- So apparently to get all 6 keys in the Punchout you have to finish off every phase of the fight with a 3-star super. Pretty simple.

Lord of the jammed probly sees the Rat room/defeated rat as a "Cutscene" that is something they wanted you to see, or read, so the Lord of jammed isn't agroing you, so you don't feel pressured to just bail.
Also, RIP R.R. he did so well.

So i’ll explain how the rat keys are earned
You get one for starting the fight
one for each round of the fight you end with a star punch (3 in total)
one for finishing the fight
and one if you ended all three punchout rounds with a three-star punch
No you just need one super punch I tried it out whit one and I still got one key and three at the end

Writers in a nutshell
I think I've gotten to the point where, if a run is going badly due to poor items and bad guns, I can pay the Rat a visit and actually get away with it. The synergy that you get with his items can really save a run.
Imo they should nerf the rewards from the rat chests because they're way too strong, even considering the amount of work it takes to get to the Rat
Well, in your opinion, how would the items be nerfed? In my opinion, the Elimentaler seems to be the most overpowered item of the bunch, seeing as enemies can only really stand still and accept being cheesed. I think the effort put in to get to the Rat and beating him seems fair enough. I'd argue that because players can get better over time when facing the Rat, he becomes easier and therefore, his rewards become easier to obtain.
I remember the early days of facing him. He was such a pain, but after facing him many times, his patterns have become much easier to read, and I can now usually get away with only getting hit around three times during the entire boss fight. What about players who haven't been able to beat him yet? I read a Reddit thread that stated that they wanted to make it so that after beating the Rat for the first time and opening the chests, the items could be random after every other encounter. I disagree with this, as it would make getting the synergy, a reward for beating the Rat in the first place, be much more random and difficult to do.
If this were to happen, however, make it so that the Rat chests only contain S-Tier items in return, or maybe some additional loot alongside the Rat Items, but of varying tiers. Why not have two sets of chests, one set being the Rat Chests, and the other being chests that could hold random items inside of them, but they would be of a guaranteed tier? I'd love being able to get a Clone or Clover much more often. Heck, even a Yari Launcher would be nice.
I personally would like to see the Elimentaler nerfed by either making its ammo limited or making the encheesing effect chance-based (similar to explosive rounds and things like that) so it would be less frequent. Another idea would be to make the gun cursed.
I also think that the partially-eaten cheese should be nerfed because not only does it provide frequent invincibility, it also allows you to insta-kill a lot of enemies with just one use. The best way to make it weaker would probably be to make the recharge take significantly longer or to reduce the duration of the effect.
With changes like this I think that the Rat items would still be worth it while also not giving the player as easy of a win.
I also agree that the first times you fight the Rat the rewards feel more justified than once you're used to the attacks. That idea from the reddit thread is pretty bad, yeah.
What if, after a certain amount of Rat kills, it would become harder to get access to the Rat items. For example: Having to complete the fight without taking more than a certain amount of hits to get a chance at obtaining the keys in the punchout. Or alternatively the punchout could become more difficult the more you beat it (I really like the punchout too so having its difficulty upped with time while also making the fight more interesting would be really nice imo).
I do like the idea of another set of chests so you could choose between the rat gear and random high-tier drops but I'm not sure if this would solve the issue of the rewards being too strong completely.
Index 154 I would agree with the nerfs to the Elimentaler and the Partially-Eaten Cheese. Those are nerfs I could agree with even if I didn't want them. However, I disagree with making the Rat fight harder over time, but only partially. It would be nice if it got harder to fight him, yes, but then you'd be putting in more effort for the same end rewards over and over again.
If you're going to make the Rat fight harder with each successful battle, why not make it so that the items that he has a chance of dropping during the Punch-Out segment are better? Maybe not S-Tier items throughout the fight, but B and A grade items, while adding an additional S-Tier item being added to the other S-Tier item when you land the last Super Punch. Something that justifies the increased difficulty with the fight. (For reference, when you defeat the Rat with a Super Punch in the game currently, he is guaranteed to drop one S-Tier item.)

As someone who has beaten punch out for the wii and has yet to get to this boss (I have beaten the high dragun and unlocked the bullet) this boss seems like a mix of soda popinski and bald bull.
He has a little of von kaiser with the Casey attack when a new round starts

Press X (controller) or spacebar (keyboard) when the rat's at low health and you have stars. You can do a super any time, rat can't block it but it doesn't really do anything special unless you score a knockout with it.
timing is the key to charge the 3 star punch. I had to go through all the trouble just to fight the rat again and I can't even do it right in punch out mode.
Or you can bring lockpick the drill two open two locks and hope one chest is a mimic to open all locks with four keys
You only need one star per phase from my experience.
For 5 keys, that is, yes. For the sixth one you need 3 per phase

Every time you hit with a special does it spawn items or if you let the rat keep healing itself does it eventually stop giving items.
I think the item drops are mainly based on how far you get in the fight. I've never had him drop more than 5 or maybe 6.
As for pickups, I think these are also limited in number. But even if they weren't, it wouldn't be worth waiting out the fight
It could in theory drop unlimited items, but because there’s a countdown you won’t able to get much

Punchout speedrunners should implement buffer methods to the gungeon rat battle, so i can copy it and beat him. Cuz aint no way im doing it normally, i have sloth reaction time

I second this. I've managed to get two keys once, and I don't even remember how I did it.
This is just on paper cuz I haven't done the rat at all yet, but based on the video I think you want to duck all his attacks (except spin attacks, you block those) and punch when he leaves himself open
Yeah the duck move is what you use for most attacks. Blocking is also useful as long as you don't overdo it. To get enough keys you want to finish off every round of the fight with a super move.
Can you do a sort of step by step guide for this fight? I would greatly appreciate it!
Actually, I know someone who is working on a full-size guide that will include how to get to the fight and how to do well in it. I'll tell you when that video is done (unless I forget, oof)

Well. I mean it's possible even without getting all six keys. Just a lot more unlikely since you need to get the Weird Egg drop.

also, high curse level (or Mimic Tooth Necklace) might be helpfull, as chests become mimics, as well as lockpick and drill (to open chests without keys) and Bloodied scarf (access to snake without using 2 keys)
At the most you need is 4 With also having Bloodied Scarf

There are 4 special chests in the next room you can open with them. There's a shortcut to the fifth floor you can use one key for to open and there is a secret room you can use two keys on to open which will allow you to fight the other new boss

Penguin of Power any time you punch the rat while he’s glowing yellow, you get a star. You need atleast 1 star to use the super, more stars = more damage, and you drop all stars if you take damage.

It was a missed content opportunity. And your response to this observational criticism is why I will not be staying as subscriber.
I'll admit that my first reply was dumb, I just kind of assumed that a majority of my viewers would already have seen my first video of the rat fight because that was what got my channel so much attention in the first place and that one shows me using 5 keys. Also, the full video of this run (the next video I uploaded) shows me using the six keys.
