- A documentary about the making of the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz with original commercials, hosted by Angela Lansbury, with original commercial. This special aired on February 20 1990.
I once had The Wizard of Oz on DVD. This documentary was one of the special features. I watched this documentary more than the actual movie.
@@christopherparrisjr.3146 There's nothing to watch it but it's better to see the movie 🎥 the doc is good but you need to watch the movie 🎥

Similarly, I have the DVD set of all five original _Planet of the Apes_ movies. The thing I watch the most out of it is the documentary _Behind the Planet of the Apes._ 🙂
the wizzard oz is now 85 years old , hard to believe it is almost 100 years old
Wizard. 🙂
I can't believe it but everyone that was in the movie 🎥 is gone...Actors,costars,producers, directors,writers...etc Jerry Maren was the last one to go at 98
A timeless film that will never get old.
@@garycarpenter6433 No, there are still some of the children who acted as "auxiliary Munchkins" for wide shots of the city, and of course there's Judy Garland's stand-in, Caren Marsh Doll, who as of a few months ago is 105 years young!
@@MaskedMan66 Okay that's nice to know TY for the info
This is a great documentary. I remember loving it when it first aired in 1990, and I still do. What drives me CRAZY is when they keep re-releasing the movie on DVD and BluRay and refer to this "ALL-NEW Making-Of documentary" as an extra. It's almost 35 years old now!!! No credit against its quality (it's terrific) but it's hardly "ALL-NEW"!
This Documentary Appeared On The 1999 VHS Of The Wizard Of Oz, It Also Appeared On The DVD, And Blu-Ray Releases Of The Wizard Of Oz.
I remembered taping the special off tv 34 years ago when I was 8
Do you still have it?
@@BUPMY1
Nope
I have the 1990 recording as well (off of WJBK) but was never sure of the exact date of recording. I knew it was early in the year, as there's a PSA for the 1990 Census during the first commercial break. Also when TV 2 would identify every half-hour, they showed both the time and temperature, and the warmest it was that night was 24 degrees. This would appear to confirm the date. Thank you for that!
Finally remembered to watch this and definitely remember this from back in the day.
I remember watching this documentary at the end of the vhs tape copy of the wizard of oz in 1997 or 1998
I remember this movie and it's one of my favorite movies. RIP ANGELA LANSBURY!
Same. I try to re-watch it every year! It is a classic with timeless lessons to be learned!
Edit: RIP to that Queen! I loved Miss Lansbury in MSW, a bunch of animated classics, and Mrs. Pollifax :)
I have this special on my OZ DVD
@@xXLunatikxXlulPlus she was Miss Price from Bedknobs and Broomsticks
@@garycarpenter6433 Yess! I just recently watched that in April, such a pleasant story with an amazing cast, to boot! Miss Price rivalled that of Mary Poppins :)
@@xXLunatikxXlul I have it on video tape and I've seen it several times and I still love it
I love those Ruby slippers Judy is so lucky
CBS should have done a TV movie in 1989 about the making of the film with Alissa Milano as Judy Garland, Beverly Archer as Margaret Hamilton, Richard Mulligan as Frank Morgan, Harvey Korman as Victor Fleming, Mark Linn Baker as Ray Bolger, Nathan Lane as Jack Haley and Victor Garber as Bert Lahr.
I don't see any of those people in any of those roles. Mark you, Nathan Lane did play the Cowardly Lion in _The Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Come True._ Now, in 2001 there was a miniseries called _Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows,_ co-produced by Lorna Luft and based on her same-titled memoir which featured a sequence involving the filming of the movie. It featured Tammy Blanchard as Judy, Phillip MacKenzie as Victor Fleming, Noah Henne as Ray Bolger, James Kall as Jack Haley, and Michael B. King as Bert Lahr. Victor Garber was elsewhere in the series as Sid Luft.
That would be interesting to see

And I take it this was before an encore presentation of Wizard?
Yes. CBS dedicated its entire Primetime slot for the 50th anniversary

Nope. One little girl trying to get home.
@@maltesemommabark5147 The wicked Witch wants them since they were her sisters
@@garycarpenter6433 No, she wants them so she can use their power to take over Oz. She doesn't give a fig about her dead sister.

@@garycarpenter6433 No, she wants them because of the power they contain. She couldn't give a (winged) monkey's about her dead sister.
🤓Actually in 1990 it was 51 🤓
“She wasn’t pretty, she was plump. But in a way, she was beautiful.”
Awe, the way all women hope to be described as some day..
What's your problem?
But there's only one problem her mom and the studio made her lose weight and she had to start smoking
@@garycarpenter6433 Wrong. "Her mom and the studio" didn't have anything to do with her weight loss, which was in the hands of her dietician and her stunt double, who also acted as her personal trainer. Turns out Judy was, in fact, very athletic, and could swim a mile. And she did not smoke at that time in her life; in fact, she was against it. But for some reason, she took up the habit as an adult.
@@MaskedMan66 It was said that they wouldn't let her eat just to maintain her weight at one point she was eating (I think) chocolate cake 🍰 and they took it away from her
@@garycarpenter6433 Nope. That's all ridiculous rumor which, when you think about it, doesn't even make any sense.
