    💌 about me: my name is Elysse, I'm 22 years old from the southern U.S. I've been learning languages for about 8 years, and I speak English (native), Spanish (C2), German (B2/C1), Portuguese (B2), French (B1/B2), American Sign Language (advanced), and Turkish (A1). I'm interested in learning Hebrew, Chinese, Georgian, and maybe Náhuatl as well :)

      Schools often dosen't help because of focusing on punishing for mistakes. For example by giving negative grades which is usually something that you want avoid no matter what because "your future is at stake" or at least that's how it looks in Poland.
      How school systems (I mean especially grading system) look in your countries?
      Edit: maybe rating system is more correct but I have no idea in this situation... Sorry for makeing some people's ayes bleed, lol

    definitely make a video about thinking in a new language! that would be very interesting
    i find translating literally better for learning, but you also have to remember the non-literally nuances like you say at the end

    Well. While Elysse records the video at midnight, I watch it at midnight after a LL session. My biggest mistake, for the record, was to take for granted writing, which is such a powerful tool to enhance other aspects of a language, like vocabulary, by searching for synonyms.

    I have a frustrating experience. Not knowing where to begin or hitting a plateau can feel demoralizing and make it hard to hit the books and study like you know you should…Having friends from other cultures makes me more creative. In fresh ways about space and how people create their own world and environment. It is best way to connect between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships.

    If it's too hard for you to stop being a perfectionist then try seeing it this way: Every type of personality will have an upper hand or advantage related to achieving one the 4 primary virtues, Prudence, Justice, Temperance and Fortitude (Courage). Perfectionists tend to achieve Prudence easier but not Courage, while in Extroverts/Care-free people the opposite happens.

    Hi dear Elysse! I would like your advice on German grammar, if you can offer some suggestions. I find it is definitely difficult... am I just too dumb or something >.< How do you keep these rules together, it's the most difficult language I've encountered in terms of grammar ( well....aside from Polish and Hungarian but I gave up on those! ) I'm taking a German class now and find the dative / akkusative changes to be so hard...well, any thoughts you have I'm glad to hear!

    Yes, please do a video about not translating everything in your head. I lived in Germany for one year (I'm in an English speaking PhD program) before I realized that people actually THINK in their other language. Now that I'm aware that I'm supposed to think in my target language, I don't know how to make myself do that.

    • @KingsKeep
      @KingsKeep ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The best way to do that is to start to literally think of what you see in that target language. For example, if you see a slice of bread on a plate, think of bread in your target language instead of immediately thinking of the word in your native language. Apply the process of words you understand in your target language to all objects you see and verbs performed. Do this on a daily basis and you will soon hear yourself speaking in another language automatically.

    • @keti.rg.editzzz
      @keti.rg.editzzz ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should emerse yourself in the language for instance listen to German music, watch movies in German, read books in German, and try only talking in German after awhile you will automatically think in German

    • @KingsKeep
