Whats the point when you can bust them to pieces with a hydraulic breaker and excavator with way less work? To me it seems a waist of time and also damaging to the tool when it falls off the rock, which they cut out of the video.

It's hydrolic...the pegs in the rock expand . Mark the predrilling , how deep? They also have ...childproof explosives they expand alot ,but slow , they are cheap and reasonably safe for rock cracking explosives , Jeff Williams explains them well , he cracks rocks to inspect the dirt under them for gold dust . Air compressor driving hydrolic jaws...in reverse.old style feathers an wedges. Also know your stone , limestone is soft , granite is hard.

Though it likely is the same as one I used, if you pause at 3:08 (the moment the rock splits and just before the worker standing on top gets dumped off the split rock, heh, the twit) you can see the shaft below the tool head. It is split and tapered down the middle and the hydraulic ram on top pushes a thin wedge, well greased, down the center. Considerable outward force then splits the rock. I was removing rocks from the sub-basement of a nuclear test facility. :-)
