YOU ARE A LEGEND! I just completed this Intro to Networking playlist and I can say I can go out there and boldly talk about networking confidently! Clear, fun and informative. Thank you so much.
This is the path I took and I think it is a very good path: Go to a two year technical school that has a program for networking specifically. You want a program that has a combination of lecture and hands on labs. At my school I did classes that were four hours. The first two were lecture and then the second two were lab. We got to use the equipment and work in groups to configure the networks so it was good hands on experience. After graduating you make a sweep over the material again using a good CCNA reference. Then you go to take the tests. The skill can be used in so many areas. Because everything is networked you can leverage this knowledge in many domains. You could get into video broadcasting, be an IT generalist or use more of the skills at once as a network engineer. No matter where you go in technology this knowledge is very valuable. There are so many problems that you can quickly solve if you know the network.
I just completed watching this entire 14 video Networking series from the CBTNuggets Playlist here on channel. And I really really learned a lot. The learning itself was fun as I work in OT and not IT. So much so I was inspired every step of the way as I’m also working on my CCNA. Your energy and enthusiasm really helped as well so well explaining things. Thanks for the encouragement, I really need it. Thank You 3000!
Zul Husni OT or Operations Technology is the Industrial Equivalent to its infrastructure to what IT is to Enterprise Systems for any company. OT is a bit newer as Industrial Systems Networks operation has very different needs and in how it all operate than how traditional IT Systems operate. However both IT & OT helps each other to accomplish a companies goal who has both large Enterprise System and Network as well a Manufacturing & Industrial Operations Network. Manufacturing & Industrial Systems Networks have different needs in how their system operates and function.
@ Zul Husni. It’s dealing depending on what your company does dealing with Industrial or Manufacturing Automation Control Network Infrastructure Systems. It’s keeping it working, working properly and doing all the technical troubleshooting and system upgrades. The Network Engineer for all those systems. Industrial & Manufacturing Control Systems requires a lot of Networking as well Security and it has different protocol needs in how it operates than traditional IT Enterprise.
That was so interesting!! I first came here for my test and stayed because of how powerful your courses were! Thanks a lot Keith! Keep doing what you love!! ;D
Keith, the best of your video series is the final one. It is inspiring and motivating and I have asked my son to watch this video series so that he gets some goal in life and take it serious. Thank You. I am sure many would have got motivated by your guidance.
Thank you, Keith! Excellent set of intro videos that have helped personally reinforce my networking learning. Your videos are simple to understand, especially with all the relatable visual aids that not all textbooks explain as clearly.
Thank you for your vids. My question is where does the dns, dhcp and other services live if you don't have a dediccated dns server in a normal home netwwork? Part of browser, router or laptop?
DNS servers usually live offsite. If you go into the network settings of your phone or computer, you can change the IP of the DNS server your device will use. It comes preconfigured, but some DNS servers are faster/more reliable than others. For example Googles public DNS system has an IP of 8.8.8.8, and the one I usually use by cloudflare has an IP of 1.1.1.1 (it speeds up how fast webpages load by a bit). DHCP is done by most modern combo router/AP units that you'd get from XFinity or whatever, for ease of configuration.
