I love the supertuscan Sassicaia wine! My private collection spans Sassicaia wines from great vintages from 1998, through 2006, 2008, 2009, 2015, 2016 to the current 2021 vintage. I consider Sassicaia wine to be the queen of Bordeaux-style wines in Tuscany. Although her younger sister Ornellaia makes her a great competitor in the long run. I love both wines, but Sassicaia is number one for me!
Hello Mr David Allen, I enjoy your video immensely and I hope you continue to contribute and share your knowledge to the wine community. If you have a job opening as your assistant, I will gladly work for free. All the best and good luck!!
Once had it in a tasting together with numerous 2. Grow level Bordeaux, and it couldn't really take the comparison. I thought it was good but overpriced, I suppose it's more or less the same today?
I think when you talk about these kind of wines value for money is a rather alien concept anyway - but actually no, I think Sassicia becomes very special when fully mature in a way that Bordeaux doesn't. Sassicia certainly doesn't have the density of Leoville Barton or Ducru Beaucauillou. I guess perhaps that makes it fail by comparison when young perhaps. I've scheduled my tasting of Sassicaia 98 for Saturday. That is the oldest I've tried Sassicia and it convinced me. There are some wines where comparisons don't work - For example I now have a rule never to taste Ch Musar alongside Bordeaux as the Bordeaux is always fresher and the Musar loses out by comparison.
Unfortauntely haven’t tried Sassicaia yet… I just bought a few bottles of 2018 Mazzei Tenuta Belguardo Maremma Riserva which I’m looking forward to trying in a few years

Yes to me Sassicaia has an ethereal nature that makes it special and sets it apart. Ornellaia make brilliant wines but they seem more structured.
What a "TOUGH JOB" you have David !!!! ENJOY. many thanks for sharing your beautiful /tasty experience.
It has been particularly rough of late I have to say!...

@@winesearcher Interesting 🤔. Will You make a video on the 98 Sassicaia ?
It is scheduled to go out at the weekend
I don’t think I be spending that much on a bottle anytime soon but I hope there’s a few billionaires out there that will enjoy it.
I think that is a fair point
