Interesting! I never thought Beirut was part of Syria during the Ottomans, and not part of mount Lebanon in the 19th century. Also it was interesting to know that the initial site of establishing the College building was set for Homs area due to the large presence of Christians. I wonder then why they didn't think of Latakia, instead of Homs, as it had a large Christian population and it is situated on the Mediterranean coast, as Beirut !
