    Love my 660, cannon bar and 404 full skip stihl chain.

    Cool test man. That Cannon bar is sweet. I want to get one for the Alaskan mill. Do you notice a differenc going from 8 pin to 7 pin sprocket? Thanks Nick

    • @Redbull661
      @Redbull661  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you'd notice less torque. At that length I see no reason to go 8pin. If you aren't biting in enough. Which I don't think I was on the 3/8ths. Just take a swipe or two off the rakers. For milling I'd want more torque so definitely 7pin

    Hello. Can you tell me where (maybe send a link) for where you bought the Archer chains? How do the Archer chains compare to the Stihl as for wear and for cost? Is there some thing you can point me to that will help me get a GOOD understanding of what differences there are between the 3/8 and 404 chains? I am not familiar and any help will be very appreciated. Thank you. Michael

    • @Redbull661
      @Redbull661  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ebay. They are pretty good. I'd rate them in between middle of the road for hardness. Oregon softer. Stihl harder. Definitely beat both on cost.

  • @alexmattyspac7605

    Maybe a dumb question but is the bar the same bar for the 3/8 and the 404? I know the rim sprocket would need to change right?

      @@akostoth3998 the bar tip would need to be replaced unless it is a hard nose. Also 404 comes 063 or 058 so your ⅜ and 404 would have to be the same gauges. As long as the bar gauges are the same the tip and the spocket can be changed out.

    I have a question about the 661 and mix oil? You and Scott clearly have this saw figured. What mix and at what ratio do you use it at? And have you had any of the crank bearing issues I keep hearing people talk about? I have a XS661 ported by Kevin L. I run motul 800 2T @ 40:1 in VP ethanol free gas. Everyone ive talked to runs 50:1 in their 661 and I think this is where the problem with the bearings is coming from? Just my opinion. Any input from you would be greatly appreciated.

    • @em4703
      @em4703 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I use the same oil as you, at 33:1. Muffler is dry, gray in color. Inside the engine is nice and oily. Very good brand of oil. Don't cheap out on ratios, bearings like oil volume. 50:1 just asks for premature wear, so you're doing good going 40:1. It's not like Stihl or Husqvarna would care, it would still last hundreds of hours if not more even at leaner ratios. By then they can shove their new saw line down our throats. Win-win for them.

      I mix bombardier xps2 at 32:1 in everything, always have run 32:1 with no failures except once with old mix caster oil, I learned caster lubricity goes right out the window after about 7 days. That's when I switched to using only freshly mixed in small batches.

    Have you tried the cannon narrow kerf bars that run peco chain? Would be cool to see a comparison.

    • @Redbull661
      @Redbull661  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah I thought about doing an cannon regular bar vs mini narrow kerf. even if I used used same 3/8ths chain.
      Tree Monkey and I have tried to make a .325 chain as fast as 3/8ths on the 661. Just can't...we took sooo much off the rakers on a .325 chain it was basically ruined as far as working on any other saw. So with that in mind I'd like to see if the narrow kerf bar made a difference 3/8 vs 3/8

    • @1d1hamby
      @1d1hamby 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, more chains would be interesting. 3/8 50 gauge round tooth no skip chain and a semi round tooth and square tooth round file and square file. That would be interesting, but you'd need three cuts each. Then 63 gauge 3/8 and 404. And if you know what a full house chain is, a cutter on every driver, try that.

    How does it oil the 50 inch bar? Did you turn up the oiler?

    • @Redbull661
      @Redbull661  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      oiler is maxed...well I always leave it at max no matter what bar I am using. that said if the wood was really dry it would likely have a problem. Wood being wet/recently cut helps. Have not tried to mod the 661 oiler. Eventually I'd like to try it.
