Wow thanks this is the easiest way for me. I need to know whether this is fondant or gumpaste. Please I must make a cake tomorrow. The girl can't afford a professional baker and ask me. Do you have a tutorial for a bigger cap? I think the fondant might be to heavy if I do it all fondant. What do you think?

No, this is the only tutorial for graduation caps I have. I think it would depend what would be under the toppers. If you use thick frosting, then it should be OK. I am not sure how big the caps you are thinking of making but you could also make the "barrel" part hollow so it wouldn't be so heavy.
