Bruce, not getting that call is not your fault. He loved you and you were a great friend and he knew you loved him. You said it felt like you fucked up but you didn’t do anything wrong and you rock.
"We're not in a rush, Dude" Man although the age gap, and they bicker occasionally... Conrad and Bruce are close, and care about one another. The love Bruce had for Roddy is really apparent and tough to hear without dropping a few tears... He lost someone close, literally called Bruce before he left ... Crazy Amazing work as usual fellas.. But i truly love how close you 2 are
I had Roddy's 'thumb wrestler' 8n the 80s when I was little. Being Canadian/Scottish from Toronto, he was my hero. He still is. I miss him so much. Cheers Piper. Love ya. Hope you don't run out of bubblegum ever again. Thank you guys.
They Live is STILL a cult classic today. It's certainly before my time but it's still in the public consciousness for my generation - it's actually more relevant now than ever due to the social commentary of the film. 2008 rolled around and that film started to resonate all over again. "I'm here to chew bubblegum and kick ass - and I'm all - out - of bubblegum." Classic.
Bruce's story about meeting Roddy for wrestlemania brought memories flooding back with his imitation .thank you bruce...thats why I listen to every word of every episode
The Hot Rod! tee-shirt is one of the most iconic tee-shirts of all time, along with the Austin 3:16 & the black NWO tee-shirts. Those 3-shirts probably sold more shirts than everyone else combined. You still see people wearing all 3 of those shirts today.
Piper was the best. Met him on the book tour. Still have the signed book but lost the picture of us. It was in a folder with a few other things of importance that must have been lost during a move. Tore my place apart looking for it a few days after Piper died. Goblinko released a nice pin to commemmorate his life that I will keep.
From what I have seen and heard about the Pro-wrestling biz, especially in the old days, it was a lot like being in the service. There is a hell of a lot of camaraderie and you see each other at your best and worst. As a vet, I can tell you, a special bond builds when you are with people 24/7, you become close and it usually results in a bond that most folks on the outside will never understand. It seems to be the same way with pro wrestlers. And when you lose someone in that circle, it's like losing a member of your own family...and it hurts just as badly.
This is my favourite podcast. The end was tough to hear. I lost one of my best friends back in 2018 and can relate to what Bruce is feeling. My friend was also a massive wrestling fan and would have loved this podcast too.
Hot Rod left a huge mark in the business that is for sure. I thought Roddy mooning Rude would have led to a decent feud after he cost Rude the WWF Interconential Championship. It sucked that it only last till the Survivor Series. Last time I saw Piper before he passed was when he did the Legends House for the WWE network. That show was hilarious. Sucks that it never gotten a second season. Last overall appearance I remember making was on Afterbuzz TV when they had a panel that covered it and he was just as hilarious as he was always. He never lost a step. Ronda Rousey is doing a damn good job of carrying on the Rowdy moniker. Roddy would damn should be proud of her today.
@@phrasesinner its Piper....without him there would be no Mr Mchamahon because Piper got wrestlemania over. Also Vince was never stabbed multiple times.
I have a good friend who shared a locker room with Piper. They had a 15-20 minute conversation where my buddy was asking Roddy about things in his career, trying to pick his brain, and a few minutes in Piper says something along the lines of "I've been talking about myself for 30 years, I wanna hear about your career" and sure as shit, the rest of the time Piper was asking my friend about HIS wrestling career, listening intently. Whenever I think of Roddy I think of that story because I feel that it says volumes about the man, and I think of how wonderful it must have been to know him on a more intimate level. He sounds like he was one of the good ones.
best heel ever hands down...3rd grade in 84 85 we did pipers pit in class ...complete with coconut smash finish natch!!!...so many sat morning memories courtesy or rowdy....he showed no respect or reverence to anyone including a pop star ..his promos were unhinged....an icon of the 80s
1:35:57 Bruce mentions having talked to Marilyn Manson at one point. Does he ever elaborate on that in a future episode of the podcast? As a big fan of both pro wrestling and Marilyn Manson, I'm curious what they would have talked about.
