  • Just some tasting, and growing bit's of 1 of the greatest tasting fruit in the world. Achacha, Achachairu, Garcinia Humilis.
I've come to realise the Achacha is 1 of my best performing trees. Semi fast growing (a lot faster then other Garcinia varieties) Very low maintenance. Easily cold tolerant in my subtropical climate. Can grow in cooler climates down to 0 degrees Celsius. Likes water and humidity but can withstand long dry periods.
Small plant's I've grown from seed can also withstand a few weeks without rain. Once watered will bounce back quickly. Much hardier then most other Garcinia's.
Takes approx 8years to fruit. Can get grafted varieties but they are very hard to come by and will cost you a pretty penny if you find one.

Wow I have been wanting to grow it in my front yard. It is so hard to find the seeds here in Indonesia. Nice content. I almost feel the fruit. The way you explain it though. I just love it.

Thank you :) Good luck finding it. Indonesia has so many fruit varieties I'm sure you'll find it somewhere in your beautiful country.

Your achachairu is growing really well. Did you grow it from seed? How far south are you in QLD?

Thank you. No I purchased this one a couple years ago. I have since grown around 100 Achacha seedlings. They are so easy to grow. 1 of my seedlings is growing super fast, so will probably plant that one in grown as well. I'm in Brisbane.

Thank you for this! Excited to find a home for my baby tree here in Florida! What happens if the temperature goes slightly below 0 C for a short time? Occasionally there are rare cold snaps here.. wondering if the tree will die or if it would come back ?

I've found them to be very hardy, so if there is dieback I'm sure it'll bounce back. Maybe protect it with plastic over the cold snaps for the 1st few years then see how it goes. Good luck :)

Have you tried growing these in pots? Ordered one online but not sure if I should put it in the ground or not. Heard they don't do well in winter and scared of it dieing when it's not established yet.

Yes they do very well in pots, but they are a big tree in 10years time so have to think about that. They are pretty cold hardy, just don't like frost/freezing temperatures.

I never knew you can make tea with the skin. Very cool. Your Achacha tree looks great! I have one too but its half that size. Love the video👍🏼

Where can you buy the fresh fruit from in Brisbane?

A few of the specialty fruit shops around town. Charlies fruit market, Inala shopping mall have 2 or 3 venders selling them. I've seen them at Garden City fruit shop. The season has just ended though, you'll have to wait till next crop end of year.
