They got accused of being 'Too Westernised' plus it's part of the Love Yourself Trilogy of albums where they look at the Shadow, Ego and Personna. So if you notice they used a lot of South Korean Reference's within the lyric's and the beats are a mix of South Korean drum beats and Afro beats. There's a lot of reference to South Korean Traditional clothes and mythology like the Rabbit in the moon, the white Tiger, even some of the odd dance barrel leaps there's more in the MV. The fabric for their colourful suits are African fabrics. Notice Pegoda, Modern Hangbok clothes and Jimin's huge Korean orange fan. In the live version at an award show Jimin uses that Fan to do a traditional fan dance for the intro to IDOL. They use many heads thats part of them saying there are many sides to us we have many Persona's and notice the lyrics about you call me Artist you call me IDOL . They are saying we don't care what labels you use to try to belittle us you aren't going to stop us loving ourselves eg you won't win we know who we are and we know all the different parts of ourselves that make us who we are.
Yes! MMA 2018 (melon music awards) is amazing, they icorporated traditional instruments and traditional dance elements in their performance. And as a fun fact, they received 7 awards that night. 🙂

The song showed exactly how korean they were by incorporating korean instrumentals, Ulsoo which is a korean traditional saying, the hanboks, the korean imagery, the palace in the background, the jumping fan dance, everything was korean. A slap to everyone who said BTS was too westernized.

It was during the pandemic so they recorded a live vocal performance in Seoul at Gyeongbokgung Palace, a heritage site and they are wearing a modern version of the traditional hanbok.
