Kazhun Jiles Remember Many East Europeans use Russian as lingua franca,so you can use It as a bridge to start connections. And with people from the Balkans either, they don't speak Russian, though.
You're a bit of a hero of mine! Smashing stereotypes of all sorts! You obvously have a really awesome approach to language learning and work really hard on that and that is ace. Totally would never in a million years imagine you'd be a) a truck driver or b) a Russian speaker who learnt as an adult! You're winning at life hehe :) Nice one! :D (I hope to succeed with Russian one day also, its going awesomely for me! Your earlier video helped keep me motivated too :D)
A pretty young black girl who speaks Russian and is a trucker, I think that is so awesome! And your Russian sounds great! I am learning too so I am subscribing to your channel and following your tips. Спасибо!
Thank you! I'm trying to learn Russian and I'm a Portuguese speaker. I already know the alphabet but now I'm struggling to make phrases or to flex the verbs... It's very important for me to see a afro-american woman speaking that language that I love. The video was very useful and now I feel motivated to carry on!!! Xo from Brazil!
Your learning methods are on point! I would like to add that podcasts are great for listening, i.e. iTunes. I usually go the iTunes store, change the flag to the country of the language I’m learning then look for podcasts about my favorite subjects, literature and culture and society. If I find a voice or voices that are easy on the ears, I’ll just subscribe to that podcast. This is a free and amazing resource as listening is key in language learning. Also reading and listening via a site called Lingq.com. It is not necessary to be a paying subscriber if one doesn’t want to pay. All texts and matching audio in the library are free and downloadable. (I have been a paying subscriber since 2010 because I use if regularly for all the seven languages that I am learning.) It’s a great site to use as a platform for reading and listening.
We lived in Germany from 1991 - 1998. I learned German, Spanish, Italian and Portugese there. Russian and Polish i understand lots of since Serbian is close to Russian.
Do you ever meet Russian speakers and start talking in American English? Then reveal that you are fluent in Russian? If I were you i'd do that.. be so fun to see the looks on their faces lol.
This video is so inspirational. I am a student in university studying Russian at the intermediate level and I want to be able to speak as fluently as you. I will definitely be using these tips. Thank you so much!
You are a BEAST! I was very obsessive with Italian, and it's easy, with respect to Russian. I worked out there, but I often worked 12 hours a day and I was tired really. I have a break now and I am doing well. Your speaking video is sooooo impressive! xx
Flashcards are my number one classroom tool for teaching mfl it is a brilliant way to learn and you can play around with what you do with them! Fab vid
I was one of the few lucky ones who learned Russian in Russia. Padej (падеж) is hard in Russki yazik. Most foreigners who learn Russian don't bother with it. But it is important if you want to speak the language well, or more importantly, if you want to be understood. The order of the words in a sentence don't matter much. It's the padej that tells you the meaning. Another challenge is how fast native speakers speak. They slice and dice up words to the point that you would no longer recognize the individual words. E.g. Alexander Alexandrovich may become SanSnch. Well done Kazhun Jiles on how much effort you put into learning Russki. It's not easy that way.
Richard Sci Thank you. I agree completely. The падежы were very difficult in the beginning. Over time you don't think much about it anymore. Lately, I love listening to motivational videos in Russian. How long were you in Russia? By the way, my Russian has improved quite a bit since these videos. Now, I'm trying to focus a little more on Spanish.
"How long were you in Russia?" I was in school for almost 3yrs. Year 1 was podgotovitelni fakultet. Then I did another few semesters of classes before departing for good. Nowadays, I just enjoy Russian movies and series when I can make the time.
Richard Sci I will reply in Russian.
While watching your video I got the idea of naming things or calling things in Russian. Like instead of saying I am hungry, I'd say it in Russian. Or "Turn the TV" say it in Russian, lol just got that idea from watching your vid so thanks haha =)
Thanks for the tips...i was always curious to how you learned to speak russian so well. I was so impressed and inspired that i used to send any russian friends i met to watch your video lol...I have also been studying Russian off and on since 2013 but no way near as fluent as i would like to be. Currently I'm using Duolingo, Russianpod101, Fun Easy Learn phone app, just to name a few. I also listen to the music channel ELLO on TH-cam. I even listen to Russian hip hop too just to pick up their slang...thanks to the few guys i met on VK lol...never knew they had hardcore rappers in Russia.

Also, I would like to ask you a few questions about how you achieved so much success. Do you mind emailing me? The only thing that's difficult is learning two languages that are from the same language family without being proficient enough in one. my email is kacharay@gmail.com

How is your comprehension with native speakers? If youre living in a non Russian speaking country, you are probably not exposed to a lot. Strangely, I feel my comprehension is the weakest, compared to reading, speaking etc. Most people feel that listening comprehension is the easiest. Russian comprehension is tough! I live in Kyiv Ukraine and after studying 2-3 hours daily for 9 months, I still feel I can only understand 30% of a random Russian conversation on the street. (between other people)
Jeffrey D I totally understand what you mean. I grew up in a Russian speaking community. My comprehension got a lot better in the past year by expanding my vocabulary more. As far as using Russian, I talk to people on language exchange apps like speaky and if we become friends I add them on what's app. That speech you're referring to his difficult for me too because it's very informal and you can't learn it from a book.
Elma Mirdan I grew up in Sacramento, California and there is a large Russian speaking population there. I went to high school with them and became very active in the community. I've always enjoyed learning languages. Hopefully I will put some videos out in Spanish and Romanian soon
