ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്ലാസിക്കൽ ഡാൻസിൽ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനമാണ് ചിലങ്ക. നർത്തകിയുടെ ചിലങ്കയെ (കണങ്കാൽ മണികൾ) ആദരിക്കുന്ന ചടങ്ങാണ് ചിലങ്ക പൂജ. ഒരു നർത്തകിയുടെ വേഷവിധാനത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും മംഗളകരമായ ഇനമാണ് ചിലങ്ക. ചിലങ്ക പൂജ കഴിയുന്നതുവരെ ഒരാൾക്ക് ചിലങ്ക ധരിക്കാനും അനുഷ്ടിക്കാനും അനുവാദമില്ല. ഒരു ശുഭദിനത്തിൽ, കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളും ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഒത്തുകൂടുന്നു, അവിടെ പുതിയ ചിലങ്ക പൂജ നടത്തുകയും ഗുരു അത് വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്ക് നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. വിദ്യാർത്ഥി ആദ്യമായി ചിലങ്ക അണിയുമ്പോൾ ഗുരു അത് വിദ്യാർത്ഥിയുടെ കാലിൽ കെട്ടും എന്നതാണ് ഈ ചടങ്ങിൻ്റെ ഭംഗി.
Chilanga is the most important Indian classical dance. Chilanka Puja is a ceremony to honor the chilangka (ankle bells) of the dancer. Chilanga is the most auspicious item in a dancer's costume. One is not allowed to wear Chilanga and worship till Chilanga Puja is done. On an auspicious day, family and friends gather at a temple, where a new Chilanka Puja is performed and the Guru gives it to the students. The beauty of this ceremony is that when the student wears the Chilanga for the first time, the Guru ties it to the student's feet.
