a friend's house. It was revolutionary for a console game. Atari had nothing like it to offer.
yes. it is fun.
Ahhh, the memories. That was such a cool game! I remember playing on expert mode, the creatures would come at you fast. The dragons look like Barney the dinosaur! I loved the other Dungeons and Dragons game - Treasure of Taurmin...something like that. Great video!

I thought it was that as well lulz :P
Me too
So did I, looked like a dragon to me all these years until now. I love this game
Count me on that list bro.😁
Me 3
Holy blast from the past. We had nearly every game as kids (over 50). My little brother really liked this one. It's hard to believe that 1982 was almost 28 years ago.
What memories this brings back. There were so many great games. I liked the sports games the most, especially football and baseball.
This might be the only video on TH-cam where all of the comments are positive
I loved this game so much! Hearing those snakes before you saw them always scared the bejesus out of me but the first time you won was such a rush. Such a fun game to play, thanks for the memories!
Right! Your so spot on! It was scary and this was a great game...
This game was something else as a kid. Thanks for putting this up. The sound effects made it.
Even with as far as games have come today, I'll still go back and play games like this. Recently got The Intellivision Lives for my Nintendo DS and was pleased to find this game on there. Thanx for posting this
This and Night Stalker were my favorite games.
Great to see this game again after all these years, it was one of my favourites.
My neighbor had this game, I was in awe of it. The soundtrack is so spares, it heightens everything.
This game man. Countless hours spent writhing in cold sweat. :-D
Il mio gioco preferito per intellivision, ci sono stato incollato per ore. Bei tempi quelli ;-)
Brings back memories .. over 20 years ago ... damn ... back in the day boy this is how we did it ... thanks bro

Amazing. Thanks so much for the trip down memory lane. Games aren't what they used to be!
I remember when my sister won this for the first time. We were inches from the TV, sound cranked so we could hear the dragons... then when she finally picked up the second half of the crown, we nearly blew the speaker out with that final sound. Scared the hell out of us as well.

Thanks for posting this! Brings back real good memories.
Man, this brings back my childhood! I used to think this game was so hard.
It was, if you played it on the harder levels! Those snakes and dragons were a hell of a lot quicker and you couldn’t outrun them. Good luck if you ran out of arrows.
Played this on a buddies machine back in the day...it was fantastic!
OMG!! this is stuff of my very young childish nightmares!!! loved this game ^_^
Thanks for posting. This brought back a lot of good memories.

I was obsessed with this game as a youngster. The way you'd get ambushed by creatures would actually give me butterflies in my stomach 😅😣
Thanks so much for posting this, I played ths game ALL the time when I was about six.
I just looked up the rarity of my games and found that apparently, my Tutankham game might be worth a few quid. Cool!
Thanks again for the vid- brought a tear to my eye. :)
A brilliant design all the more amazing for its simplicity and elegance..
Seemed so much harder when I was six. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I loved playing this in the 80s. It scared the crap out of me as well. Loved it. I wish I could play it again today. Games like this, Bruce Lee, etc.
Excellent post, great game. I just hooked up my '82 model this week with the Intellivoice. Retro Rules!
I used to rent this game all the time as a teenager, great time, congrats!!
i remember playing this game, it was scare for me. was 4 years old. saludos desde sinaloa mexico.

This game is decades before my time but i always thought it looked awesome. Can't even imagine how lit this was on release.

Watching Stranger Things and the old video games had me looking this game up. Thank you for this!! 😁
I haven't thought about this game since I played it when I was a kid, probably in the early to mid 80s. Wow. The memories!!
OH man this game was awesome!! thanks for the memory

Awesome game, this and Treasure of Tarmin. Brought back memories for me too. Thanks for posting!
I haven't seen or given this game any thought since the 80's. Well played.
I had my first exposure to D&D thanks to this game!

Very neat. Brings back a lot of childhood memories. Thanks!
I was one of the lucky ones to have an Intellivision as a kid. I loved this game and AD&D Treasure of Tarmin. That game took a little longer to play.
Hero mode was just ridiculous :) This has always been one of my favourite games too.
this game still owns. played this as a kid. still love it.

That was pretty funny. This game was so awesome (for the times). Really simple gameplay but so much fun.
My cousin Chris has this game and that's how we used to play it! I was just playing it on Level 4 last night. That's the true adrenaline rush.
Major props for mentioning Fellini! And I agree.
Lost my Intel2 system in a move along with this game and Treasure of Tarmin, vid brings back memories.
Brilliant -- played this when I was 13 in 83 -- cheers for trip down memory lane....anyone recommend a D&D game for a laptop nowadays??
This stirs up some serious nostalgia for a child of the 80s Sitting alone and freaked out in front of a shit tv compelled to push into the unknown against my better judgment. I love this game!
