This is a pleasure to listen to and Classic Fm don't regard brass to be good enough to play on their progs
I tried for years to get ClassicFM interested in Brass Band. I even managed to get a Wednesday Listener Concert of Brass Band back in 2003. When I collected my CDs they gave me a further 2 CDs 'as we won't have any use for them'. Still they persist in playing Padstow Lifeboat..the only bit of Brass Band music they have!
I gave up listening to Classic FM ages ago.
+Christopher Finch To be honest listening to some of their musical choices I don't think Classic FM is good enough for Top brass bands!!, try radio 2 or even sometimes radio 3
Yes.Hrard an old BDM recording of McCann playing Rusulka the other day on R3 morning. Was stunned as it was Rob Cowan! He even said on air he was going to buy the CD. Wow.
a mac. There is 2 hours on BBC Radio Yorkshire (I think) every Sunfay afternoon. I miss it because of rehearsal and food shopping! Can 'listen again' but never find time. Not got into online listening yet.

This is the second brass band I have heard who clearly play this too fast.
Marvellous musicians though they are i reckon they have eaten too much tripe and onions !
Sadly this is not the only piece that is played too fast. Many great bands want to show their provess, and in doing so do the music an injustice. This has become almost a meme for brass bands, as many bands are capable of performing pieces at the same level or better than many symphonic orchestras, yet don't. The focus on competitions, playing faster and better than other bands, is a blessing and a curse. Many bands get inspired and improve, but in turn often focus on making music into tests.
@@TomPls A very astute comment sir. I agree as an ex conductor of a Championship Brass Band for several years in the past Yet the Technique is very spellbinding and this Overture is an Orchestral Show piece anyway. This performance is certainly florid dynamic exuberant and breathtaking in every sense and certainly shows off the bands technical prowess.
