"Alaska Granny" has shown taping packaging bubbles in windows to insulate, but still let light through. Make grocery runs before storms...don't get caught out...hibernate by fire and enjoy. Make sure you have your coffee, tea, cocoa ready to go...comforting. pray for linemen and first responders in areas to be hard hit. The linemen are already geared to go. Thank you, service people. Last time we had that terrible polar vortex nightmare a elderly woman went out in the middle of it to check something I guess and it turned into a tragic accident. I have senior lady friends that I say call someone and put phone in pocket if you go outside alone they will hear if you fall or are injured.

I use one of those mini oil filled heaters ( Like a mini Delonghi radiator Heater ) in my well pump house. It's about 12 inches high and 12 inches in length. and 3 inches wide. Has a thermostat on it. Works perfect to keep my pressure tank hut above 40 degrees and with the thermostat .. cuts on and off automatically.
My husband always got laid off in the winter. So I knew I had to be prepared for the winter by November. I canned food got wood up for the winter and tried to get hay or feed for the animals to be prepared. Thanks for giving good advice.

All sorts of places sell the formed Styrofoam cup things that are put over outdoor faucets to help keep freeze damage away. I suppose one could salvage a hunk of styrofoam from somewhere around the home and make their own too if need be.
Another tip to keep the sink pipes from freezing where you showed letting the water run in the sink just a tiny bit to keep the water flowing.. another way to do this is to open the cabinet doors, those underneath the sink and let the heat from the room circulate in there.. p.s. .. if anyone does open their cabinet doors and has pets, make sure there isn’t anything poisonous or dangerous that your dog or cat can get ahold of inside those cabinets.. ✌🏻
I'm no expert but the fans wont keep the cold air out and warm air in unless the vents are closed. For example, in my garage, I have a greenhouse fan that blows warm air. If the windows were open a little bit, it would not keep the room warm. Does that help?

It's another backup. Nothing seems to be perfect. You need power to charge it, so if grid is down for any length of time, you must have solar panels, which cost as much as the power station. I did get them but if you have a week of cloudy weather, they won't work, so you need a gas generator to plug power station into to charge it, and for that you need gasoline or propane. So, you really have to figure out what you can afford and how it will meet your needs.
