    I just completed a shower stall using these exact same pebble tiles on the pan. It never occurred to me to remove them from the webbing and set them individually. It certainly made for a cleaner, more attractive look around the perimeter, as well as the drain. It especially would have looked better on the feature strip, which the client also wanted them used for..

    I did these exact pebbles, but if you just lay out the pebble mats in the center, and then use individual pebbles on the edges and around the drain, it is even faster. Still no cuts, but you don't have to lay every single pebble.

    I'm doing flat cut pebbles and using ARDEX WA epoxy grout / adhesive.. I did a test piece with all the different types of pebbles and worked dam good little pricey but I'll sleep well at night. Also did one application of sealer before installing and will do one application may two so I'll have 3 I'll be using epoxy grout.

    I have a shower floor that is uneven pebbles almost impossible to remove - I was going to use self-leveling over the top of it to even out but the drain is in the middle and it needs to drain grade into that. I am using a sort of penny tile with different-sized circles to go over the top so it can move on the uneven surface. Not sure how to handle prep to lay the tile - suggestions?

  • @ironfreak7270
    @ironfreak7270 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sal when I did my pebble floor I
    pressed down and some thinset came through the grout areas a tad. I did not use a ton of thinset but maybe extra for more adhesion.
    Should I grout the areas I can and not sweat it ? I think in some counties they actually use thinset as grout..

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is quite common, it is best to clean it out as you set the tile, the next day will also be quite easy to scrape out, but the longer you leave it the harder it becomes as the thinset will cure and strengthen. It should be removed so that you don't see any thinset trough the grout.

    • @jonhopkins2648
      @jonhopkins2648 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also good idea to match grout with thinset aka lighter grouts white thinset dark grouts grey thinset an black grout have a million buckets of water on the go and a lot off patience

  • @tb9041
    @tb9041 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it a good or bad idea to seal all the stones, front and back before installation? I read they must be sealed, but since you have them all pealed off the mesh, I was wondering if you could just soak them all in a bucket of sealer and then let them dry and then install them?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With most sealers, it is not a good idea to seal the back of the tile. but some will work.

    Hi Sal! I have 2 questions
    I’m a home DYI gal and I love your videos! As we’ve been tiling I’ve been telling my hubby “Sal says...” lol. I am about to grout our wood look bathroom/walk in closet tile. My back is killing me.
    How do you do it without pain??
    I’m about to pebble the shower floor and my pebbles look just like these in this video. I’m wanting to do the shower niches and a vertical, floor to ceiling strip (10”wide) along the shower handle and head with the pebbles too. Would it look good to do those just like you did here? Taking them off of the backing and not cutting?
    Thanks?

    Good morning Sal 🌄
    Thank you for your videos. I feel I am not alone, as I begin my first tile job.
    Tell me Sal, with a 1/4"×1/4" trowel, (any job actually), how far do I need to press the tile into the adhesive? Should it bottom out on the pan or wall, pressing out mostly all the adhesive? How do I judge how much to press it in? Just enough to collapse the ridges?
    Thanks, John, Quebec.

    • @pg-erk3938
      @pg-erk3938 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should press and move the tile with decent force but you dont need to over do it. To make sure you sre doing it right you can check your coverage on the back of a tile after you set it. Pop it up with a margin trowel and you want to see thinset stuck to the back of the tile all over basically 100% of the tile. It should have stalagmites (icicle looking/mountainy points) also the tile should kinda hold and not just pop up with ease.

    I find with pebble mosaic tiles often I have to come back and remove a bunch of pebbles and replace them for ones that close up joints and make overall look better, don't be afraid of changing them to get a much tighter look.
