The point about not highlighting mechanic details is very spot on, especially in drawn out wars where things are being painted and repainted in different patterns for a multitude of reasons. There's no point either highlighting or not including a detail in the new pattern unless it would inhibit the function of that part if painted. It can also defeat the purpose of a camo pattern if there's showy offy bits disrupting the camo's ability to be a complete pattern that breaks your silhouette.
The part about the weapon being different is great too, not just for maintenance but also perhaps their original gun isn't working anymore so they're issued one from storage or from another suit in the meantime. Also applies to other things, perhaps an armor panel is repaired but there's not enough time to paint it from the stock manufactured color before it is sent on sorti, or the panel is salvaged from another suit and the patterns don't quite match.
Sorry, I'm just rambling, I love mak for pushing this kind of realistic inspired creativity or character in the Mecha genre where the military industrial complex arms conference scheme is the staple.

I think in the whole scheme of the Gundam franchise since it's inception and fan based garage kits that came out of fantastic folks like g systems, when someone analyzes the entire influence Gundam has had in everything from science fiction, the computer art field, the psychological influence has had such a deep meaning. That thanks to people like this man , history might hopefully salvage something redeemable of humanity before it's completely annihilated by space gods is exactly why I got interested in Gundam in about 1982. It was winter when the show aired and I followed intensely until years later seeing pictures of these trash metal junk,kit bashed versions of what would become the machine Krieger suits. Is something amazing. Great job you guys 👍
