This was one of the earliest arcade games I remember playing back in the 80s, it was so cool and fun!! I never really got that far alone in the arcade back then. Thank you for your comment!
I played this to bits...spent most my paper round money on it I'm.trying to make a game based on this .."defender" ...and "asteroids" "Scramble" still friggin awesome....
Cool, I had a paper route in the early 80's also. I really hated having to go and "collect" payments, it was the worse part, people would see me coming and hide,... OH ALL of my money went into Donkey Kong. Thank you for the comment!
I remember going into Larkins shop in Letterkenny, County Donegal; Ireland, sometime in 1981 and seeing this sitting by the door... I played it every day on my school lunch break .. .wasted a fortune of 10p pieces ha ha!
When this was in our local supermarket i watched one kid get all the way round three times. I never even got to the end once. It was still my favourite game though....until R-type came out.
@@StevesRetroGaming If I remember correctly on the actual arcade version players got an extra life every 10,000 points. I think this kid took more than three lives. He was good - but not that good. ; - )
I remember when I was chasing after my neighbors house cat named Joldie. I was definitely copying/mimicking, impersonating Donkey Kong. I also wanted Craig Ferguson to see that I put Donkey Kong Jr. together with Garfield Arbuckle, the comic strip house cat. 🦍 🦧 🐵 🐒 🐼 🐨 🐈 😻 🐈⬛️ 😺 🐱 😸 🐈 🏠 🫏 🤣 😆 😂 😄 😅 🫏
Really hard this one. I liked the staying a head and then pull a diagonal all the way. Really hard work with that joystick. But it was unique right. Vertex had a really good version on this that I think I liked better. Or was better at perhaps 😜
This game is very hard, I got killed so many times, I am super impressed by ANYONE that can go from start to end boss on three lives! Then I couldn't even remember how to kill the end boss. Argh
YES, it was a quarter assassin in the arcades, I know I put alot of quarters in the machine back in the day, BUT rarely got to state 3 - Luckily in Mame I had alot of lives to get to the end. BUT if anyone can get to the end stage on 3 lives, I bow to them - Thank you for the comment!
I am pretty sure you will not lose a life after you destroy the base even if you crash. Toward the later levels, you do not have enough fuel to clear the tower after the base anyway. th-cam.com/video/R_zO5pZJOjU/w-d-xo.html
WOW, did that person even lose a life? I lost so many, love the game, but it's pretty hard if you ask me. It one one of the first games I played alot in the arcades back in the early 80's. Wasn't very good at it back then either. Thank you for the comment!
Definitely in my top five arcade games when I was growing up. Going through that fuel tank tunnel was a BEAR.

Another one of my favorite 1981 arcade games. I put a ton of quarters into this one. But man does this get HARD, rel HARD in those 'tunnel' levels.

I actually live streamed myself playing this game. It's freaking hard and I suck at it lol. I need more practice on this one.
Is it on your channel? I should watch it. The game is very hard - Thank you for the comment!

Ha! Piece of cake compared to Defender!
