this was absolutely lovely :) i am making my first ever knitting project (simple as it gets, a comically long multicolor stripey scarf) so while i’m far off from AWESOME DINO SWEATERS it was rly fun to knit along with you and hear about your week! thanks as always for all the care you put into the things you do and share!!
Hi Cissy - I LOVE these types of vlogs! I'm a crocheter who has attempted to learn how to knit before and it just...doesn't work LOL. So I'm really amazed to see your progress on sweaters! Looking forward to the next video :)
Ahh thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the knitting vlog, I'd love to do more in the future and show a bit more of all my knitting projects! I'm currently working on replacing all the sweaters in my closet with handmade ones and we're slowly but surely getting there
The sweater is adorable. I've considered making it for one of my nieces who is a dino nut. I just thought I might give you a couple of tips when it comes to swatching and kids clothes. Kids clothing I try to make sure that they can get at least 2 winters out of the piece. I always knit an extra 2-4 inches of length to the body and sleeves. The first winter the sleeves can be cuffed up, the following one it can be uncuffed (example). For little girls you could go tunic length or a short sweater dress and get maybe even 3 or 4 winters of use out of the same piece! Swatching. I'd like to recommend knitting a bigger swatch, at least 4" square or one pattern repeat plus 4 extra stitches on either side. This allows you the measure without pulling to get it to lay flat. Also this gives you a chance to measure more than one spot to ensure accuracy. In the spirit of that if it's stranded color work a swatch with both or all strands is better. Stranded color work tension is always tighter than non. If time or excitement to get started is a barrier to doing a big stranded swatch check out "speed swatching". 😉 You can always either frog it when done and use the yarn in the project, save them for a patchwork project, or you could put it with the pattern and yarn bands to build a portfolio of your work. Hope these tips improve your already awesome knitting. 😊
I knit the adult version of this, with long sleeves, for myself almost exactly a year ago. It took soooooo long but man the finished product is so beautiful. I'm a glutton for punishment though I guess, 'cause I enjoy knitting on tiny needles 😂
Idky this was recommended so late 😭 The sweater is so cute! I use metal stitch markers too and ended up sticking a magnet in my stitch marker box and on my coffee table because all my markers disappear into the abyss. Edit to say you can upload a drawing/picture to stitch fiddle to make a chart, it'll pixelate it amd can pick how many colours/stitches across to make it 😀
Whenever I actually need to swatch but don’t feel like making a 4”x4”, I make a square that’s 2” instead (so it ends up being a quarter of the size, but I can still measure an inch in the middle with some gutter room for weird edges)
30:23 as someone from an older city (multistory buildings built before elevators were invented) one of the problems with older buildings is that in order to put something like that in, they’d have to tear down so much of the building they run into issues getting permission from the city because the building itself is a relic (you probably had internet issues because the walls are made with horsehair plaster and the wire mesh backing affects wireless signals). New build construction has to be ADA compliant, but there are generally exceptions made where it would be ridiculously expensive to update existing infrastructure - the rule exists for a reason, so businesses aren’t ruined for working out of a building that needs updates, but at the same time it would be nice to be able to access those spaces
I have done my own colorwork charts but I try my best to keep knitting and fiber arts a hobby!! I don't want to monetize it cause I think it might make it less fun 😅
Swatching for tension: my tension used to change as I go 😂
omg!! i imagine that makes it really hard to knit a finished piece
same
that's the most adorable sweater omg i love it your little brother is so lucky!!
Thank you!! Its been a fun project although the sleeves have been taking FOREVER 😅💖

the magnet thing is big brained omg
I use safety pins as stitch markers and this is such a great idea
Turn the sock into a wrist warmer!!

i just loved the knitting vlog!! Did your brother like the sweater? It's so cute!!
yes!! he did like it
I want that sweater in an adult size. Just different colors.
Have you considered doing color work sweater designs? That would be a great digital product for you!

@@ccsartcafe I totally get it. You would likely do well in that space, but you don't need more pressure. Then it would not be fun for you fo' sure!
