      Is the SRT system worth getting the new version, as opposed to a used 130 (which does not have the SRT system)? Thanks..

      @@guitar-academy They did the same thing with the "silent sax" (YDS-150). First, it never existed. Then, some promo - but no product to buy (for months). Still not generally available in the USA - I somehow found one on Amazon. They know what they're doing for marketing - and instrument making. My soprano sax is a 1987 Yamaha. As to the silent guitars, it looks like 2002 for the first gen, with the latest at 2015. So, maybe not for a while!

    These guitars are hard to find on TH-cam. This is a solid technical review that answered many questions I’ve had over the years. The demos were clear and direct. Fantastic overview.

    I was recently "bequeathed" a number of guitars and peddles by an acquaintance who left the state. (Hawaii) One of the guitars was a perfectly preserved Yamaha SLG200S in it's original case.
    I was really quite amazed by it's multitude of functions and particularly by it's very unique sound quality. No less am I impressed by this video and your very thorough and clear review of this guitar.

    Audio engineer tip for you - when running audio in to another device, e.g. a desk… pop the input device to max level / output and alter the recording / receiving device as you wish to kill the hiss. This means the pre-amps in your desk won’t need to up the signal received. Loved the video and liked it, thanks

    I have one of the early steel string models - the 100. Love it. I even put electric strings on it - .010's, and it plays like a Les Paul, and sounds like an acoustic all the way. I'd like to get one of the nylon string models, too. Doesn't matter where you go with it, on stage, in the studio, around the house - it's completely functional. I have no complaints at all.

    Sounds really lovely, and thank you for such a detailed (and calm...) overview of this instrument.
    I have one question just out of curiosity; do you think one of these guitars would be a reasonable choice for someone looking to pick up guitar playing in general? Especially if they aren't sure whether they really want to play acoustic or electric.

    • @guitar-academy
      @guitar-academy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much 😃
      That's a good question . . Honestly, all I can do is give you things to consider, the decision will be very personal to yourself and depend on you budget, music tastes and determination to learn guitar. If you have the money, then this is a good middle ground as it has a similar feel to an electric guitar. However, normally I would suggest getting a cheaper guitar to start with, then you can buy an electric and an acoustic. I've been teaching for over 30 years and it's amazing how many times I've taught people who like to listen to one style of music but prefer to play another . . 🤔

    • @Mythricia1988
      @Mythricia1988 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@guitar-academy That is a good point! I haven't played an instrument for almost 20 years, and never a guitar, but lately feel inspired to tinker. Just for my own enjoyment. Initially I was convinced I wanted to get an electric, but I've been a bit fascinated by other alternatives as I was researching.
      But you are quite right I suppose; I could probably get two decent instruments for the price of one of these, if I wasn't happy with my first choice!
      Thank you.

      @@Mythricia1988 I really hope you have a great time with any guitar. I think it's a great way to relax and they recon if you learn an instrument it can help prevent Alzheimer's later in life . . 😃

    It’SO important to have purchased a guitar that you’re going to review yourself. I was searching for travel guitars and every single channel, the person doing the review said it was given to them to review and/or also that guitar company was their sponsor… they didn’t have a single word of criticism which I find suspicious. I think had they spent their own money and they weren’t swayed by who was actually sponsoring the video that their review would likely have been different.

      @@guitar-academy Thanks for replying so quick! I see that you've replied to most of the comments here. I imagine that takes a bit of time and diligence so I appreciate that. Just one clarifying question: if you look at 7:48, the volume knob has 7 "ticks," if you will; when plugging headphones directly into the "PHONES" output, at what "tick" do you begin to hear sound? Also, at this point in the video the volume knob is at "tick" 5. Is this the volume you generally play at (specifically when using headphones)? Thanks

    • @guitar-academy
      @guitar-academy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@user-jj9gi1ci5n On any acoustic guitar I very rarely go above 7 on the volume because I don't want the risk of signal distortion and the higher the volume the greater the chance of the signal being clipped.
      When playing normally on headphones I don't take the volume much above 5 because it gets too load, 6 is about right. Also remember when using headphones that you have to turn the guitar on and turn the tuner off, the headphone socket isn't a switching socket.

      No, I never had a buzz on any of the string on either the N or the S version. If anything more people complain that the action is too high. You show plugging this into the line-in on the mixer. The guitar is almost certainly a Hi-Z instrument level output. That may have contributed to the hiss and possibly made the sound quality suffer, as the mixer would be expecting a much higher signal level. I would be curious if there is a difference if plugged into an instrument input or through a DI box.

    • @guitar-academy
      @guitar-academy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a standard line out on the guitar 1k ohm impedance and the input on the desk is switchable. It sound a lot worse through Hi-Z because of the impedance mismatch, but good thought . . 🙂

    What would be a good set of earphones to go with it

      It will work with any headphones and you get some Yamaha ones with it, but I'm no headphone expert so someone else would be better qualified to answer that question 😊🤔

    If you insert only the headphone without the main jack does the guitar swith on or it's always necessary to insert the main jack to have the guitar running?

      You don't have to have anything plugged into the main output, but you have to manually turn the guitar on . . I hope this helps 🙂

    How easy is to to set up the action, and how is the action from the factory? Asking for a friend.

      The action is really good out of the factory, but for me the strings were a bit heavy. So, the guitar didn't need any action adjustment out of the box, but I changed the strings due to personal taste . . 🙂

    What gauge strings did you put on it after you got it? Did you have to adjust anything after as well? I find the action a little high, what are your thoughts? Thank you.

      When I did the review I used the provided strings to make the review as honest as possible. Afterwards I did lower the action but it wasn't that high, and changed the strings at the same time. All I can remember about the strings is that the new ones are anti rust coated, since I started doing reviews I've started changing the make of strings I use a lot so I can speak about them from a place of experience. I used to just use Elixir.
      Several people have mentioned the action, so I've done a video to help everyone out th-cam.com/video/QRSAQocR_rY/w-d-xo.html

    What type of amplification are you using with this guitar?

      For these tests I went straight through a mixing desk . .
