      @Artemio Medina it’s not worth $150. the t2 is overinflated as well, but at least it has zeiss glass and is titanium. the l35 is plastic and the af isn’t great. it’s overpriced.

      @Artemio Medinaif you wanna justify spending $150+ on a hunk of plastic be my guest, i’m just saying the price is overly inflated. if you like it, great. i just wouldn’t spend more than $40 on one

    That "Pikaichi" 2.8 lens is something special man. I have one, thinking about selling it tho for mad cash, as I never use it anymore shooting medium format. I know I'm gonna regret it, but it's better in the hands of someone of the younger generation. A tip for the flash: If it pops up and you don't want to use the flash, pop it back down and leave your finger on the top of it and take the picture. It won't wreck the flash or anything. I've been doing that with mine for 5+ years and it's still going strong.

  • @willprice7475
    @willprice7475 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Another lovely bit about this one, the metering is done by the lens, so if you put a filter on the camera will compensate for it. And if you want to override the flash, when it pops up, just hold it down and the camera will open up as wide as it can. It's a slick little brick overall.

    • @vhfgamer
      @vhfgamer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you don't have any filters and want to trick the metering anyways, aim it at something darker or lighter than your actual subject, hold the shutter half way to set the metering, and then aim and shoot at your target.

    I just picked this camera up at a yard sale because I like older camera for their look. So I wasn't too disappointed that it doesn't seem to work but after finding that many people think it's really a super camera, I thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately I can't get it to work. The shutter release button doesn't work. I have put in good AA batteries in the right position, I turned the Off/On button to On, but it does nothing. Do I need to have it loaded with film first? Any suggestions?

    ProTip: If you're shooting B&W, try contrast filters like Yellow, Orange, or Red! The light meter sensor is not TTL, but is near the lens, so it automatically compensates for any filter.

    • @mpk33
      @mpk33 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yellow with HP5 or Tri-X for that pop.

    • @jenjnfr
      @jenjnfr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do the coloured filters do for the b&w film? Does it add certain warmth tones to it? I’ve been wanting to try colour filters for mine

    • @jklphoto
      @jklphoto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jenjnfr no, they dont "warm" the image, since we're speaking of B&W film. They selectively change the contrast. A red filter creates a very dark sky (when it's blue). Orange a bit less, yellow even less. A green filter blocks green light, making trees lighter. Lots of folks habitually use a yellow filter with B&W film all the time. BTW, this only works with B&W film or a Monochrom digital sensor.

    • @jklphoto
      @jklphoto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jenjnfr my point in bringing it up was that this camera has a non-ttl light sensor, adjacent to the lens, eliminating the need to calculate a filter-factor for exposure.

    • @jenjnfr
      @jenjnfr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jklphoto thanks for that, as I’m new to film I don’t know very much so that’s very helpful I appreciate it! Will definitely keep all that in mind for when I try coloured lens filters on b&w 👍🏻

    Great video. If you want to override the flash, you hold it down and it’ll revert to slower shutter speeds. Yep the power switch and self timer switch are the weak points of the camera, so try not to use them too often. My L35AF has good contrast... maybe yours might be under exposing?

    • @JP1050x
      @JP1050x 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Larry McCormick yep, the L35AF (version 1) was the best one made. I own a dozen version 1’s. Yep, it’s common for folks to have problems with the plastic battery doors. I’ve never had a problem with mine though, and I’ve never had to use tape. It helps to find one with a metal battery door tab at the end, which is more secure than the plastic tab version. The L35AF (ver. 1) came with two battery door types, as well as ISO 400/1000 versions.
      I’ve never had a problem with the shutter button with any of mine either. The issue is with the on/off locking switch, which loses tension over time. I just keep mine in the “on” position with no issues, which doesn’t drain batteries. The plastic self timer switch tends to crumble internally, so they are more like time bomb switches that will break with use. I try to avoid to use the self timer.