The next time STWW has a Ask Bruce I would submit the question, I'm also interested but I don't have Twitter and I think that is the only way they answer questions
broke my heart when bruce cries. Can't help but wonder ,The 2-man show piper and bruce were planning - is that what is now something to wrestle? Bruce wanted to get into podcasting, here we are.
I still can't believe they even would of considered the OJ angle for Mania XI, that's one that you shouldn't even thought of let alone pitch and Vince actually liked that?!
Without Piper?Hogan and the company would not of reached the heights of Success they achieved.. Piper is in the same company as Guys like Flair,Andre,Savage,Dusty and Bruno..Piper played a Heel to the tee and people paid money to see him get his butt kicked..
People have been saying that bullshit for decades. Hogan could wrestle a loaf of bread and it would draw, back then. King Kong Bundy drew with Hogan, Earthquake, Paul Orndorf, Andre, and a ton of other heels. Hogan had success with almost everybody. At Wrestlemania One, Roddy could have been switched out with any heel and the same result would have happened. Piper was minor piece in the timeline that was Hulkamania.
Was it Nash who said in WCW in an unscripted shoot promo that Piper was 1 (type of pill) away from being brain dead....rough shit to get so real. Those old heads really got into a serious beef with guys like Nash Hall "Styxx" (xpac) shit got real on the mic at the live events
Bruce is such a BS’er and… is always “working” to some degree. It is shocking to hear him break at the end. Bischoff also choked up talking about Roddy. It goes to show how much Roddy really was the genuine guy behind the scenes that people say he was.
Bruce said if Michael Hayes made a noise when he walked, it would be "doot door doot." theres a little more to it I think. it's in an older episode, or listen to the 2 part Houston relief episodes
What the hell is wrong with you guys?? Piper took 2007-2008 off? Are you guys high? He came back on RAW on 2/15/07 to say he had beaten cancer, then went on to be on Raw on 6/11/07 which I believe was the Vince Jr. appreciation night, then he was on ECW 6/26/07....Then in 2008 he made an appearance in the Royal Rumble....that's not taking the year off. Then he was on Raw 779. 780, 781, 782, 783, 785 Smackdown 459, Raw 805, and Cyber Sunday '08.... (eye roll) You guys just totally blew past all this completely.
You guys also blew it completely with the Kevin Nash story. This was a tag match between Piper and Flair vs Hall and Nash the Nitro before the Great American Bash tag match for the world title. They had agreed not to start the match hot, leaving them no where to go during the PPV. Roddy went out and just went straight at Nash, so Nash was hot after the match and got in Rod's face - and there was an altercation.
Worked with Piper in 2001-2003, designed and ran rowdyroddypiper.com - Lots of great memories of Rod, and spending time with him and his family. Spent time with him right up until he passed away, what a great human being. Love to tell a story about how Roddy would always claim on TV he had 6 kids...it was always 6 kids...but yet, there was only 4 - What a funny conversation I had with Kitty about this.
I think wrestlers want to be wrestlers...info the wrestling business doesn't pay as much as being on mainstream or the movies. even though it's much more difficult and life threatening. it's ass backwards. but the people who run the business are all cheap and they don't ever wanna put someone else on. that's the only thing I hate about wrestling. the Indy guys and the main show guys should ALL be making hella bank. unfortunately it's just not the case, and it's sad how fans can make more money than the talent?
junior galu He was a major let down, especially considering his promo ability. Ventura was a gold standard and Piper just wasn’t the guy to replace him.
Well like Bruce said he was one of the best heel commentators ever in the early 80s. He didn't make a great color guy as a baby face probably cause he was a lot better as a heel, and it limits what your capable of doing especially in that era when a baby face had to be a good giy. Still I thought he was alright though he doesn't really have that color guy announcer type voice, he can be a bit hard to understand and sometimes talked real fast and sometimes his words were like jibberish. He did great on the prime time show though but that's where Roddy thrives with the camera on him and getting into Angles and shooting with other characters. Especially the angle with Ric Rude, and all the shit him and Bobby Heenan would talk to each other.
Bruce, not getting that call is not your fault. He loved you and you were a great friend and he knew you loved him. You said it felt like you fucked up but you didn’t do anything wrong and you rock.

