That is correct, the teams used the Coandă effect with the exhaust gases following the contours of the body work to either energize the rear diffuser flow or increase the flow differential of the rear wing and the Y250 mid-plane wing as well.

Fun fact: the upward-swept "zoomie" headers on Top Fuel dragsters actually function like rocket engines. At wide open throttle, those 500-cubic inch (8.2L) supercharged V8s spin up to 8,500rpm, cramming air into the cylinders at 65psi above atmospheric pressure (which is insanely high even for a modern ball-bearing turbocharger spinning at well over 200,000rpm, let alone a belt-driven Roots blower), along with 1.5 gallons of 90/10 nitromethane/methanol blend fuel per second. These engines see mean effective pressures up to 1,450psi and power figures in the neighborhood of 11,000hp. Technically it's not a suction effect, it's the air above the car that pushes it down. Great video, thanks to Scott and Scarbs for the great explanations. Happy new year to all of you!
I'm not going to get into an argument about it but it is absolutely about the car being "sucked" down, not being "pushed" down that creates downforce. Basically F1 cars use the principles that enable planes to fly in reverse. Intuitively it would seem they are being pushed down but they are actually being "sucked" to the ground. This is the way these principles described work, otherwise pushing air flow at the bottom of the rear would create the opposite effect of "pushing" the car upward and, thus, decreasing downforce
@@batman9823 Physically speaking there is no suction force. There is a pressure differential and the high pressure area pushes towards the low-pressure side. Which makes it look like suction, but it isn't. But the point is moot anyway because we're both talking about the same thing: le downforce

To me they killed F1 with this incessant anti-fun approach. Give us the totally unrestricted monsters of performance we would have without any rules and get rid of the anti-racing stuff like ABS etc.
The idea of keeping engine airflow up without accelerating by retarding the timing to such a degree that combustion essentially occurs within the exhaust, which further fuels the aerodynamic effect of the exhaust design is utter brilliance. The fuel efficiency argument is reasonable, I guess, but it's still lame that all the clever ways teams find more speed within the regulations end up being banned.
Your description of the pressure difference above and below the car (commonly referred to as longer path theory) is a common misconception people often associate with how planes fly as well. Ignoring the chassis for a moment, the front and rear wing of the car are airfoils (wings on a plane are also airfoils, but in the case they are being used for downforce rather than lift). The assumption you're using assumes that two air particles from the atmosphere separate at the leading edge of the airfoil and then join up at the tailing end. Since one air particle has a longer path, it must have higher velocity, and thus a lower pressure. We cannot assume that the air particles will meet up again at the tail end of the airfoil, as this is not a realistic assumption. Also if this were true, symmetrical airfoils would not produce any lift. Downforce (and lift) is generated from redirecting or turning the airflow. In the case of the F1 car, the air hits the leading edge of the airfoil and is directed upwards as it moves along. The airfoil exerts an upwards force on the air and the air exerts an equal and opposite downwards force on the airfoil. The product of this interaction is downforce. I apologize if I am coming across as condescending to anyone, but I am just seeking to provide more accurate information to people
By 2014 they made sure there'll be no form of exhaust blowing of the diffuser by moving the exhaust aperture to the center and top of the rear bulk head of the cars.
I hate how rules change to slow cars down. There should just be a displacement rule, 4 wheels and height, width, length, weight and tweak it once every 3 years.

I heard Romain Grojean talking to Nico Rosberg i think that you had to keep the gas pinned to want the grip and they could not lift in the fast Conners cause they lost a lot of down force
How much flow pressure/velocity was needed to be beneficial? Ignoring weight penalties so for conceptual sake only, could you rig a system that charges during braking or even tap off the exhaust to charge it and can be activated that releases air either through spring charged compressor to fill a mini tank of air or just spin a turbine/blade to send flow where it needs to be?
There was a period in the early 2000s when they directed their exhaust upward to create more downforce too.

These were the BEST sounding F1 cars
Believe in JESUS today, confess and repent of your sins. No one goes to heaven for doing good but by believing in JESUS who died for our sins. “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. ”(Romans 10:9-10)❤️

Me, having class at December 31st, 3pm:
Well... i dont have time...
I heard Romain Grojean talking to Nico Rosberg i think that you had to keep the gas pinned to want the grip and they could not lift in the fast Conners cause they lost a lot of down force

RIP Blown diffusers. ❤
F- for respect.
They should make different things like this not illegal so that teams can work on this and it’s one more challenge as the sport goes on
It’s like god mode on the type r’s SI’s ST’s etc …
what about 2012 and 2013 the coanda effect of blowing while directing around diffuser? video is incomplete
Using a Minardi for the thumbnail of a video about extra downforce is kind of ironic xD Happy New year
looking forward to what new things we will see in 23, so much potential
How much flow pressure/velocity was needed to be beneficial? Ignoring weight penalties so for conceptual sake only, could you rig a system that charges during braking or even tap off the exhaust to charge it and can be activated that releases air either through spring charged compressor to fill a mini tank of air or just spin a turbine/blade to send flow where it needs to be?
"Like every good innovation in F1, the FIA found a way to ban it" Lmaoooo
