    Fantastic video Eli! You’ve helped me understand better how the cutting mat I’ve recently reviewed is going to work. Thank you!

    I really like my self healing mat. It's nice cutting without worrying about the surface and as you mentioned it makes a really nice clean cut.

      Thank you for commenting, Gretel! It is certainly quite convenient to have a cutting mat even if it is just for the purpose of having a durable surface that I can do any kind of craft on top of.

    I have the same Alvin mat you are demonstrating. It's my first Alvin, but it won't be my last--it's *just* the right combination of grippiness, resilience, and resistance for me. And yes, for anyone who is working with tools or materials that can damage your work table, they are (IMO) essential, and a lot less expensive than replacing or refinishing the table! As you noted, for cutting cardboard (really, for ANY hobby knife work), cutting mats offer some safety that mat-less cutting can't.

      Truth! Thank you for sharing your opinion on cutting mats, Elizabeth. You are so right that they offer a safer and generally more enjoyable experience than non-cutting-mat solutions.
      Have a wonderful 4th of July!

      I intend to use the Alvin as a desktop mat. Do you think it would be able to withstand the heat of my laptop and coffee cup? Will the paint come off?

    • @elizabethturner2421
      @elizabethturner2421 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RagingHamster8330 I doubt the paint will come off, but I am concerned about the laptop's heat causing deformation. You might consider propping up the backside of the laptop (thereby tilting the keyboard towards you) to permit air circulation and minimizing the chances for warping--it'll also give your laptop added cooling.

    I was wondering how do you inforce cardboard, should I just double it like, hot glue them together? in a larger scale. like a extra large packing box size.

      Hi CaptianApe!
      There are a few ways to reinforce cardboard and it would take pages to tell of a of them, but here are some ideas. You can doble up your cardboard like you are talking about, or you can just use stronger cardboard. I talk about types of cardboard I this video: th-cam.com/video/QpFzbpo-F6Q/w-d-xo.html
      Or you can integrate wood or metal part into your cardboard. Sometimes I put thin metal rods through my cardboard to make it stronger.
      You could also add ribs across your cardboard pieces. These ribs could be straight other pieces of cardboard with the grain running in a different direction, or you could fold the ribs to make them stronger.
      Lastly, if you are folding you cardboard you can use those folds to make it stronger. Here is a video on how to make strong folds: th-cam.com/video/Y3fGeKJYliw/w-d-xo.html
      I hope this helps,

    Can this be used to measure a dreamcatcher ring?

    • @MakerBrain
      @MakerBrain  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the comment, Reeje! This man doesn't have any circle markings but the grid of lines (spaced a half inch apart) could certainly help You measure different sizes of rings.
      I wish you the best of luck!