The ending of this was truly something got to give Bruce credit for getting through it amazing podcast guys.

I had his 'stretch arm strong' type of action figure.. Hot Rod was the man
How cool Roddy playing the National Anthem on the bagpipes in Houston.

I love that Bruce was a real friend to RRP and you could tell. True emotions.
WWF didn't promote They Live but Piper got TBS and WCW to do it. LOL
"If you still want a little more Roddy Piper, "
I think we all want a little more Roddy Piper.

Always, thank you.
I miss this Bruce. It was a good run while it lasted! They still are doing it and I support it but it clearly hasn’t been the same for awhile
body slam is def an underrated movie with piper
Coming to Blu-ray and DVD very soon from Kino Lorber!
Rest in peace Roddy and thank you Bruce for being able to share your stories with everyone. He was one of the greats for sure.
U
Roddy said on his DVD that he was about to hit Downey with the fire extinguisher and you can hear Monsoon saying `No Roddy!` lol

Thanks for doing this Bruce. I know it must have been rough. Roddy would smile 🙂
The ending was really sad, and proves what Bret Hart said in his movie was true that "wrestling is far more real than people think"

Sorry for your loss, brother.
Rowdy was brilliant a true original. Only Bobby Heenan could rival his wit. God Bless them both.
Ahhh the coliseum. Houston native over here. That place and The Summit. 2 venues I really miss
Piper’s theme was a real song. It’s called ‘The Bonny Lass O’Fyvie.’

The Test T-shirt was in Happy Gilmore. The tall guy that kept heckling Shooter wore it.
2:29:00- Bruce's all time greatest impression lol
?😂
2:29:16 ROTFFLMMFAO 😂😂😂😂😂 IM DEAD!!!!!!! Bruce BEST IMPERSONATION is the GOOF Johnny Ace!!!!!! My god this is GOLD
The best thing Johnny Ace EVER did was being the younger brother of Animal
The weight of missing that phone has to be huge. But the beauty of being the last person he called...well that's beautiful
brother love takes it DEEP

I hate to be 'That Guy' but WM X is 9 years after WM I.
Piper is one of the all time legends

Saber Crosby I believe that was the plan and it would’ve been the best podcast on the planet!
53:00 was gold!
Starts at 8:52
How do we get a rikishi episode wanna what were Bruce thinking about his random heel turn, etc
I just watched “They Live”.
I still can't believe they even would of considered the OJ angle for Mania XI, that's one that you shouldn't even thought of let alone pitch and Vince actually liked that?!
Superstars is on the network. 1992 through til 1997
Catching up on the old stw's in a warehouse by myself at night, and the O.J. Simpson story..... What tha fuck?!!!!🤯😅

You can tell just how much Piper meant to Bruce. Emotional end to the show.
Gland-fat Thompson is the last person to talk smack about someone trying to baby-face themselves. He is the Davey Crockett of Wrestling Podcasts.
52:57
Why would Piper be so offended by people impersonating him?
Everybody pays the piper.
he was the shits on commentary. especially that Virgil Dibiase match at WM
The I quit match referee gig was not his finest moment either

I didn’t like his commentary in WWF. He was funny in parts but mostly he didn’t do it all that well.
junior galu u didn't like primetime with Roddy, Gorilla & The Brain? Wow, really?
NYGiants5680 we didn’t get prime time here where I live, so I never got to watch it. I was referring to Piper’s commentary on the Pay per views.

What's his role with WWE, dose he even have a role?
Roddy Piper is the most overrated wrestler ever
