    I use murphy soap for dismounting and I use Frey lube for mounting . Frey Lube is a grease that does not damage rubber.. It offers lubrication while mounting but it dries to a slight sticky consistency so that the tire won't slip on the bead, yet dismounting years later say on a heavy Truck tire makes it easy. It prevents corrosion on the steel or aluminum rim .

    Thanks so much! I like your positive attitude and professionalism! My Ninja 250 service manual says to always replace the air valve when changing tires. I can't seem to find much information about this on the internet. Is this necessary? Don't they cost like $15? And, the terminology is confusing me. Is the air valve both the valve stem and the valve core? If I have to replace it, are there different sizes for motorcycles (both the core and the stem)? Also, my service manual uses a certain type of wheel weight. Is it necessary to get OEM weights, or will any do? I know these questions are probably elementary, but this is my first motorcycle. Thanks again!

    Hey, my tire did not pop twice when i was filling it up to set the beads. Does it mean i have to take it off again, and re-fit? Does it always have to clearly pop 2 times after you've fitted it on?

    • @kirkkw
      @kirkkw 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it does not need to pop. Sometimes the bead seats without the loud pop. The 2 pops were one from each side. Don't worry about the pop - examine the tire and wheel and make sure the tire is in the same position relative to the wheel all the way around on BOTH sides of the tire.

    2 points.
    1 You slide the tyre lever out while its still trapped between the rim and tyre. This can damage the rim.
    2. You lube the outer beads but none on the edge inside the tyre. Lube that and it rides over the tyre machine a lot better when you get to the second bead.

    Had a new tire put on at a local shop and not long after the tire went flat. I found it leaking at the bead. Is this common? The shop has since closed so I’ll have to take it somewhere else. What could cause this? It’s the exact same tire that I had on there.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to remove the tire to determine the cause of the leak. It is possible they tore the bead when they installed it which would not allow the tire to seal. - Van

    Yellow dot indicates lightest point on tire, should be lined up with valve stem, (heaviest point on wheel) red dot indicates lowest point on tire, (run out) should be at highest runout point on wheel, red dot has highest priority.

  • @websolutions6117

    My service manual says to take the brake disc off when changing a tire. Is this necessary? One should always take the sprocket off, right?

    • @kirkkw
      @kirkkw 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't know what bike you have and whether you are referring to the front or back wheel. Generally, you do not need to take a brake disc off as the tire machines are tall enough that the disc does not contact the tire machine table. That is the big difference between a auto tire machine and a motorcycle tire machine, i.e. the distance from the clamps to the table surface to avoid damaging the brake discs or drive pulleys.

    why is it so important to line the mark up with the valve stem, the reason I ask is I recently had a set fitted and a mate of mine commented that the marks on the tyre didn't line up thanks.

    • @theom-t855
      @theom-t855 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      (disclaimer I'm a mechanic) the mark which will often be on cars too is meant to do with the point when the tyre was being manufactured where the 2 ends of the tyre met, its actually not that important and won't make a difference to the tyre, bearing mind I'm probably changing about 10 tyres a day, don't worry about it
