  • Rocky Mountain Pipe Band's MSR performance from the 2022 North American Bagpipe Championships which took place on Saturday July 30, 2022 in Maxville, Ontario.

    The grade 2 band is from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
    The band placed 5th in the Grade 2 MSR competition and 6th overall.

    What was on the swan necks of their pipe bags? Was it to try to keep the reed temp stable from warmup to actual step-off??

      I think it's more generally to keep it stable whether it is in the shade or in direct sunlight.
      As you may know, the reed which plays the melody is at the end of that neck. It's pretty conceivable that air passing through there could heat up more than air going to the drones, which isn't ideal.
      Scottish Power had these on their pipes at the World Pipe Band Championships this year, and they sounded great!
