    Thanks a lot for this. I have a 2005 730d and can’t find any videos on changing the thermostat. I was going to pay a mechanic to do it but I don’t think I’ll bother now!

    Hello, the temperature in my vehicle does not rise, it drops while driving, could this EGR thermostat be defective?

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's hard to say for sure but my guess is that your main thermostat has failed and stuck in the open position, over cooling your cars engine. On my car I actually ended up replacing both the main thermostat and the EGR thermostat and after this my car had no more temperature issues.

      @@bumbleshufflesdiy5908 The normal thermostat in my vehicle has just been changed. When parked, the temperature returns to normal and warms up, but when driving on the road, it drops to 30-40 degrees. Does the EGR thermostat have anything to do with this? Greetings from Turkey, thank you very much for your quick response.

      On my car I had the same symptoms and changing the main thermostat made some difference but the temperature still dropped a little when driving at speed for me. When I then changed this EGR thermostat it fully cured the problem. So in my case I had to change both but the symptoms of temperature dropping at speed then rising when stopped or stuck in traffic was definitely more to do with the main thermostat in my case.

    Doing mine tomorrow noticed today the end of my egr thermostat has cracked off and dripping 😣. I think this is the reason my car dpf has been struggling lately has it wouldn't of been getting hot enough to do the regen. Thanks for the video 👊.

    Good job whats the direction of the coolant in the Tstat? Left to right or right to left? Thanks

    Do u need to bleed it for the air to come out once done??

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I idled it with the lid open on the coolant reservoir for a while but the level never really changed as so little was lost. Prob wudnt do any harm to bleed it but u wont loose very much changing this part.

    Thanks for video. I pulled the egr thermostat today and noticed there was no O ring? Not sure how it wasn't leaking. The new one also came without o ring so I will have to buy one separately.

    Also is there meant to be two O-rings ? As I got one in the package and also seen an o ring on the part that goes on to the EGR

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I only got one with mine but (and this is testing my memory) the old O ring remained stuck in the hole and I had to remove it before fitting the new part, along with the new O ring. So on mine there was only ONE O ring fitted. Does that make sense or have I misunderstood?

      @@bumbleshufflesdiy5908 that makes sense bud, really appreciate the swift response. My E60 seemed to be a poorly maintained car by previous owner, it had silicone and 2 O rings to stop the leak. Very glad I came across your video

    Hello. Have you flushed any coolant before replacing thermostat? I heard you filled it up after but I'm wondering if there is alot of coolant in pipes near egr thermostat.

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On this occasion I just swapped them and then most likely bled the system using the little screw on the egr thermostat. I have flushed the system before on a different job. The drain plug is red and at the bottom edge of the radiator under the car.

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From memory there is little to no coolant lost during this egr thermostat change because it is at a high point and nothing worth talking about spills out (from memory - was a while ago).

  • @barryalbert7600

    Why did you change the egr stat and not just the o ring ?

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had issues before with these thermostats and it was a cheap part so I thought it better to change the whole thing rather than just an O ring.

    • @barryalbert7600
      @barryalbert7600 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thought as much, I’m just changing the o ring, it was obvious that that has failed be putting back together tomorrow. Did you find any torque settings for the 2 bolts mate

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@barryalbert7600 sorry its so long ago and I've since sold the car so I've no memory re torque values. I likely just nipped them up by hand but I never had an issue since the change until selling the car. You are likely correct that it just needs an O ring as mine had really perished / melted to bits in there.

    Since you have to pull out the hose from the vacuumpump, do we have to bleed the brakesystem afterwards?

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea what the book procedure says you should do for this job but I didn't bleed the brakes after this and I never had any problems.

    Hello mate! If you change the EGR termostat there are chances the coolant will leak and will need to refill the coolant level?
    Thank you in advance for your answer.

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, in my experience no you will not lose any coolant really if you change the egr thermostat and touch nothing else.

    if i remember correlty - if car can't reach after 75C then it is EGR thermostat ?
    Mine is doing around 77-78 so i am guessing my main thermostat is good.

    • @bumbleshufflesdiy5908
      @bumbleshufflesdiy5908  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your understanding is the same as mine. From memory, my car was the same and only making it up to around 75c and after replacing the egr thermostat, it then made it up to 90c. The good news is that replacing the egr thermostat is simple and cheap!
